Cardinals fan here, looks like we have a real coaching staff. Team played hard all year despite a clear lack of talent/experience and no/fresh off injury Murray. GM looks good too, every picked rookie has started at least a game this year. Now we only need a guard, a tackle, two WRs, a blocking TE, a NT, a couple DLs, a pass rusher, two corners & maybe a LB. Need one more year to be truly competitive if everything goes well IMHO, but it's promising

@@syminite1 Even Kingbury beat Shanahan, and he turned out to be a OC trying to be a HC. Gannon had the Cardinals competitive without talent. If Shanahan was a messiah, he wold have a couple SB trophies by now, instead of an asterisk (28-3) and loss to Kansas City in a game they lead throughout.

Let's look at their pass defense. And in the NFL, as we all know, has become a passing league, and, therefore, pass coverage matters the most. Pass coverage ratings against coverage: James Bradberry 116.7 Darius Slay 80.2 Reed Blankenship 103.4 Kevin Bayard 101.1 Sydney Brown 116.5 Justin Evans 110.4 Terrell Edmunds 106.2 There isn't a DB on the field that can cover except Slay and he's barely above average. Their linebackers can't cover either. The Eagles defense is trash. And now their pass rush isn't as good as last year, they're getting exposed game-after-game-after-game.

That's not when the DBs fault though. No DB can cover for the full extent of the game when left on islands. The DC, both Sean and now Patricia, haven't put them in a position to win all season. They have them play about 12 yards deep every snap to begin with, and then they continuously put their pass rushers in coverage so there's no pressure. A QB that has all the time to stand in the pocket is going to carve up any secondary, especially when they play deep to begin with for some damn reason. Part of the reason why the middle is always open

Great analysis, agreed. Playcalling on both sides of the ball is sloppy and not intelligent. Eagles looking at a bad run in the playoffs because of the coaching and lack of fundamental skill by defensive players

It's top down. They have some talent, but bad defensive coaching, play calling, and coordination lead to bad players. You can coach how to tackle. They also make the same defensive plays over and over. Arizona offense adjusted after half time, not the Eagles defense.

The players in coverage don't follow any set of rules ever. They catch and grab WRs, they are always flat footed. Someone has to re-teach them how to play coverage as well as tackling. The Seahawks made a whole clinic about how to tackle back during the Legion of Boom, and every team at every level watched it. Still, modern players just don't know how to tackle for some reason, especially the Eagles. I give exception to Blankenship because he saved many runs from being TDs and is always coming down from 15 yards to a one on one is the hardest tackle to make.

One more comment, the defensive line of the eagles is designed to rush the passer. They try to pick-up the run on the go, but they're not built to take on the run. This this is like the old Floyd Peter's defenses in the 1970s through 1990s. They were always great in the pass rush, weak against the run. Peters was an assistant coach for various teams including the Vikings from 1986 to 1990 where his defenses ranked number 1 in the NFL in '88 and '89 (71 sacks in '89, one short of an NFL record),

The Eagles defense has been trash, but they really haven't been fully healthy or cohesive all season. There's been a ton of flux with injuries and new additions. They will likely get Darius Slay and Zach Cunningham back for the playoffs. Avonte Maddox was bad against Arizona, but that was his first game in months. Not every team has a QB that can escape the rush like Kyler Murray, so I expect the pass rush will look better. There's still a chance they can pull this together. It's not looking great though

Main problem with the Eagles is that capitalism got in the way of teamwork. They had a good team, and couldn't keep it together because making money is more important than winning. This is true all across our society. This is why we fight wars and lose them. This is why East hates West hates South hates North.
