I like the Don Rosa take the best. In the Don Rosa comics it's revealed that every coin, bill, and whatever else is in the bin represents a precious memory to him. He can pick up anything in the bin and remember exactly when and how he earned it and there's always some big adventure story attached to even the most innocuous coin. When he looks out at his bin he doesn't actually see money, he sees the life he's lived.

If the bin is just full of gold, there must be some point where the sheer weight of the top levels of gold malformed the gold below it, pushing out the air voids and becoming denser. I remember that in one episode in ducktales 2017 season 2, flintheart actually had more money than scrooge. Since flintheart and scrooge made a bet, that by a deadline, whoever had more money took the others wealth. So flintheart gained scrooges money, basically doubling it, but then louie tricked flintheart into giving the money to him, so louie became the richest duck in the world, making scrooge and flintheart basically broke. After dealing with the curse, louie eventually gave scrooge back the money. so in short, scrooge doubled the amount of money he has.
