I had the honor of knowing Desmond Doss. I grew up with his grand niece. His faith in the Lord and unconditional love was with him all his life! Listening to Mr. Doss story as a kid made me join the Army and serve 14 years. I know when I watch the movie, I will be very emotional knowing Desmond and his courage!!

Garfield did a spectacular job playing Desmond, He really deserve an Oscar! When I watched the movie, I didn't see Andrew, I saw Desmond! Mel Gibson did a awesome job too! Desmond saved more lives before the Battle of Okinawa. I know he saved 65 live in the other battles before Okinawa. I was in the Air National Gurad and after 9/11 I went Active Duty Army. I left the Pentagon a few months before 9/11 from an Active Duty Air Force tour. If I had stayed, I would have been in Section 4 to get my morning Starbucks.

Stephanie Grove rofl. Good on you. It must have been a tense time after 9/11 for you, in any way. I joined the army post 9/11. Not to kill but to try and help people in the service. I ended up fucking myself up in the end, but such is life. Thank you for your insight and opinion.

Andrew is a brilliant actor ! That scene in the tunnels where he helped not the enemy but another human being. What's the most profound part for me. That's at the cake. The whole movie had many lessons to behold and inspiring to become a better human being. In the middle of a terrifying war on both sides. Astonishing work.

There have been 2 movies in my life that made me cry from the deepest part of my being. The kind of cry that continues even after the movie is over. Both of those movies were made by Mel. I cry not only because of the story itself, but because there is a human being living who knows how important it is to tell that story. Hacksaw Ridge is one of them.

It is so faszinating to watch Mel Gibson when the others are talking... you can see that he is not only hearing... he listens, processes and dissects what was said. He listens with his entire body and face. It almost seems exhausting at parts. But man... you really can see the difference between hearing and listening ... maybe this is one of the reasons what makes him such an incredible director... and person.

I don't believe God is a myth and I don't believe his actions were attributed to God, but to his dedication and courage to be led by his faith and belief in not killing. Mr. Doss was indeed and extraordinary man, no doubt about it. It would take an extraordinary person to stand by their convictions and perform the incredible acts that he did.

Chris Bean you have to be in denial to think that was done by a mere man. No man can do what Desmond did on his own. That's why he himself give all the Glory to God. You need to look around at creation and know there is a God who deserves to be believed in. When you do maybe you can accomplish what Desmond did.

It's obvious in the last seconds of this interview how much these people all bonded. They are all very orderly & quiet until someone says, "Thank you" and the interview is over. Then everyone at the table erupts into talk, talk, talk as if they were a family around the supper table. I think the sweetest (and most revealing) part of this interview. 36:40

Desmond Doss was an anointed man of faith who led his life by convictions and truly practiced his religion out loud. I will highly recommend this film to those interested in the real heroes in our world. Thank you. 🌹

All the negative comments about Mel Gibson's mannerisms and mental health make me sad. If he had Parkinson's or something, there would a lot of sympathy for him instead of criticism. Mental health is just as important and deserving of our understanding, whether it's bipolar disorder, addiction, ADHD, etc.
@LZsRemedies
@LZsRemedies 7 жыл бұрын
Valocity714 Well said and sadly, this is the type of apathetic world we live in these days. I'm hoping this movie can allow many people to realize what a true hero can look like. It isn't about Mel's beard or someone's religion or even war...although all relevant in their own way...(well, maybe not the beard). It's about a love story and not just Desmond and his wife. It's the love of his fellow brothers, whether or not they have the same beliefs. I agree, if Mel had any other illness, he would be revered even more so but since this is "mental" health, and the simple fact that others feel superior to him because of it, people will always try to put others down so they can "try" to help themselves feel better. We know that misery loves company too, sadly so shame on them all! He's more than his/any illness and more of a man than anyone on this comment section!

I hate how people try and put Mel Gibson down by saying he has mental issues - I don't think he has at all - he's just a straightforward, no BS kind of person and the powers that be in Hollywood don't like someone talking back to them and exposing them for the filth that they actually are.

He may have an attention deficit disorder with hyperactivity. The recognition of this "disorder" which may be characteristic of some of the most creative people, spans my career as a teacher. I turned gray trying to figure how to help such students reach their potential but began to think the 21st century would need them. Life is not like school: unfortunately for a slow mover like me. I have enjoyed most of Mel Gibson's movies, but they are usually quite violent. My favorite was the old one with Goldie Hawn. So funny!

Mel Gibson hands down is one of the best directors in the business. Along with the hole in sambal of all the professionals involved in making the movie. In a such complicated project where everything comes seemingly and flows and all the intricate parts of making a movie such as this one. And the message that is conveying to the public. It's pure faith true conviction and pure love in all of the extent of the word love. I actually felt a holy presence in the movie. As Mel Gibson will say this movie is in another Realm. Thank you. We need to see more movies like this period that appeal to our human nature kindness and love for one another. And maybe we could stop killing each other and Stop the wars

AWESOME movie. Best movie of the year! The violence was needed to drive home without question the heroism that Doss & his fellow soldiers showed in the face of Hell on Earth. 5:55 I'm sorry, did I mishear something or did that guy say that Desmond Doss spoke at the university one year ago, before he passed? Doss died in 2006.

How the heck is Garfield so cute _and_ such a good actor at the same time? They're usually either one of those. 😂

When Mel says, "I'm too old for this stuff," there's a sense of nostalgic irony.

With everything we're all going through right now..im siting here reading all the comments..why all the fucking hate towards Mel?? Do we all ridicule Tom Cruise cuz his religion is based on a sci fi book?? Leave all the hate behind people, thats what brought us here today! Appreciate TALENT, PASSION, and TRUTH. The main reason why Hollywood hates him is cuz he's telling the truth about all the grooming of children that goes on. disgusting.

Mel considers himself a poor practitioner when it comes to his faith. Being humble and admitting this is the beginning of being good and faithful.

My eyes kept watering and then, glutton for punishment that I am, I watched This Is Your Life, Desmond Doss. I used to watch that show with my parents.
