yo quick tip for scanning! if you want to avoid newton rings and dont have ANR glass, you can flip the negative upside down so the bent side is going up and not down against the scanner glass, and then when you get the scan into lightroom, just flip it horizontally so it isnt backwards. had some issues with bent negatives and this seems to help a lot. definitely best to get the glass, but the method works too. great video though!

My problem is that film recipe did not match in the slightest. To match you have to throw on a diffusion filter and make sure that your greens lean in. Otherwise just like we saw it's a blue mess.

The limiting rules reveal why digital is so much better for the average shooter. The expense of film alone is a huge barrier to someone who wants to learn by shooting a lot.

yup digital is better because that's the point of digital imo: to be very flexible. you can make digital look like film very easily but the other way around will cost you a lot

I wonder why the jpeg limitation? I would figure out the best practical scanner resolution and limit the digital camera to that resolution in raw. Then I would scan and shoot raw for a better comparison for post shoot workflows.

Digital raw processing = film development. If you want to use JPG 'straight out of the camera' then use the film ''straight out of the camera'. Don't develop or scan the film and see how the compare works.

To be fair, the Cinestill 800T recipe for Fuji is the worst emulation you can try using.It looks nothing like Cinestill 800T nor it looks any good on its own,so definitely Fuji GFX was on a huge disadvantage in this one. In generl recipes don't work as good as people make them to sound, I feel like the people that are into them are people that don't shoot film to begin with or are shooting every now and then,otherwise it doesn't make any sense how people are still using them.

I really want to return to film photography . Unfortunately film photography seems to have nearly been discarded in India ,in all of the country there are just 3-4 shops selling and developing films that too at exorbitant prices

If you can get your hands on some cheap bnw film, developing is super easy with a dev tank kit and some Cinestill DF96 monobath.

i feel like limiting the fuji to basically shoot the same way as the bronica effectively makes this test irrelevant? like wouldnt the whole point of comparing them be to look at how the pros/cons of both mediums weigh up? the film might be less convenient to work with, but its so hard to beat the filmic image quality. conversely, the fuji might be way more convenient to use but does that ease-of-use offset the fact that its still a digital image for someone who is used to the analog work flow? edit after watching the video: i think the fuji would have benefitted greatly from josh being able to review photos and mess with settings. i did not like any of the exterior shots

While a really cool video, not sure this did much justice to the Fuji. That recipe you're using isn't even designed around the GFX sensor, which is quite different to the X-Trans sensor.

I shoot digital cause it's cheap and convenient. I won't ever shoot film. That said, film tones are just bomb!

The film or sensor only captures (or doesn't capture) the light. Shoot raw and post-process.

Hey, so as a photographer, as a member of the WW photography community I really wish that after 10 years of my participation in this culture I would stop seeing the videos like this. Why? Because it continues to build the drift among the tools, emphasis on word TOOLS, which we as photographers use. Different kinds of mediums are used for different things, they have their own pros and con, different possibilities and lastly DIFFERENT WORKFLOWS. It is completely dumb idea to compare them with "limitations". WHY? If only you had gone with at least one of them to the fullest of their potential.......... shoot the film and then just scan it? What a freaking waist of the material. Shoot with digital rig worth thousand dollars for only jpegs if it's not even build for it? Daaaaamn man 🙈the context of selling point of the gear is soooo of the mark.
