AWESOME!!!! Thanks for sharing. I shoot football as well and the struggle is real trying to cover the entire field. Knowing the team and the plays they might run helps a ton as you say. Would love to see a pre- and post-game video as well. I've been mic'ing up coaches and blending that into my videos. It gives a nice touch as well. I'm gonna try to mic up a player this coming season.

That’s awesome that you’re micing people up! Access to that stuff is much more limited where I’m shooting so it sadly isn’t a realistic possibility most of the time. I’m sure that the results you’re getting from that are 🔥 and I’d love to try and incorporate that down the line if the opportunity presents itself.

EXCELLENT content!! I spent this past football season filming a local high school with my friends old Canan 7D, and just today I got my own Sony A6400 and rig setup. Now I cannot wait for FB season to start again.

What are you using to stabilise? Is the camera on a monopod? Gimbal? Some kind of rig? handheld? No mention in your equipment section, would've been useful to know how you set that up !
@petersarellas
@petersarellas 3 күн бұрын
I film handheld and use a camera strap around my neck to stabilize when I’m using a 70-200mm. If I have a 100-400mm or longer I’ll use a hi-hat. Here’s a video going over how my camera build is set up in detail. The actual camera body you used can be swapped for whatever you prefer: My Sony FX30 Camera Rig for Filming Football Videos kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGW4aIGue6aUnZo

What are tips for filming game film for teams to rewatch. Trying to find ways to balance between quality and entire team.
@petersarellas
@petersarellas Жыл бұрын
Filming a game in a way that has some sort of cinematic value and filming game tape for teams to analyse are two totally different things, and you can’t really do both well at the same time. If you’re filming for game analysis your best bet is to take a high angle on a tripod and shoot wide following the action like a broadcast camera operator.

Do you have a recomandation about external monitor for a camera ? I can't spend 300$ on a monitor and they are a lot of screens out there... Thx !
@petersarellas
@petersarellas Жыл бұрын
I personally use the Andycine A6 Plus because its decently large and has a range of options for monitoring like built-in LUTs, zebras, histogram, false colour, etc and costs less than $200 USD so I’d look into that and see if it mashes sense for you

do you think the sony 70-200 f4 on the fx30 does a great job when filming a game at night or you feel like you always need the f2.8 in those light conditions?
@petersarellas
@petersarellas 11 ай бұрын
I use a 70-200 f4 lens at night with the fx30 and it definitely works for me but I’m also filming in stadiums with professional lighting and I don’t overcrank my shutter at night with that set up so depends on the conditions you’re filming in and the look you want

Love the video ... thanks! Great work. I've shot high school lacrosse for 8-10 years (~400 games) and I'll be darned if I can figure out how most KZbin vids on sports photography rely on mirrorless cameras. I have the Sony 70-200 2.8 mk 2 and the 100-400, along with a couple of Sony bodies (A7RIV & A7RV). The output is beautiful, but I don't think I could ever shoot lacrosse or soccer with that gear. Those are sports that don't stop and I need a full field view. That means I'm usually shooting from a press box or very high in the stands. Shooting a full game like this requires a LANC remote and an ENG camera. I need to be able to follow the action with a tripod and control how close I am to the action with remote zoom on the tripod handle. Am I missing something? Thanks again.

I guess you had a change of life. In your A7IV video you said you don't really need the 4k 120 because instagram compression now you're using it on your FX30
@petersarellas
@petersarellas Жыл бұрын
You definitely don’t need it and can make great videos without slowing things down that much. There are still times where I’ll grab the A7IV for in-game because of the better low light performance, though 120fps is a nice to have in some scenarios. I’ve especially been enjoying the ability to shoot 4k60 with internal proxies on the FX30 and then quickly switch to 120fps for key moments, but I wouldn’t say that 4K 120 is an absolute game changer or anything like that.

For beginning videographers like myself, I was wondering do you need any credentials to be on the field to film the football games?
@evanlynch3389
@evanlynch3389 Жыл бұрын
Depends on the level of football. For high school (in America for me), you can usually just email the school's athletic director the week before the game and get permission to be on the field. If it's a bigger high school game, like one of the top teams then it will be more difficult to get field access. Anything higher level than high school you will need credentials to be on the field
