Excited to share a showreel of my award-winning directing for scripted / drama / fiction.
I am an award-winning, friendly and experienced drama director, with 15+ years’ experience confidently creating fictional and dramatic content for film, TV and online.
I have a deep passion for both the technical and the creative, and enjoy nothing more than combining art and technology on film.
I have had my films screened at numerous festivals around the world and my work has been praised by director Neil Marshall (Game of Thrones, Westworld, Hannibal) and acclaimed producer David Parfitt (Shakespeare in Love, The Father, Much Ado About Nothing).
I am highly experienced in directing actors of all levels, as well as screen-testing, casting, rehearsing and blocking. I have directed prolific names including Guy Henry (Star Wars, Harry Potter, Holby City) and Craig Conway (Dog Soldiers, The Descent, Vera).
I’m a comfortable leader of cast and crew to create a fun and inspiring atmosphere on set, while remaining calm under pressure and delivering results under budget and on schedule.
I’m proficient at storyboarding, pre-viz, location scouting and all other forms of pre-production with crew.
I have also served as a writer, DP and / or editor on some previous projects. I have collaborated with, and have had my editing skills praised by Thelma Schoonmaker, editor to Martin Scorsese.
I have a strong understanding of second unit and special / visual effects filming techniques such as compositing, green screen and miniatures. I have had my visual effects work praised by Dennis Muren, Creative Director of Industrial Light & Magic.

'Having seen what you can do, I'm not sure this reel fully expresses your capabilities to its fullest. Have you considered trying more of a "commercial" or "teaser trailer" type format? The idea is, to create, in essence, a super quick short film. Something that carries a full narrative, with a beginning, middle, and end of an actual story. Being that your goal is for it to be a "Director's reel", it seems like telling a story with your reel would better get across your objective. As presented, your reel shows several disjointed headshots and snippets from your previous projects, without any context that a viewer would normally recognize. That is not to say that any of your work is bad. But, as a Director, your purpose is to guide the visuals and text, to tell a story as you envision it. And, your reel is your prime opportunity to show how well you can accomplish that goal. Also, it does NOT need to include footage from any previous project(s). It is fully acceptable for a reel to be an "on-spec", unique, personal project that was developed specifically for this reel. The whole point is to show how well you can tell a story. If your goal is to present your skills in multiple aspects of film-making, then don't be afraid to create multiple showreels, each exploring a different skill set. It is rare for any production to want a "Jack-of-all-trades" because most folk claiming that position rarely are good at any of them. Remember that having "the right tool, for the right job" is usually better than trying to use a "multitool" that, at best, can only barely do the job. While having a strong background in multiple aspects of filmmaking is a great thing, (it will make communication with the various film departments much easier and more efficient), you are there for only one job, getting your vision across. So, what is your vision, as the Director?

@steve you are a grateful tutor, I have ever experienced. You made me fall obsessed with cinematography since my High school but eh! I reached when gadgets are of a higher price more than my affordability! And being the fact that am a full orphan!!. So there were just hassles all times. But thanks for inspiring me.

Awesome showreel, Steve! The skill and creativity are off the charts! I’m really interested in the original Mr. Bean TV series intro from 1990-1995. Do you have any tips or tricks on how to recreate that specific style using After Effects? Would love to hear your insights! Thanks!
