It seems I need to hear this track every single day of my life now. And every time I hear it, I need to hear it again. Why is that? What am I looking for? It's saying something really important that I just don't understand. It scratches something that just won't stop itching. Those simple soaring chords, like towering walls of pealing bells, pulling my heart vertically through my throat and into the sky, it sounds like something I always knew was there, but only just discovered. Are we allowed to call this genius?

Google the term "shoegaze" and you'll come across a whole bunch of good bands. Just a few song examples include "Undertow" by Lush, "She Made Me" by Brian Jonestown Massacre, "Only Shallow" by My Bloody Valentine (all from the 1990s), and among newer and somewhat higher profile songs, "Lazy Eye" by Silversun Pickups, and "Midnight City" by M83.

Some things in life are just that beautiful, and this is a prime example! I purchased Hideout just for this song, but low and behold the rest of the release is as good as this gem. I pity the sheep that listen to Top 40, cause groups like this are few and far between unfortunately..

no worries, mate, I didn't take it as being snotty, it is a valid point. That said, a few of those 60's bands (Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, to name two) had members and managers and hangers-on who were greedy, litigious sharks, as cut-throat and ruthless as they make 'em today. It wasn't all peace and love and flowers down rifle barrels.

Shoegazing was originally a slag-off term. My partner [K.J. "Moose" McKillop], who was the guitarist in Moose, claims that it was originally leveled at his band. Apparently the journo was referring to the bank of effects pedals he had strewn across the stage that he had to keep staring at in order to operate. And then it just became a generic term for all those bands that had a big, sweeping, effects-laden sound, but all stood resolutely still on stage.

Often in Camden, and often moonlighting in each other's bands. The shatteringly loud, droning neo-psychedelia the band performed was dubbed shoegazing by the British press because the bandmembers stared at the stage while they performed. The term was often considered pejorative, especially by the English weekly music press who considered the movement as ineffectual, and it was disliked by many of the groups it purported to describe.
@MarkAziz336 жыл бұрын
shaddup.
@eric1012wi12 жыл бұрын
The name was coined in a review in Sounds of a concert by the newly-formed Moose in which singer Russell Yates read lyrics taped to the floor throughout the gig.[4] The term was picked up by the NME, who used it as a reference to the tendency of the bands' guitarists to stare at their feet-or their effects pedals; seemingly deep in concentration, while playing. Melody Maker preferred the more staid term The Scene That Celebrates Itself.

@1717km You mean you think it's a joke, or you don't know where the term comes from? If the latter: It's droning, dirgy, atmospheric, "look down at your shoes while you're playing your instrument" music.
