40 years ago. I remember watching Barry Norman's Film 'XX as often as I could. Watching this clip now is like going back in time. The theme music, Barry's interesting inflections, and"and why not?". This was the golden age of TV and film for me. Thanks for posting

When I was a kid, Barry Norman's film series was essential viewing I tried every week to win a directors chair. I can't believe this was shown 38 years ago it only seems like yesterday , where did it all go? Thank you for bringing back such wonderful memories.

Seems like 5 minutes ago. I say that even though I was only 4 at the time.

I watched Barry Norman's film program every week back then, and really missed it when he left in 1998 or whenever it was to go to Sky. Jonathon Ross took over but it just wasn't the same. Thanks for this. Strangely though, I find now that I disagree with a lot of what Barry says on here. Hey, times change and so do points of view. Nice memory though.

The others really don't stand up to Norman. They simply don't possess his sharp observation, his relaxed sarcasm and his pure film brain. They're just not in the same league. Only Mark Kermode and Kim Newman can give us similar range and insight.

Norman was being way too churlish, the ending would have been ruined if it was filled with jokes, Trading Places is a recognised classic it's a critic's actual job to recognise that.
