My personal biggest issue is - when shooting digital I shoot WAY more shots, and these days I just don’t have time to review 300 or so shots, make selects and then grade the selects. I just over shoot w digital. So I’ll just shoot 2 rolls of 35mm in the same time and enjoy being there more, bc I spend less time behind the camera.

Film photography feels like a trip down memory lane, takes me back to the simple joys of my childhood. Waiting for the prints to develop and then heading to the photo shop to pick them up was always exciting. Flipping through all the photos, and reliving each memory. Those were the good old days.

I used to spend most of the time fiddling digital images instead of thinking about taking photos. Film makes you think before taking photos. You also start to think what you want to do with your photography, like creating a larger body of work.

I shoot micro 4/3, APS-C, and full-frame digital still images and video images. I also shoot 35mm, medium format, and large format still images on film. Love them both; love them all.

Thank you! You laid out the pure benefits and drawbacks of both types of cams and made it easy to understand that it comes down to what you want out of it and how much you’re willing to put in to photography and that both are great options. All that said, I am going to pick up a digital camera first before making the jump to film, thank you for the helpful video and examples!

Some good points and I think you balance the two very well. I've just sold most of my film kit to move over to Fujifilm as my primary tool - I was developing and scanning all of my photos at home but this limited me to B&W with the stupid colour film prices at the moment. I think at the end of the day its whatever gets you out and taking photos that makes the big difference - for me it was film initially and now its Fuji, but I'll still be using it as a side medium as its so much fun to use!

Thanks so much! You make a really great point though, it really is whatever gets you out taking photos. But definitely if you have access to both, even occasionally I think it’s great to experiment!

I spent years with film(was all there was). I feel if I had started with digital I wouldn't have learned as much about aperture/ss/iso and capturing the shot I want and not relying on using an editor to fix my errors. Now I only use digital and I find that I tend to know exactly where to set most shots for a great result without much thought or letting the camera make choices for me.

Great video! It explains on a direct and clear manner the advantages and disadvantages of both mediums. The title is a little misleading, because none is BETTER than the other, just different. I stopped shooting film when I got my first digital camera, and recently, especially after watching a number if inspired videos about the subject, got the desire to try it again. Even bought a Canon EOS Elan, a camera I owned before but lost. I completely agree with the conclusion: why not try both? I won't shoot with film on a vacation, when time is pressing and there is limited time to be on each place. But on a quieter time, film has more of an artistic approach, that has to be enjoyed.

Digital Photography ! I did analog film photography for several decades both as a professional commercial photographer and a teacher in photography. Digital Photography is much more fun and it is less polluting than analog film.

16 Bit hi res FLAC streaming services with 50+ million songs are far better than Vinyl records too....But those streaming services suck compared to the experience of playing a Vinyl record with a glass or two.

I just like the art of film photography, digital is okay but the cameras are way to complicated to many settings, having said that both film and digital have their place, but there's nothing like picking up an old SLR from the 70ies and just having fun. Having my own darkroom helps.

I might have found a solution in shooting digital to be more like the film experience. A Leica MD262, the one without a screen, was just what makes a digital camera seem like a film camera. I also use a Nikon F2 but the cost of film, development, premium scans, flash drives and shipping cost me over $100 a roll, keeps me using the MD much more...!

Digital makes it easy and sharp where as film you have to get it right when you click the shutter.

Mostly digital for me, the camera is just a tool. What you're photographing is more important than what it's photographed with. Use what works for you.

Hi new sub to your channel :). So film photography is a big hobby for me. But as you mentioned the cost of the film and having it processed and even buying a good working camera was not cheap. Now before I can really complain about the cost I shoot on a Fujifilm GFX system in my digital side.. So I can not really complain too much about the film camera cost as my digital setup was not cheap.. But even so most of the time I use modern lenses on my GFX system I do still use manual lenses on the camera system. I think this is due to the fact I really like the slower paced process just like I do with vintage film cameras.. My Digital setup I turn dials and set everything up manually :). Pretty much all of my film cameras I have are really old fully mechanical .. I do have a few that are a little more modern lol.. But the fun ones that I use each season are pretty much all fully manual vintage cameras :).. The entire hobby from the start to where I am now has grown into a HUGE hobby lol.. I found out quickly that there was not many repair techs around anymore for the older cameras so I had to learn how to service them myself. I now own all the gear needed to service, Repair and calibrate my older vintage film machines.. But I also develop my film and scan the negatives and edit the scans myself .. It is a slow process but a rewarding one when you end up with great photos from cameras that many people would have threw into the trash bin.. Restoring these old historic cameras and then using them to create new images to share with others is a great feeling .. I think everyone that loves photography should at least own one or two manual type film cameras and shoot a roll or two each year and you will be surprised at what you will learn from it :).

Having shot film B/W EPR Hasselblad 120 and TRX 400 135 Nikon F often pushed to 1000 Acufine that I did all the processing myself . Educated 1961-1971 with 2 years at Los Angeles Trade Technical. I worked at prime of B/W 35 mm and the introduction of EPR almost exclusively 120 for 4 color magazine covers fashion editorial and advertising.. To say I loved it is of course a gross understatement. I could share the subilties of hand done dip and dunk with Cykora 3 custom printing. TRY-X 120. Shot almost exclusively using the magnificent Hasselblad ELM. Five seasons each year trending styles and national covers. Able to participate in the west coast Kodachrome revival through the wonderful work of AI Hollywood lab. Tired of tooting my own horn. I would be more than willing to share my decades of professional photography. If you want insight the. most basic digital work L'll share my iPhone cloud portforirol. Shalom.
