What is scary about this premise is that, since everyone is infected, you can never get rid of it. Even if you smashed the head of the last walker in, it's enough to have one person die of a heart attack unsupervised to get it going again.

Unless some people develop an immunity then eventually the zombie virus will die and leave a human population resistant to it. Evolution at work.
@khymaaren4 жыл бұрын
@@mogznwaz If it was a scientifically possible situation, I guess you are right. Case in point: against every virus that ever infected humans, there are those, however small in number, that are naturally immune. At least as far as I know. But, if it is so in this case, we should have seen examples of that in the show by now. And a key factor that differentiates this zombie-virus from real viruses is that it doesn't cause symptoms and only affects the body when the body is dead and incapable of producing antibodies anymore. But, since this scenario is based more in fantasy than in science, a heavy coat of plot-armour will take care of maintaining a high level of threat.
@Edward-Not-Elric4 жыл бұрын
My main question is, does the virus continue to infect people or was it a wave of infection? For instance, if someone gives birth 5 years later, is the baby infected because of the mother? Is the baby infected because of the air? Is it even infected at all? I really hope the writer gives away the origin of the virus before he croaks.
@khymaaren4 жыл бұрын
@@Edward-Not-Elric I'm guessing that the origin of the virus will remain a mystery. At least, I hope so. I think we have come a long way by now for it to matter. I assume that babies born after the initial wave of infection are just as much subjects to the virus as anyone. The wave subsided only because there was no-one left to infect.
@ChoJun694 жыл бұрын
@@Edward-Not-Elric Zombies are kind of a background thing in both the show and comics(afaik) and it's more about surviving the real monsters that lived before the "apocalypse" and are still there adapting to the new world. IMHO author kind of solidified the zombie "problem" in the show with the CDC and Dr. Jenner on "how everyone is already infected" and kind of there's' that, so i highly doubt if author gonna bother with the virus anymore, unless there's some mutation years later that changes the people born after the apocalypse(judith, other kids).

There are real world viruses that very nearly everyone carries. Nearly everyone has herpes. No one cares since it has evolved to inflict nearly no symptoms. The new scary viruses are the un-evolved. HIV is probably not even 100 years old. Ebola is probably newer still. Killing a host quickly with horrific symptoms leads to rapid eradication. Wildfire would need to be airborne and infect with little to no symptoms. But then why would it provoke a cytokine storm in a zombie bite? The writers can’t have it both ways. Then there’s the physics of reanimating dead bodies.

People really need to understand the difference between good story telling and realism. This show is a fictional drama show. It’s hard to have drama with zombies if everyone is in full body ballistic gear and there’s no risk of infection. It’s how you get the sense of dread and fear that drives the show. If you had everyone geared head to toe with fully automatic rifles then what’s the point of having zombies if they provide no horror? For those who don't know: Robert Kirkman, while trying to get the comics adapted to a tv series, was forced to give an answer of how the virus started to AMC if he wanted to get the show up and running at all. They wanted to explore what caused it. He told them "Aliens", especially because EVERY person in the world was infected at the exact same time. Consider it like how crop-duster planes dust their crops with pesticides. Of course he was lying, because once the show was green-lit he refused to give an explanation (the series was only ever about what happens after the outbreak) and simply followed the comics very closely for the first few seasons. The show ended up being such a hit that AMC simply didn't care that Kirkman lied to them, because money and ratings.

In the original comics, the term, zombies, was still used, but not as common as the term, roamers, which was the most common zombie name for the walkers. In one of the issues during the prison arc, Tyreese told Rick that calling the roamers “zombies” was too ridiculous.

*Noob question here -* Assuming a walker doesn't breathe due to lack of lung power from, well, being dead, how is a walker able to smell if it can't breathe in scents?
@ANite-vx1vk5 жыл бұрын
Well they should still be able to inhale/exhale. It's more of a series of muscle contractions than a general organ function to be honest. Your nose still picks up on the smells when you breath. It isn't something complex like the brain firing off or your stomach digesting. (I think it was hinted at that the stomach doesn't digest food anymore. Season 2 when Darryl gutted that walker?) As long as they can still walk they are able to move the muscles you need to inhale/exhale. Considering everything needs to breath one way or another the Walker brain is probably still making it breath on reflex. Plus they groan and hiss, so they have to be able to breathe for that. They don't get anything from breathing, but can still do it.
@Dalton_Boardman20005 жыл бұрын
@@ANite-vx1vk that's some pretty sound logic. They still breath air but the virtue of being dead means they don't need oxygen to keep existing (or walking).
@nihalanshu5 жыл бұрын
i have an answer for that ..... 'convinence'
@hanzy-66574 жыл бұрын
Ik this whole show is not realistic, but you don’t need to breathe to pick up a scent. A stray wind can just blow a scent into the nose’s chemical receptors. Especially if it’s a strong scent (aka human BO).
@yuupers43274 жыл бұрын
That n the fact that a) some walkers have no fuckin nose b) some literally dont have lungs c) you can’t take the puny receptors in our living nose and overclock them like a fuckin cpu. They’d smell the same shit, if they could smell, which most could not, and they wouldn’t be able to distinguish anything until they were point blank up close.

@30cal234 жыл бұрын
Different strain perhaps? Airbourne only works when you die your system can handle that but the contact (bite) strain would be introduced directly to bloodstream so very quick movement to infect everything and once it's past the bloodbrain barrier you are screwed, hershal got bit and was saved because you can amputate a leg you can't amputate your neck or torso

In the Telltale game for The Walking Dead you also see that in winter the Walkers freeze. I'm not sure if it counts as canon or not, but basically because they're dead and have no body heat, when they're exposed to cold enough conditions they begin to slow down and if it's cold enough they will freeze almost completely. so the walking dead is actually like night of the living dead. I prefer those kinds of zombies where they only become zombies upon death, not that whole "oh I was bitten I'm gonna turn guys you have to go without me" thanks for explaining this so I know what it's all about
@ANite-vx1vk5 жыл бұрын
You're thinking of traditional 'zombies'. Like, old school kind. People brought back from the dead by magic to be used as slaves or puppets. That's why there isn't any biting or turning involved. Virus types have become more popular and realistic as of late so that's what people have gravitated towards, hence the biting. The distinction has been lost in the last two decades.
