Kid would have thrown 200 yards and 2 TDs in first half if it wasn’t for penalties. That’s not a 7/10. That’s a 9 on a bad team. Too many drops as well.

On that last big play that was called back due to penalty - it wasn't called back due to holding, it was due to "illegal formation" because the tackle was lined up slightly too far behind the guard. It really did not impact the play at all, it's not like one of those big runs where a guy was holding and that's the only reason that the big run happened. In reality this play really happened and this pretty much totally unrelated penalty just canceled it. So big props to Maye IMO

One thing I wish you covered is his habit to pump before he throws. He did it a few times last night and I think the pats really need to coach that out of him bc I could see it leading to future fumbles or mistiming on routes. Pats fan, think the world of Maye, and wanna see him be the best QB in the league.

I agree with what you’re saying, and I’m a huge patriots fan. I have said the same thing. What puts my mind at ease is he’s only 21 right now. When he’s 24 and then 25 and then going into his prime it’s scary to think how good he will be. The patriots and other teams Never had to plan for a patriots quarterback who could run and still be extremely accurate. They have not had that I don’t think ever since Doug Flutie maybe lol. I think will end up being one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Definitely the best one in this draft once he gets going for real.

In 2024, there are only 3 starting Qbs in the NFL that could achieve the same result with that type of interior scramble (2:00). In the commanders game, we observed 8 plays by Maye, that Mac Jones could never think of making. Jones would fare far worse behind the patriots inept offensive line. The one thing the Patriots got right in the draft, was holding the #3 and selecting Maye. His drop back has already shown improvement, and he has dispelled naysayers who suggested he would be inconsistent when delivering balls more than 10 yards down field. 1. The pup will be the pick of the litter in 3 years. Mark my words. 2. The offensive line is terrible. It looked that way on paper and on the field against Commanders third string linemen. 3. Brissett was brought in to be the starter and pinata, and thats the real reason maye will not be the starter. 4. I expect the Patriots to sign two additional linemen as they become available during team cutdowns. 5. Recently signed Matt Landers already appears to be better than 3/4 of the Pats WR core. Landers is a guy who went undrafted, was cut by 2 NFL and 2 CFL teams. Its an indication of the mediocrity of the pats WR core. Just because you hear their names alot in preseason, doesnt mean they are good. 5. All the WR selections in 2024 draft were reaches at their selective slot. Polk is the only one that appears to have any potential to be an NFL starter. 6. There is a reason why Chukwuma Okorafor was a midseason cut in Pittsburg and why he readily signed with NE. He also lacks punch. A backup at best, on any other roster. 7. You cant coach this O-line into becoming a better unit. On paper it appears worse than the 2007 Dolphins and 2002 Texans units. At least those teams had legitimate left tackles (Chester Pitts). With the departure of Trent Brown, Patriots 2024 have no bonafide tackles.

Drake was top QB in the draft at handling the rush. The worse was Caleb followed by Jayden Daniels. That’s why they will be busts. The other 3 are solid ie JJ, Penix, and Nix.
@rayr43202 ай бұрын
@@Craighomoffman I wouldnt say Caleb is worse, he is just a little premature in going off script during pocket pressure. If he keeps a positive attitude he has all the qualities of a top flight Qb. Daniels is more concerning because he has a turbo play style. That is concerning considering he already has a large bursa on the elbow. He throws darts sometimes a little more touch makes WR job easier. Maye definitely played behind a weaker collegiate line, which can be viewed as a positive. He is also 2 years younger than Daniels and I was happy he was the third Qb selected.

@philibusters232 ай бұрын
The rule is that every formation must have at least 7 guys lined up on the line of scrimmage (within 1 yard of the ball). You can have more than 7 (you can have up to 9), but you cannot have less than 7. If you have less than 7 its an illegal formation. If you are lined up on the line of scrimmage, I think you can be no further back than 1 yard off the line of scrimmage (the ball). Tackles and WR occasionally get called for this. For tackles, lining up more than 1 yard behind the line of scrimmage it allows the to set a wider edge without oversetting and making themselves vulnerable to a counter inside move and for WR's it makes it all but impossible for the corner to press them. The call was the tackle was more than 1 yard behind the line of scrimmage when the ball was set and that the Patriots only had six men on the line of scrimmage. The same player had been called for the same penalty early in the game. Later in teh broadcast they said the first time it happens the refs warn the player, and thereafter it is a penalty. So that player had made the same mistake at least 3 times.
@youtubeconnollyfamily2 ай бұрын
Also, you were wrong about when he did that side arm throw, it did not get brought back because of a holding penalty. It got brought back because of an illegal formation for like the 100th time by that same lineman lol. so that penalty had no effect on that throw whatsoever. It was not a hold. the lineman lined up illegally

@Craighomoffman2 ай бұрын
As a Commanders fan I comp Drake Maye as a more polished Ben Roethlinsberger. Drake has HOF and Super Bowl written all over. Caleb will have a Baker Mayfield up/down career. He won’t get a 2nd contract with the Bears. He’s not solely to blame. Jayden Daniels has the worst arm in the league. Terrible pocket presence. A sure bust. Bo could survive and JJ McArthy will need time. Although JJ has an elite arm he’s smaller and simply very young. Boom/ bust. Penix is in a great situation but I don’t like his organization. Cousins as his mentor is ideal.
