The fact is that the last 25 years' worth of QB data is massively skewed by Tom Brady's constant winning while being paid little by comparison. We need to stop saying things like, "Over the last 20 years, only a couple of top paid QBs won the Superbowl, and that's because it's Mahomes". This is a different era with way more money being spent. Cousins' contract is comparable to Stafford and he won a Superbowl. Stop using Tom Brady era stats to argue what's the norm.

Not quite as good as that LA defense at least in the pass rush ability but ATL defense was top 10 last year so not god awful like they were in the past. And they will most likely be drafting pass rush at the 8th pick as well as getting a corner too. Also, we almost won the division last year with trash tier QB play so Kirk just needs to be average and we win many more games. You can bet he's gonna study / watch film on what his receivers do best to increase that chemistry with them and start throwing to them as soon as he can.

Vikings made huge mistake letting Cousins walk. Cousins is the all-time leading QB in Vikings history for QB Rating (101), Comp% (67.93%), Yards/Game (264.4), TD% (5.6%), Int% (1.8%). He is top of the list in all of these categories of all Vikings QBs including Brett Favre, Daunte Culpepper, and Fran Tarkenton. Some will say, "Well he did not win games". Those people don't know what they are talking about. The top all time winning % QB for the Vikings is Brett Favre, and he only beats Cousins by 1 game, and if you look at just QB who were with the team longer than two years, Cousins is easily the top all time winning% QB for the Vikings period. He will definitely be in the Vikings Hall of Fame. Playoffs? Remember - football is a team sport. He has never had a good offensive line and has only had a good defense once (2018) in his career, and he as only had the same play caller two years in a row once (2023) in his career. What would be a good average QB rating for the playoffs? Well, with a playoff average QB rating of 100, Cousins outperforms Joe Burrow, Jalen Hurts, Justin Herbert, Lamar Jackson, Kyle Murray, and Deshaun Jackson. i guess it takes an entire team to win a playoff game!

Well said!! i was pretty bummed about it but it sounds like he is going into a great situation....coaches....o-line .....defense....a blocking TE. They just needed a QB who can sling the ball accurately. You forgot Zimmer. I feel like the Vikings failed Kirk. The o-line and defense plus #1 incompetent coaching by Zimmer who instead of helping his quarterback and meeting with him weekly, #2 openly disliked him, #3 trashed him in meetings, #4 fired his OC every year AND #5 didn’t surround him with talent to consistently win (like every other successful team does for their quarterback). Ah…what could have been. Now we will never know. Until the Vikings realize that long term continuity at the QB position (for more than six seasons) is the key to success, they will never win a Super Bowl. Kirk is the only QB besides Tarkenton to start more that 5 seasons....and that was 44 years ago. I'm a Vikings fan, and Cousins performed well, particularly over 22/23 and the little bit he played in '23. Not too disappointed in him having left though because I think someone younger and a bit more mobile will be better for us/Jefferson in the long run

I don't understand why people think that Cousins most recent deal was some magical feat of negotiation by his agent. Over 6 seasons with the Vikings: 3 pro bowls, 200 TD, 23,000 passing yards and only 55 INT. And this is all while having the worst defense and worst offensive line in football. You can't really play the position better than that. It was an easy sell for his agent.

His career passer rating is 98.2. which is the 8th highest passer rating in NFL history…in NFL history. He’s 5th all-time in completion percentage. His passing yards per game also ranks 10th all-time in the history of the NFL. In the 2023 season through three weeks, he was on pace to throw for 6000 yards, 51 TDs, and 9 INTs. Through Week 8 [the last week he played], Kirk was tied for 1st in touchdowns, 1st in pass attempts, 1st in pass completions, 2nd in passing yards, 3rd in QB rating, and 5th in completion percentage. At the end of season, he was still 2nd in QB rating and 3rd in completion%. And.....throws 4000+ yards and 30+ TDs every season like clockwork. In 2021 per PFF, Kirk was the league’s second-best quarterback while surrounded by the fourth-worst pass-blocking line. He also throws darts while he is getting hit.

Sadly this is true I think Kirk is a best option for the office in Atlanta. As in they will all lose their jobs at the rate they were going with losing records since 2018. He is one of the most accurate quarterbacks and is one of the best deep ball passers in the league, is clutch, can make all of the throws and throws his receivers open. If given time (actual pass protection), he can carve up any defense (ex. beat the 49ers, a Super Bowl team).

Atlanta, you paid high money for a good quarterback that has a hard time getting over the hump. I liked him and had great hope for him. He played great against some fair teams but had problems against good teams. I think his success in last few years was more because of Kevin O'Connell. Kirk needs couching. If he doesn't get it he will be average. I am happy how cousins got the money he did. I really can't believe he got that, but i am happy for him. He will be gone in 2 years.

@@jonb5945 it does but when the last play you have in a playoff game is 4th and 15, Cousins throws a 5 yard pass to his tight end who immediately gets tackled. Game over. That was Cousins last playoff game. The defense definitely didn’t do their job but that’s when the great quarterbacks like Brady and Mahomes overcome that by throwing the 15 yard pass to their best receiver and not taking the easy dump off. Vikings fans are ready to move on from him.

All the receivers but Hockenson had deep routes that were too long in developing and the left guard did not stop the defensive tackle AT ALL. Kirk had no time to throw and was about to be sacked. That last playoff game shouldn’t have come down to 4th and 8. The Vikings lost because of their defense (reminder… they allowed 31 points and 431 yards to a Giants team that was far from explosive).

Kirk led the Vikings to beat the 49ers and is pretty good against the Lions, too. Had Kirk not gotten hurt, the Lions and Packers wouldn't have even been in the playoffs. Kirk didn’t play for half of a season and STILL ended up with a better QBR (63.3) than Goff (60.2).
