Not saying that the pass pro was great but it was a bad matchup in general because of that which is why it was shocking that the books had the Niners as favorites for this SB. I personally felt from the outset that SF matched up very poorly against both KC/Baltimore because of the pass rush/QB's those teams have and whoever won the AFC championship basically bagged up the whole thing.

I watched purdy in the NFC championship and i was impressed with how he was able to scramble multiple times in desperate situations and pick up multiple massive 1st downs during a huge comeback. I also realized at that point that the Cheifs defense were going to absolutely destroy him if he was going to try the same thing in the Superbowl. The Chiefs got to the superbowl by going through the top 2 dual threat QBs in the game with Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. If Allen and Lamar couldn't beat the KC defense with their legs, there was no way Purdy was going to.

Actually, I would consider Mahomes the best dual threat QB in the game. He is not as good a runner as Jackson, or as powerful as Allen, but his scrambling and designed runs were a big part of the Chiefs pulling the game out in the clutch. @markb3786 I disagree. He had 80 yards rushing and 80 yards receiving and a touchdown. 160 total yards and a touchdown is not ineffective. I will never agree with throwing on 9 downs in a row with the best running back in the league in your backfield. Although he only averaged 3.6 yards per carry, he always has the ability to break a run and take it to the house on every carry. I feel like if Shanahan would’ve handed the ball off on any of those 3 drives they would’ve picked up at least a couple first downs maybe more. I also feel like Shanahan could’ve disguised the run plays a little better and not given the Chiefs an opportunity to load the box against the run. I don’t think Spags is some defensive genius more like Shanahan tries to get too cute on offense and HE cost the Niners the win. The defense gave the Niners every opportunity to take this game but the Niners didn’t capitalize on offense and that’s largely due to Shanahan’s atrocious play calling.
