These are profound observations. About comedy. About life.

My brother sent this to me. He knows that I've been doing comedy for over 12 years and shared it as soon as he saw it. It was quite insightful and better than I expected. Good job.

I find that it's sometimes awkward to perform comedy in front of an audience, especially if it's political comedy. Depending on people's views, you're just not sure how they will react. If they will laugh or if the room will be be filled with an awkward silence.

it’s refreshing to see a discussion of this that isn’t just berating audiences for not laughing when a comedian crosses the line

FANTASTIC! I've been watching for a few years now and there have been gems, but this right here is such great information. Even though I don't do comedy and don't even make films (I'm a 40-year game developer veteran), this applies so well to game crafting. I've always considered my games a "conversation", a "dance" with the player. We go back and forth and react to what each other is "saying". The key is knowing how to control the cadence of the conversation. Thanks for another banger vid.

They still make comedies???

The 'metaphysical masochism of the entertainer' assumes that getting and keeping the audience on side, pleasing them and preventing any walls from springing up, is appropriate. Maybe you realise it is more than appropriate. And you go paint abstract expressionism.

This is why they don't make good comedies anymore, because most "comedies" are afraid of not just crossing the line, but getting anywhere near the line. I pop in Tropic Thunder or Team America and I still laugh at how far those movies go.

Comedians don't know the difference between ridicule and comedy these days.

America hasn't written a decent comedy since Bad Santa. Comedies have been outlawed by the dreary & infantile Orwellian1984-Wokewood regime. They have gone extinct. Just like the dodo. Fortunately for us we still have brilliant comedies before the putsch.

Agreed, cinema and comedy are road-kill after the woke short bus has rolled over them.
