What are your thoughts on Islam Makhachev after his performance at UFC 280? I already think he's the best pound-for-pound in the UFC, but he'll need to prove it against Alexander Volkanovski. He's truly the second coming of Khabib Nurmagomedov! Let me know your thoughts! 🏆🏆🏆

Let's be honest in recent times Charles has improved massively to the point he is a better version of a prime Tony... Solid stand up. Their approach is a hybrid of freestyle wrestling and Judo especially their takedown technique is very much influenced by Judo. They often go for the ouchi gari, harai goshi and even sasae. The grabbing is also very Judo centric. Judo emphasizes the top game as opposed to BJJ.

I know Cejudo loves to focus on wrestling but they are not wrestlers, they are complete grapplers. Yes they have wrestling skills and takedowns but they also master submissions, Judo throws, Sambo ground control, and different transitions/techniques that arent taught in wrestling. Plus they are Combat Sambo specialists which includes strikes on the ground (unlike wrestling or BJJ), and that means their ground skills are built around being able to strike on the ground along with control. Which is why they prioritize top position bc you can generate more powerful strikes from the top, even though Sambo also has a bottom game and submissions from bottom including leg locks (another thing that sets it apart from wrestling).

And mostly no ground moves. We cherish those leg catches and push/pull/rotate moves. All childhood games include wrestling as the main activity. And then we all go to modern wrestling gyms. And on streets we fight MMA style, no boxing or kicking only, we always grapple and beat after exhausting them)
