@@renakmans3521 It sends MIDI information to your DAW. You can adjust it to whichever MIDI channel you like but it's mainly used for volume and modulation so you can control the expression of an instrument to create a more lifelike digital performance.

Man, thank you for this! As someone who just scored their first short film, I really appreciate the home studio tour. This tour is also very high quality, like something I would see on GQ or something (not that they are the benchmark for quality haha).

What MacBook Pro would you recommend for film scoring? Is 16 gB of RAM enough for film scoring?
@micklynchcomposer6 күн бұрын
16 is probably good! Before getting my desktop I used a M1 Macbook Pro, though it had some issues with larger session files.

Thx for sharing. So given some of the realistic string libraries these days do you ever use those and bypass the real musicians?
@micklynchcomposer2 ай бұрын
On some projects with a tight schedule or low budget I’ve done soundtracks with exclusively sample instruments, especially early on! Nowadays I definitely favor real musicians and will seek out projects that allow for it!

what is the monitor you have for the piano roll called? really neat piece of equipment!
@micklynchcomposer3 ай бұрын
The one I have was supposed to be a touchscreen but doesn’t work very well, so I don’t know if I would recommend it- but if you’re looking for something similar just look into small scale portable/touchscreen monitors, most of them are designed to sit angled like that and fit studio spaces well.

Thank you!! The small angled monitor is just a cheap 15 inch touchscreen from amazon, the brand is Akntzcs- but I have to warn you the touchscreen functionality doesn’t work very well 😂

How did u change the color of logic?
@micklynchcomposer6 ай бұрын
If you dig through the logic preferences there’s dark & light mode for different parts of the UI! I made my track window white because I’m pretty colorblind and nearsighted so the white contrasts the colors better for me

I was just wondering how you managed to get to your position today and what route you took to become a composer; if it is alright I would greatly appreciate it if you could spare some time and reply to this with some background on your journey to where you are as a composer as I would love to know how I could get to your position one day, and what it takes to do that.
@micklynchcomposer8 ай бұрын
Absolutely! I began composing soundtrack-ish music in middle school as a fun hobby, mainly writing background music for me and my friends’ D&D games (Because I’m a dork, if you couldn’t tell from the video) and just spent a lot of time writing music as a hobby and slowly teaching myself production in garageband before moving to logic (Apple made both and they have very similar UIs) I also studied the work and orchestration/production techniques of some of my personal favorite composers, such as Danny Elfman and Joe Hisaishi. Once I felt really confident that I could try my hand at a professional scoring job, I wrote a handful of tracks that I felt showed my skillset and put them on youtube. I joined some local filmmaking groups on facebook and put myself out there as a beginning freelancer, and was fortunate enough to have some local filmmakers see that, listen to my demo tracks, and give me the chance to cut my teeth on some small-budget short films. Initially I worked for free or for very small flat rates, but over the last year I was able to build up a resume and start taking on higher-budget, longer, and more produced projects! I’m still very much learning and early on in my own journey, but the advice I’d have is to take it at your own pace, build up a good resume, and not be afraid to put yourself out there!
