5920 khz WBOH, went off the air Oct. 26th, 2009

It looks like that 5920 kHz WBOH Shortwave Christian Radio was based out of Newport, NC, and it apparently shut down in 2009. The tape machine in the back is a duplicator. I don't know the connection between the radio station and this place in WV, but my best guess is that someone may have recorded sermons and/or programs and then used the duplicator to make tapes to distribute. The church I grew up in used to do this for shut-ins waaay before the internet.

Interesting! So the big building on the right next to the "Leatherface" Shack (that was probably a Tool/ Repair Station for Mine Equipment) was likely the Elevator system to get people down in the Mine and that brought material up, the Conveyor Arm running from that to the other structure with more Scaffold Arms was where both the Coal and Waste Rock would have been Conveyed out to waiting Trucks and a Depository (just a big pile that gets offloaded over time). Looked like a fairly small but substantial operation back in the day.

The big white building definitely looks like it was the headframe (where the shaft would have been, it's probably capped.) The green metal structure next to it was either ventilation or a secondary shaft for material.

I did a quick search on WBOH - WBOH began broadcasting in 2002 and ceased broadcasting in 2010 (this puts a time of when that place became abandoned, at least 13 years ago.) WBOH was formally a shortwave radio station broadcasted from the Fundamental Broadcasting Network based from Newport, North Carolina. I'm not sure why those stack of decals are doing there, perhaps the coal mine was promoting the radio station? There's always questions about random objects just laying around in abandoned places.

I grew up in small Pentecostal/Assemblies of God churches. My Dad was in several southern Gospel bands and his favorite station was KJOJ, which was similar to this station, according to a quick Google check. This one hits me a little differently. Equal parts sad and interesting.

Looks like jesus Blessed them Good. That Equipment was very expensive. They had to do very good for themselves. They died of old age. The mine was all clear of trees when running, so they died 20-30 years ago. Then people came in broke in, ransacked everything, took what was worth selling. simple.
