*What is your favorite camera hack, tip or feature that you think people should know about?*

All tips were great but I loved the time lapse tip the most!! 😄😄🔥
@dunnadidit6 жыл бұрын
Super handy hey! I love that function too.
@cabinadefotos6 жыл бұрын
Great video! Another hack is that you can install apps to it, basically it's running a modified version of Android and there is a way to install custom apps that are not accessible in the camera's store. For example I wanted to install the time lapse app from Sony but since I don't live in the u.s. The App Store did not let me buy it. So after some research I found out you can install custom apps. So there is a time lapse app which lets you take time lapses in photo mode with silent shooting!

I just picked up a Sony 6500. Thanks for those great little hidden features, Dunna. For the focus tap zoom in feature you can actually set a time for when it jumps back out to regular view. This way you don't have to double tap again.

Yes I think it even defaults to this feature but I disabled it for fear of smashing my camera for ever time it snapped back out when I was trying to focus haha! Thanks for watching Borgi!

Memory recall is my jam! Got 4k 24fps and 1080 120fps set up and it's so handy.
@dunnadidit6 жыл бұрын
That was how I originally set it up too! Lately, it’s S&Q on one, 120fps on the other, and then I spend 90% of my time in manual mode and I just make sure I’m on 24fps there.
@ekphotography6 жыл бұрын
Dunna Did It S&Q you lose quality, that is a no no.

It’s still a higher bit rate than the video that the a6000 shoots and I was happy to post the videos I created with that camera, so for the convenience it affords me, I still like it. It depends on the situation though, if it’s something that I ABSOLUTELY need to have top quality and crazy editing capability, I’ll shoot a raw photo timelapse. But there are lots of situations where that process is cumbersome and not really necessary. For example, you can shoot a quick timelapse on your phone and it can be more than useable for a vlog or something like that.

My memory recall is slow, whenever i switch the dial 1 and 2, it pop up the setting information, this wasted few seconds where i can't start shooting instantly.

Fantastic work as always! My favorite camera hack currently is white balancing for tungsten light and using those lights as practicals in daylight scenes. It looks so naturally beautiful.
@dunnadidit6 жыл бұрын
Cool! I think I get what you’re saying but can you explain a bit more? Balance the camera for tungsten so instead of looking orange, the tungsten lights look daylight and the daylight looks more blue? Or balance for daylight so that the daylight looks natural and the tungsten has that warm orange glow?

Thanks for all the great tips in one place. Yeah, I am a big fan of using the various memory slots. One hack I have heard of (but haven't started using) are these little rubber "dots" with adhesive on the bottom. You stick them on to whichever buttons you like so it is a little easier to feel and press the buttons. I will have to track them down myself because I really want one for the video record button. Thanks again.
@dunnadidit6 жыл бұрын
That is a cool idea, I do feel like the buttons could be a bit more... tactile? ergonomic? I can't think of the word. But easier to find without looking haha. I've seen something like what you're talking about for the shutter button. But I could see it being really handy for the dumb record button like you said!
@makepaladinsmehagain84936 жыл бұрын
So I think they are called button bumps. The person who makes them also makes a few other unusual, inexpensive accessories for Sony cameras. I guess there are others besides button bumps though too.

I'm new to the a6500 and I love the tip about setting the memory 1 & 2 modes. I'm trying to set them both, one for time-lapse, one for slow-mo, but each time I go to set one mode, it shows that the other mode is the same. How do I get them to be different? Sorry if this question isn't clear...I'm a total noob.
@dunnadidit5 жыл бұрын
Hmmm yeah its a bit tough to know what to say. Basically, go to the movie setting, get all your settings where they should be... find memory 1/2 in your menu, and choose to save to the one you want. Then go to the S&Q (assuming you're using that for your timelapse) and do the same for the other setting spot. That should get you there hopefully!

When switching between vid & photo does the picture profile settings apply to to the 6400 as well? Not sure if they updated it with a fix to the problem you mentioned
@dunnadidit5 жыл бұрын
The settings are still the same, although the way that I use it, it becomes a tool not a problem. Essentially, picture profiles can't be used when using silent shooting. But I don't want picture profiles in RAW photos anyway because they don't apply to the final image anyway so what I'm seeing on the screen wouldn't be accurate. So the silent shooting hack allows me to shoot photos with no PP but as soon as I hit the movie record button, my PP turns back on for the video. As far as I can tell, its the same on the a6400.

That’s probably a lot of the issue, with 120fps you lose a decent amount of quality because it needs to cram so many frames inside the same but rate. I suggest trying to be more mindful of what you’re going to want to slow down and only shoot those in 120. Either that or switch to 60 so that it’s not quite as bad.

