Collooney was the only small town in Ireland with three train stations. The current station was on the Midland, Great Western line to Dublin. Just south of it was the station (now a house) on the Limerick line, part of the Waterford, Limerick and Western Railway. Just to the north was the station (demolished) for the Enniskillen line, part of the Sligo, Leitrim and Northern Counties company.

After watching All The Stations UK, and now catching up watching the Ireland version, I have to say that it is not the trains or the stations or the music or the editing that draws me to these videos. I have come to the conclusion that it is actually the chemistry between Geoff and Vicki, and never has that been more apparent than in this episode. Love is hard to define but you know it when you see it. Nothing else to add, just stating the obvious perhaps, but it's a pleasure to watch (and learn something along the way too.) Cheers from Connecticut, USA.

Sligo was also home to a narrow gauge railway station that connected to the Donegal County Railway and (I think) had a line through Leitrim to Enniskillen in Fermanagh. Both gone since the 1950's.
@esmeephillips5888 Жыл бұрын
No, there was never a narrow gauge line north of Sligo. The Sligo, Leitrim and Northern Counties Rly was standard gauge to Enniskillen via Manorhamilton, connecting with the Great Northern to Londonderry; it ran into Sligo from a junction with the Dublin main line at Collooney. Like the GNR it was a casualty of the NI government's purge of western and cross-border routes in the mid-1950s.

M3 parkway is part of a new Navan line which Irish Rail built around 2010/2011. It was as you may be able to tell meant to go to Navan however with the recession it was put on hold and M3 Parkway was made a temporary terminus but hasn't been touched since. I'd say hopefully it would be built in the next 3-5 years but you can never tell with the NTA.

In Germany the Reservation display only shows from where to where the seat is reserved. This way you know in advance when a seat will be taken and you can look for a seat that´s available for your entire trip. Also this makes it possible for the operator to give the same seat to different reservations for different parts of the trains journey.

That story that Kieran told is very familiar! I'm from Australia and I'm 3hrs South of Sydney at the end of the train line, but you stop on the electrified line about 4-5 stops from the end and switch over to the diesel loco and catch that right to the end and it does a shuttle constantly between the couple of stations. Problem being about 90mins north is a big uni town and a lot of us 'hicks' travel up on the train for a decent night out, coming back though and being drunk as many are they fall asleep on the diesel shuttle and end up going back and forth until the guard notices or they wake up. I also have heard of people falling asleep on the electrified train and not hopping off for the shuttle and waking up back in Sydney, some 3hrs away after a long night out drinking. Haha, bit of a whoops.

Fun Fact about Hansfield Station: construction on the station was completed in 2010 along with the rest of the M3 Parkway line however the station remained disused until it's opening in 2013 because the local council neglected to build a road to the station so it just sat in the middle of a field. If you get out at the station you can see loads of connections where a road could join up because they were unsure of where it would go at the time of building.

Cannot believe you didn't even get out of you seat to look out. You just breezed by. I was on the platform at the time and could have given you so much information just like some of your other "guests" . If you are truly are the rail and in infrastructure enthusiasts that I believe you to be, there are many abandoned railways including this one that you should get back to see.
