Big sigh of satisfaction upon finishing this video, for the depth of presentation and for the very grounded, earth-level, working videographer's perspective. "Just do whatever works." Thank you.

I was Nikon user had few D800's and I switched to a6500, I don't have problems with overheating at all, I shoot 4K and I am using it as my main camera for video. Nevere had a single issue. I agree with Scott regarding battery life but I have few third party batteries which work amazing. They charge fast and I also have car charger. So no worries with Sony it is pocket rocket workhorse.

Hey Scott great vid, I expect you have since discovered this but the Small HD when mounted at the bottom of the Crane, can simply be mounted upside down on its supplied bracket which means the output cord is now on the top right of the monitor making the cord length just perfect . I have two SmallHD's and have them both flipped on my two Crane/Sony Cam combos.

Great video, Scott. You have several videos that talk about your recent experiences with the Crane 2. In this video, you talk about how you used the small monitor with the Crane 2 and the A6500. How are you capturing audio when using the A6500 on the Crane 2? Looks like you have been using Rode Videomic Pro in other situations, but are you using in on the Crane 2? Thanks.

FYI... there is a firmware that will allow to record past the 29.59 limit. You will need to use an external battery with the ac adapter (dummy battery) to avoid over heating. If you don’t like it after the upgrade you can restore back to factory setting.

I found these little 4,000 mAh usb rechargeable batteries branded JW, and one of those plugged in to the a6500’s usb charging port runs for hours. If you have all that other stuff bolted on top of the camera anyway, it’s a no-brainer, but even if not it still makes sense. Yeah, but don’t use this camera for 2hr, non-stop interviews. Get a video camera for that. The a6500 makes a great companion to the FS5 or FS7, if you’re an actual video shooter.

I’m going to be using my A7sii as my main camera. I’m still debating on what cam I’ll rent for my B cam (safe shots zoomed). What do you think A6500 w the 70-200 or the GH5 (not sure what lens)?

Hey man great review ! But I’m pretty sure the 18-105 isn’t cropped. I have the same setup and found that the focal length on the apsc sonys is actually 18-105 :)
@scottmckenna
@scottmckenna 6 жыл бұрын
It’s cropped if you’re putting it on a crop sensor body.
@vyshnav5013
@vyshnav5013 6 жыл бұрын
Scott McKenna yes when you put FE lenses on a cropped sensor body you need to compensate for the crop factor. This lens, according to Sony should give a 18-105 mm equivalent on a cropped sensor body. I might be wrong but that’s what I experienced. They even classify it as an “APS-C lens” on the brochure I have. Also I compared it to a canon 18mm and I think it does give an 18mm image. That’s just my comparison :). I do not have a full frame camera body to test it out but again I might be wrong .

Hello there, Scott! I've stumbled upon a pretty rough issue to deal with, especially when I'm just about to shoot my first A6500+GH5 combo wedding ceremony. The problem appears after about 15-20 minutes of recording with my A6500 (with the dummy battery inside, connected to a powerbank) - an orange thermometer icon appears on screen and shortly after the camera turns off, along with an overheating warning. Help! What should I do to solve that one out? :O

from the a6300 definitely. IN body stabilization, better overheating, and not a huge cost so it's worth the upgrade.

heat comes from processor. Dummy doesnt increase recording times by that much
@scottmckenna

A dummy battery absolutely improved overheating reliability. The battery is what heats up a lot as well. Yes the processor is what heats up, but the battery is a big factor in that.

Great video... love your footage samples too... I have used the A6300 on a cinevate uno rig as main camera for full wedding 10am to 10pm withe A7ii for b-roll... I’ve done a video showing how I powered the camera and worked round the overheatingon my channel... the heating firmware update Sony released works great... Would you add a single gh5s for lockdown and prep shots?

A GH5 is a great lockdown camera especially because it’s unlimited recording time, battery life and reliability. No question.

But it seems that you are in focus all the time. About the same happens on a6500 on autofocus at least at 18-105. Background goes back and forth but the subject is in focus.
@scottmckenna
@scottmckenna 6 жыл бұрын
It usually happens on the A6500 if you have the autofocus settings on fast. Don’t have them on fast. The autofocus is so good on the A6500 that fast isn’t necessary. Just do it on normal speed.
@johndus
@johndus 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Scott, you mentioned the 18-105 is more like 150mm. Isn't the 180-105 an E mount lens? So there shouldn't be a need for conversion right? Thanks
@scottmckenna
@scottmckenna 6 жыл бұрын
the A6500 is an aps-c sensor, meaning it’s a 1.5x crop. Meaning it’s more like a 27-150. That’s how the crop factor works.
@johndus
@johndus 6 жыл бұрын
Scott McKenna oh! I was under the impression the 18-105 was a crop sensor lens too!
@scottmckenna
@scottmckenna 6 жыл бұрын
It’s an aps-c based lens meaning you CANT use it on full frame without vignetting. BUT, a crop factor still applies to it on a crop lens.

@scottmckenna
@scottmckenna 6 жыл бұрын
It doesn't have to be in the camera, but I highly suggest keeping one in because IF the power bank fails or the cable gets disconnected, the camera will instantly turn off which you don't want it to do. If there is a battery in it, it'll at least keep working.
@Kero_81
@Kero_81 6 жыл бұрын
thats a very good point, thanky for that! =) its really nice that i can use a powerbank to power the camera. i will be filming 99% of the time outdoor, so best thing a new camera can have. the only thing that keeps me from buying now is the overheating problem. i have to get more infos about this before i decide to buy or not.

+Kiywii just because specs show you something doesn't mean it's better. My iPhone shoots 4k 60 and the a6500 shoots 1080 60fps. Doesn't mean the 4k 60 looks better on the iPhone than the a6500. Sensors still matter. A7r2 is full frame.
