That tree was "pollarded" at one point, cut into stubs and then the branches restarting were cut off each fall. It does contain the top growth of the tree. At some point, like seedling trees, the branches weren't cut back and this gave the long growth you started with. Certainly, the roots and trunk of this "twig" is now causing foundation issues where it has been growing. You did a thoughtful job figuring how to do the basic work.
@Dodgystitch4 ай бұрын
I thought the tree looked like it had been cut before then started to regrow because it wasn't taken to a stump and killed, we've just had a eucalyptus tree removed and the stump was treated to kill it and eventually the roots otherwise it has potential to grow back and we don't that.

Its only a problem if you let it become one. I have a pomegranate tree that's been literally wrapped around a corner of our house for 50 years, hasn't caused a single problem. 😂
@rustydog12364 ай бұрын
@thisisnotthechannelyourelo407 a pomegranate is more of a bush.... I'll tell you what happened to me ... the toilet kept stopping up. I'd snake it multiple times and still stopped even though it was clear to the street. Finally tool the toilet off. The pomegranate bush roots had grown under the slab not lifting it or anything, and come up between the slab and sewer pipe and gone straight down in a perfect ring about a foot, just to get water. The snake just went straight past it smooth. So I cut them off and spread some root killer stuff from the plumbing store around the pipe . Put a new wax ring. Never grew back the 10 years more I live there and didn't hurt the tree none.

I'm no arborist but something that low to the ground I would just cut small sections from the top and just keep working my way back down. Also that's not the cable and telephone wires that's the electrical service main for the house - you can tell because it's supported by a metal cable that is attached to the service mast, and the electrical meter is right below it. You're lucky the wire wasn't weather worn with bare spots, or you would have found out the hard way.

In addition to my earlier comment, some of my neighbours followed my style because they were fed up with overhanging tree branches, dried leaves, tall grasses. They were very thankful that i footed the bill of the removal (trees, bushes, vines, etc) 10 ft from my property lining. Some of my neighbours commemted that my house and property was the neatest, cleanest, tidiest ever in the entire neighbourhood. They hired the same contractor to remove all the trees, bushes, vines from their entire yards. Their entire back yard, side yards AND 75% of their front yards have been cemented. The other 25% of front yard (closer to the sidewalk) - had new earth which they planted herbs. Brick wall was placed at the front yard so that the earth don't flow to the sidewalk. To prevent earth to flow from the 25% to the concrete cement, they had built a 1 ft concrete cement along the divider. They are so happy with their renovated yards. They saved time and money from no mowing. They just took care of the 25% area. To say the least, other neighbours are following their style. We had all agreed that the sidewalk shall have no grass. So we had that whole section totally cemented. No tree, no bush, no hedge, no vine, no earth at the sidewalk. Everyone is so happy.

There is word that is used when someone ignores a problem when it is small until it becomes big and dangerous. Procrastination. It's obvious that this yard suffers from severe procrastination. You should fix the problems before you get too old to do it yourself. I am pushing 70 now and have replaced my handicap ramp, back stairs and removed any trees that are too close to the house. I love to garden but it has gotten very difficult for me so I put in two small green houses with raised platforms so I don't have to get on the ground or dig. If your deck is rotten have it torn down before you hurt yourself. Put up proper stair and ramp rails now. Keep your yard and lawn free of big stones and silly decorations that make mowing and weed-wacking difficult. You have to prepare for the ravages of old age so you can enjoy what is is left of your life.

If he doesn’t plan on cutting it down soon, I highly recommend spraying the cut branches with Sucker Punch. It was recommended by Garden Answers and I wish I found it 10 years ago. At least that will stop the growth of new limbs. When I had my old Sweet Gum tree cut down, the four men used rock climbing equipment to reach the top. One climbed and cut, the others had ropes & pulleys to direct the limbs to the ground (they climbed the tree where the truck with bucket couldn’t reach). But, my limbs were are big as many trees. Once they got enough of the tree cut down, the guy stood in the bucket to cut but they still used ropes & pulley to guide the limbs. It certainly attracted many Sidewalk Superintendents. I took videos and pictures for two or three days. It was expensive, but no more limbs can fall on my roof or deck.
