I'm kind of surprised Mat didn't make the connection between the 5th kids STRIPED shirt and the puppets arms! Don't know if that'll be anything and I'm not veteran enough in the lore to speculate further, but Mat saying that they didn't share ANY characteristic with one of the animatronics felt a little odd when the colouring and pattern is almost identical to the puppets arms.

I see where you're coming from but it would feel a little odd to me. The group of the 5 missing children from the incident are usually considered those who haunted Bonny, Chica, Foxy, Freddy, and Golden Freddy (as evidenced by FNAF 3 endscreen), whereas the Puppet, AKA Charlotte, was kind of a separate thing. Which considering them as being a totally separate figure makes sense, considering their different narrative role (being the 'gift/life-giver' after all). So just showing the kid who would become the Puppet on the same playing field and occupying the same role, just kinda standing there, with the other missing children, is kind of odd stylistically... like they should have some special place at least. Also not that it definitely matters since it's an adaptation, but Charlotte was not a boy and the kid in this is clearly a boy- only mentioning it since the other characters seem to follow the same rough character types. That being said in your favor, the FNAF 6 tombstones end screen does show Charlotte being included in the same screen as the 5 missing children. So that adds to your point potentially. Also worth considering is the popular theory in the games that Golden Freddy is possessed by two spirits, Cassidy (the 5th missing child) & the Crying Child (Mike's brother)... I don't think they're gonna go with that in the movie but it would highlight how even in the games potentially, that Cassidy, and thus Golden Freddy, is more separate from the other missing children, making it easier to imagine the Puppet being more closely aligned to them. One final thing in your favor, is in the trailer, there is a specific few frames showing that striped child running alone. Could this mean they are special, or is it just randomly one of the kids running?

@@Bawhoppen yes but if you take into account matpat's other theories--mainly that the puppet was the first child killed, and thus was there the whole time and ignoring the chica theory where she's the first--then it would make sense that the child would be the puppet. However I've seen another theory in the comments stating that the one in the front could be freddy and the golden tophat wearing one could be golden freddy, so we also have to take that into account.

I love the idea of video game movies just setting up a different universe that's still based on the franchise rather than basing the movie in the same universe from the established lore. Sonic did it, Mario did it, and now FNAF did. This isn't really game changing but it's a neat detail I wanted to point out.

I have always had this theory, so I’ll share it here since the cupcake is brought up. I think the cupcake is Susie’s dog. Hear me out. Chica’s the only character that has a smaller animatronic with them, and Susie is the only one we know the way Afton lured her to her death, claiming her dog is still alive, and is with him. A lot of people think the dog is Mangle, as it acts a lot more animalistic. However, the animatronic has literally been ripped apart constantly, and is build like an animal, so it physically can’t attack like person, or like the other animatronics. As for the movie, the cupcake literally jumps on the dudes face. It acts a lot like a guard dog. Unable to protect her when they were alive, but still trying to protect her now as animatronics. I personally believe this theory. It’s so small, it probably doesn’t impact the lore much, if at all, but it makes a lot of sense, and helps draw similarities from Susie to Chica. Chica and her cupcake - Susie and her dog, it lines up really well. Thought it’d bring it up here.

I think it's ridiculous how so many people are overlooking the fact that the kid with the hat in the dream sequence is wearing yellow. And knowing what I know now about the brother, he also has dark hair that fits with Garrett. The kid in the hat is the furthest back, the most detatched and is the one the most covered by Mike, that's Golden Freddy. The kid in the very front, the frontrunner wearing brown is Freddy Fazbear. For some reason I haven't seen a single person saying this, but I caught it on my very first viewing of the trailer. Anyway, my other theory was that we're gonna have an Empire Strikes Back moment and reveal that William Afton is Mike's real father. I always found it ridiculous that in the case of Clara Afton leaving, that she wouldn't get custody of the kids. "Mike;s Father" could very well be a step-father and we just don't know about it.

The thing is, since so much of the story has already been told, the movie will probably have a much more engaging tale to follow than the first and second games. Yeah, and I'm just putting my hail mary wish here for the ending. I'm hoping abby becomes baby, sure, but I also really hope Mike also gets fatally injured in some way but pulls the whole "I should be dead, but I'm not," I doubt it will happen, but if it does, :D. They aren't going the same direction as in the games so they could make some excuse similar, I just think Mike being like this conscious rotting corpse out to make amends is still such a cool idea. Again, ain't no way that happens, just a wish.

Having now seen the film ( I live in the UK), I do think there was an element of exaggeration in Blum's statement lol It's definitely first and foremost a love letter to the fans, and everyone who cares about FNAF NEEDS to go and see it and have a fun time! But they're absolutely using this as a chance to tell the stories in a way that will translate easier to film with a hope of expanding the audience

I watched the movie with my parents and they enjoyed it and I barely had to explain anything to them. There are plenty of things in the movies that only fans would understand but without being a fan I still think it’s a fine movie. You understand what happened to the kids, who Vanessa and William are, and the basic premise on what the establishment even is. I didn’t think they’d go super deep on lore or else it would not have been enjoyable for other people but they really did a good job going into the lore a bit but not too much to scare of people that don’t know the franchise.

Fun fact Universal Studios Halloween horror nights has a Blum House museum this year, and there they show a special trailer of the movie at a show and they give some insider information about the film, they told us that the movie is going to cover the first three games in the franchise!

Sister Location could be covered in the next movie, alongside perhaps the toy animatronics in either the next or a later film since they didn't show up here..

In Matpat's terms of what an "OG" player is, he probably means a player/fan since 2014 (The beginning of the franchise.) If you've played FNaF 1 during it's release (2014) and have been hooked on the franchise until now, then your an OG. If you got into the franchise recently (like a year ago, for example) for any reason, even FNaF 1, than I'd say you're new. It just depends on when you got hooked on the franchise.@@JudeWasHere17

I’m a huge fan of SB, and it was suuuuper confusing but watching MatPat piece everything together again each time really ties a bow on my love for the franchise every single time. And sure it’s nice to see a variety of ages sharing their love for the franchise. Making theories, fan games, art, and much more. I personally just miss those simpler times probably up to fnaf 4 or even the latest SL. Nonetheless I still enjoy the story and the theories but not much outside of that now.

Hi hello, I am one of these fans, I guess. Never intend on playing the games just adore the complex lore that horror video games employ. I’m caught up for the most part, was just as excited for the release of ruin as everyone else, at that point I had been tracking FNAF lore for a year and a half. Security Breach was such an intriguing game design and modern take on old concepts I still think it is the perfect direction the franchise could have taken, especially now with Ruin. The lore got so much more complex very quickly and it feels like the game is just as alive as it was in the early days when I remember friends playing it at school. Glad to be on this train, wish I could play the Ruin DLC without getting scared because it just looks so cool.

Even if that's not the way it goes in the movie it's possible that's what happened in the game. Matt says we've never seen the cupcake move on its own before but that's not entirely true, it's happened twice. Sure both times it's in a dream like state, nightmares in FNAF 4 and chemical induced hallucination in Help Wanted, but the fact that it's happened twice is significant. Not to mention BonBon in sister location who can move independently of FT Freddy. Of course neither animatronic is possessed in the same way Chica is but the idea is the same.

Those two scenes can be completely unrelated and Abby sinking in the ball pit could just be her during her exploration of the pizzeria before he animatronics spring to life, for all we know.