It’s just the aspect ratio. In photo mode, it defaults to being 3x4 whereas video can only be 16x9 so it has to crop the top and bottom a little bit. As far as I’m aware, there is no way to shoot 3x4 video on most cameras.

My favourite is the silent shooting tip which allows the seamless switching between video picture profile and RAW photo shooting w/o any effect. Bonus tip I personally came across which is handy I'd like to share with you is to set up the "Custom Key (PB)" to launch the Application List. I found this useful when I need to use my smartphone as a remote trigger. Further, I've arranged the "Smart Remote Control" app on the camera as the first app so when I need to use my phone to communicate with the camera I'm only 3 button clicks away! You should try it too, beats having to dig through the menu to find the Application List when you need it. Happy creating! 🤩

So even though I can’t see myself when recording internally, I have confidence that the face tracking is working. But some of the features and functions of the ninja v are pretty awesome too.

Hi from Switzerland Dunna ! Quick question regarding the A6500 for slow motions results in 4K. From your experiences with this camera and for the best results. Should it be better to : 1) Shoot in 1080p (120fps), speed down in Premier pro and upscal in 4K ? 2) Or shoot in 4K (30fps), speed down in Premier pro and keep the format source 4K for quality ? Thanks again for your videos and to keep continue to built this amazing Sony community ! Alex

Hey Alex! Honestly, this is something I’m still playing with. For a long time, I would shoot 4K but always edit and export in 1080 so that I didn’t have to upscale my slow motion clips. But lately, I’ve been doing a lot less slow motion and so I’ve been working with my regular footage in 4K start-to-finish. In a few cases, I shot 120fps and upscaled to 4K and I didn’t think it looked too bad. I don’t exactly have a definitive answer for you because I’m still playing with this but I would say that if you are using LOTS of 60fps or 120fps slow motion in your videos, just work and export in 1080p (downscaling any 4K footage you might have shot). But if you are only using a couple clips of slow motion and it’s only for KZbin... I’d say upscaling is ok. Hope that helps!

@@dunnadidit Thanks a lot for your quick answer and all the info. I can see that is a tough topic :) and a future A7000 Sony 4K up to 60fps will solve this ! Maybe mixing 1080p slow mo and 4K normal speed in a final 4k export could be an alternative. Thanks again Dunna take care! Alex

Hey I'm curious, how do you mount your Rode NTG2 when you're solo shooting in a studio like this?
@dunnadidit6 жыл бұрын
I have a microphone boom stand that goes kind of up and over me :) I use a little friction arm to attach my zoom recorder to the side of the mic stand so I can keep an eye on levels and such.

Not in an a6500. The first camera for Sony to do that is the A7RIV
@dunnadidit5 жыл бұрын
Stephen Nailed it! The only cameras in the Sony lineup that have that feature are the a7Riv, a6600, and a6100(i think)

One thing I've noticed with silent shooting is that the flash (both internal and external) doesn't work, Is there a work around for that? Thanks.

Interesting! I don't often shoot with flash so I haven't run into this. I'll have to do some digging... Anyone else in here dealt with this?

Ok, I got one for you. can you power the camera without a battery in the compartment using the usb external battery as a way to keep the camera cooler? Still waiting the the 6700 and hoping it puts an end to all this.
@dunnadidit6 жыл бұрын
Just tested... no luck, you have to have the battery in. However, since the a6500 I have never experienced the camera shutting down from overheating and I’ve run it on 4K video for about 40 min straight and on and off all day in hot environments too. Maybe they can improve the fact that it gets hot but at least they fixed the shutting down.
@dunnadidit6 жыл бұрын
All that being said, there are still a lot of upgrades I’m waiting for in the a7000/a6700/whatever as well ;)

@@dunnadidit Is the camera super hot to the touch after you record 30+minutes in 4k continuously?

@@dunnadidit Ok. Thanks. So last question. Should I invest in the Micro 4 thirds system or APSC? Full frame lenses are too expensive for me.For KZbin videos and documentaries and interviews and B-ROLL should I get the GH5s or should I get the a6500 with the Atomos Ninja 5 (it'll be same price for both as just the GH5s).

Great video, thanks man. I wanted to ask you. I own my own production company and wanting to upgrade from my current cameras to 4k but within a budget. Do you think the A6500 will be able to handle what I want it to do. Mostly corporate work, events and so forth? Also are there add on's that can you know of that will make the ergonomic of it better? Thanks again for the video!
@dunnadidit5 жыл бұрын
Hey Ryan! I think you could definitely do that kind of work with a6500s. And if you’re looking to rig it out a bit, check out smallrig products, they make all sorts of cages and handles and such for just that reason!
