Have you struggled to find investors for your film? Did you end up financing it yourself?

EDIT: I didn't see the shorts on the channel earlier! Hi Film Courage team -- I really love the channel and want to see it thrive for a long time to come. Have you considered making KZbin shorts and adding questions like these to the end of the shorts? I think using shorts would make help the channel be super popular. There's so many people who love films and want to make their own so I know there's a huge audience!

"Experience is what you get, just after you needed it!" I love stories like this, from the people determined to make it happen even if they aren't sure how. Just doing it and frequently learning the hard way, but always learning. Letting no obstacles stop them.

This is a great interview. Our first film Trinket Box just came out and I dealt with this for years before we finally got someone to invest in me. He’s right. I (Acoryé) had to get my business plan together and number projections before we got anyone to invest. We did our film with $150K and this year we got an original streaming deal and now our film just had its first international theatrical release and has grossed over 2 times the budget already with other territories to come. We even had a theatrical release here in the US through my company. Point is, don’t give up. Took me years, but when the plan worked out because I put in the work, it’s worth it. Great interview.

First time film maker and I knew nobody would invest. Passion projects with limited promo budgets almost can never show an investor where they will make their money back. I financed my first movie and a funny thing happen. Investors came after I showed viewership numbers and won multiple film awards. It’s hard as sh*t but possible 🎬 loved this interview 💪🏾

Was there in 2017. He gave my cousin his first staring role in Circumstances 1. I saw the hustle and his passion back then. I'm glad he kept going and now has several projects under his belt.

When technology reached a point where I could make my visions come true from my desktop, I completely abandoned the idea of looking for investors. Sure, without a team, it took me fives years to animate a half hour, but it also only cost me $170. I've already spent more just getting it into film festivals.

While I agree it's amazing what we can do ourselves and we can do the large amount of it ourselves without needing to spent a lot of actual money or find investors, the hours you put in to it aren't 'free' despite all the benefits of doing it yourself and the learning. If you can find the investors or other people to help absolutely I'm going to take that option to get my ideas to reality.

@@Artlad Yes, but "actual money" is usually where projects end up failing.

Been there, done that, still doing that. Its important to understand the business end of the stick before you write the script.

Yeah at this point, self produced projects is the way to go until you find those people who get your vision and will invest.

How do you choose people to interview? I recently shot a feature film and landed it on Tubi as a 23 year old in South Jersey. Overall budget was less than $5,000. Edited , casted, produced it independently. It’s called PAPER GEMS. Streaming now
