sorry, but what was up with that steadicam operator??! :D i get that some people don't really need dynamic balance but that rig is just off the charts. and his posture + how he's using the steadicam is just back-breaking and dangerous. don't let union see that.

Always appreciate the feedback my friend! Luckily it's not a legit Steadicam, it's an off-brand, but we'll have to talk about it next time we shoot! 😀

Didn't really except an answer from you at all, that's awesome :) But still, pretty much everyting i said also applies to an off-brand model. In the end it's about creating something awesome while keeping everyone safe, especially with explosives, a larger crew and stunts. But as long as you're aware of it and are willing to work on it, that's good :) I know how difficult it can be operating a full size steadicam(/steadycam) for the first time. Keep making awesome vids like always and keep it safe, we all want him to be a camera operator for a long time and not end his career due to back problems!

Hi man, I'm definitely not a pro but a keen amateur willing to learn. What was wrong with the way he was using the steadicam? Thanks in advance.

The main problem is how he has the sled right in front of him (probably due to the lack of a monitor mounted to the bottom front of the sled). This way all the mass (camera, batteries, the sled itself etc) is too far away from his body and in an inadequate position wich is bad for his back/body. The best position would be on the right or left side of your body and pretty close (without accidentally touching your body). Also, with a full steadicam rig with a vest and spring arms, you don't actually bend your back or knees. Bending your back will push the sled away from you (can be pretty dangerous with heavy rigs) and bending your knees is also not necessary as you can just push the sled down and let the spring arms do the work. (with a glidecam that's a completely different story) The main problem regarding the balancing is what is called dynamic balance.
