We were thrilled to welcome director Annie Baker and lead actress Zoe Zielger to the stage of Alice Tully Hall following a screening of NYFF Main Slate selection Janet Planet. Baker and Ziegler discuss distinct perspectives, memorizing lines, and mothers in a conversation moderated by FLC Senior Director of Programming Florence Almozini.
Set in 1991 in rural Western Massachusetts, the superb debut film from Pulitzer Prize­-winning playwright Annie Baker is a work of surreal tranquility that follows young Lacy the summer before sixth grade, as she quietly observes her mother Janet and three enigmatic adults who drift in and out of their lives. An A24 release.

Janet's Planet is a wonderful film. Ms. Baker who has always been one of my favorite playwrights is now one of my favorite film directors. And Zoe Ziegler is astonishingly good!

Been going to NYFF every year since 2009. This is right on up there with one of the best experiences I've had! I grew up an introverted child and I feel like Annie Baker gets me--there's a certain language of introversion the screenplay is written in. Need to seek out more of Baker's work ASAP!
