I recently upgraded my DJI Ronin S gimbal to the much smaller and more convenient DJI RS3 Mini! In this video I take this new tiny gimbal into the field to film a professional football game to see if it can hang, and I discuss some crucial mistakes to avoid when filming sports with a gimbal.

I have the crane 3s for my Fx6 and the crane 3m for my ZVE1 😅 but as you said, sometimes it’s a little bit difficult with gimbals so handheld shooting is not so bad 😂

I can’t even imagine mounting an FX6 to a gimbal and trying to operate that solo for an entire game. Forearms would be on fire 😂

I have been thinking about getting my first gimbal but often wonder if it's difficult to learn (been a pro photog for about 18 years). The RS3 mini really looks promising, but often wonder if it's enough for an R6 II and Sigma 50 1.4 and 14-24 2.8 lens. Btw, welcome to Winnipeg. Hope it wasn't too hot for ya.

I’d definitely say make the jump and give one a try! If you’re curious about payload a small scale to weigh your camera and lens combo then compare to your gimbals max payload is a good way to start, and if those numbers are too close for you to be sure then a local camera store should let you test your rig out on a gimbal if you’re a prospective buyer. What’s the exact setup you’re using on the gimbal, A7iv and 20 mm? Asking because I wonder if adding the weight of a cage would be too much for the RS3 mini

Yes that is the setup! I’ve tried with a cage before and I’m not saying it’s impossible to mount, but it seemed a little heavier than I’d feel comfortable with

Getting ready to grab this gimbal. What do you have mounted to the bottom of your gimbal?. Awesome videos too. Just got a sony a7iv about almost two weeks ago and never touched manual setting or a real camera until now. MY sports videos look better than most of the pros out there that have been shooting for years at the games im attending. I've studied hours or your videos over the last 2 weeks. At the bottom of the gimbal I’ve just got a plastic clamp with a flexible arm (think gorillapod) attached to hold the 360 camera capturing my BTS shots. The A7IV is great, glad you’re getting some solid use out of it!!
