Hey guys, how's it going? Chris Connor here and welcome to another episode of filmmaker reacts for my channel. Seat back, relax and lets study the filmmaking techniques as well as talk about what visual effects can be pulled of within after effects! This week we are reacting and taking a look at APEX LEGENDS cinematic trailers!

Revenant used to be the best hitman the Syndicate had, until he eventually got killed on job. They brought back his brain as a simulacrum, basically a robot controlled by a human conscious, but they reprogrammed him so he didn't know he ever died. Every time his robot body dies, they wipe his memory and bring him back in a NEW robot body. When he got the glass caught in his neck, every death he ever experienced over 280 years as a simulacrum came rushing back to him in one single moment.

Respawn's sound designer Erik Kraber is so good that they use his name for the best sniper rifle in the game. I'm having an eargasm everytime I shoot my Kraber, And I'm scared to death every time someone shoot a Kraber, It's the most terrifying yet satisfying sniper sound I've ever heard in a game.

It has that nice supersonic pop that a .50 has and the howl left by it rings for a nice long time. Its distinctive and let's eeeeveryone know that you can just run out in the open. Its very well designed sound wise

You can watch each season cinematic in order from 1 to 7 to understand a little bit more each new Legend, basically because there are some correlations between some of the Legends, also there are other cinematics with an other art style that are called Stories from the Outlands, they talk with more details about the origins of some Legends and how they get into the Apex Games, you can watch them in no specific order. Please react more to Apex Legends cinematics they are gorgeous and epic as hell.

A laboratory called "Hammond Robotics" created a secret killing machine called "Revenant" (The robot). But in reality its the blond guy you see at the beginning. He was a professional hitman that got killed 300 years ago but Hammonds decided to keep his mind in a secret bunker (Everyone is searching for this bunker) and made him hundreds of robotic bodies. Everytime he dies or completes a mission his memories are wiped and restarts the same day, over and over again. He actually sees himself as that blond guy (Which was his real self). He thinks Hammond hired him for ONE job, but in reality they are just wiping his memories everytime he is doing a mission or dies. He belives its just one mission, in one day. But in reality he killed hundreds of thousands over 300 years. For some unknown reason, the sorce code (the computer thats keeping his real head alive in a bunker) had an error. It restored all his memories. 300 years of death, pain and innocent victims, condensed into 1 second. All the pain from all the bullets that he took, returned all at once. That system error occured when he watched himself in the mirror at the end. Maybe it was because of that piece of glass in his shoulder(?) Anyway, 30 years have passed, and now that little girl turns out as Loba Andrade. She is the only person in over 300 years that found Revenants real head. And by killing that, you kill him forever. But when she was about to kill him the Head got teleported into another secret bunker. For 30 years she hated Revenant for what he has done. Turnes out that in the last 30 years Revenant has been trying to find his Head so he can kill himself. He is not working for Hammonds anymore. He has a free will now. He s been killing everyone who workes for Hammond, trying to find where his Head is. Now he is helping Loba, the little girl from this trailer, to find his Head, and put him out of his misery. This is the story so far. Ps. The reason he can turn all dark and in flames: He mentioned once that he made a deal with a dark god that gave him a power of immortality. When ever he is in that form he cannot die or take damage. This guy in double immortal. His robotic bodies cannot be killed, but if you manage to destroy one, another one will come. He is considered the most lethal weapon in the universe, and now it turned against his own creators.

As far as I know, Revenant was programmed to "remember" himself as a human. And this is the introduction, where he shaves, accepting the next order, something like a loading screen when he is activated, sending him on the next task. The rest of the time he is kept in stasis. Alright, so the character's name is Revenant. He is a human whose mind was transferred into a robot, which are called simulacrums. Rev 's simulacrum has been alive for over 300 years, he is a puppet killing machine for the Syndicate(basically the government) but was built by Hammond Robotics(notice the product placement). That piece of glass somehow messed up his programing and gave him free will, now he wants revenge on the people that made him a puppet. He's no longer human, just a boogeyman or demon to the outlands.

One thing that you missed to throw out there was when Revenant was climbing the side of the building. How so fast they switched back to the family a couple times that you don't pay attention to the reflection of Revenant off the building, showing his past true human form. Its like they reveal the truth of this robot without you even knowing it before the reveal when he has that shard in his neck, and then realizes hes not who he was anymore. Pretty wild and sneaky. 🤙

To make more sense of the smoke effect that he uses: His ultimate ability in the game lets him activate a similar effect and then if he gets downed during the effect, he is remade back at the point where he activated the ability, with full health again. So the smoky effect in the video gets activated, the guards get the upper hand hitting him with a chair, then shooting him in the face, but the ability brings him back for more.

You should also check out the "Stories from the Outlands" cinematics they do as they are fantastic and tell the stories of most characters really well.

He is a simulacrum created by Hammond Industries. The reason u see him as human and he gets mad at the end is bc didn't want to be brought back as a simulacrum and remembers his human self every now and then. If he dies his mind is just transferred to another body so as long as he has more spare bodies,he basically can live forever. Im not sure if some stuff is wrong or not,its been a while since I've played Titanfall 2 and Apex Legends lol

i really like that they involved the shaving. this is a habbit you do every day with alot of focus not like toothbrushing for example. and it is hard to lay off habbits even if they are not necessary he is a robot now.

Rather than doing all the cinematics, I would recommend focusing on the stories from the outlands, those are usually the good ones.

At 09:53 I don't know if you noticed (or if anyone really did because it was so fast), but there's that moment where Revenant is climbing up the wall, and the glass is reflecting his human form, not his robotic form. It's a nice bit of continuity to the character and yet so subtly placed.

There are 2 things you could watch per episode. Every time a new season comes out it comes with 2 videos, a “Stories of the outlands” and a “Story trailer” The Stories of the outlands that have come out are Wraith, Bloodhound, Crypto, Revenant (which you just watched), Loba, Rampart and Horizon, but I don’t really remember the exact order to watch them, But I think it’s Season 1 Story Trailer, then season 2, then Wraith, then Crypto and maybe Bloodhound for season 3, Loba’s comes after Revenant in season 5, then Rampart in season 6 and Horizon in season 7.

A really nice detail is that in this cinematic the reflections show how Revenant sees himself. When he climbs the building, you can see him as a human in the reflection, opposed to his real simulacrum form.

he is a simulacrum (practically the conscience of a person inside a robotic body) who since human worked as a hitman for Hammond robotics (and their symbol is on the hand at the end of the kinematics), at his death they transformed him precisely in a simulacrum, making him believe he is still human and removing part of his memory when the mission failed. While the shadow transformation is an in-game skill that makes you reborn when you die (for this even if he was shot and reappeared). I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS !! PS. I Hope my english was good enough...

That character is named Revenant. He’s what’s called a simulacrum, a human mind placed inside of an artificial body without knowing it. In his case, he has countless bodies and every time he dies he’s brought back. Which makes him an even more dangerous assassin (which he already was). The glass sticking from him broke his immersion, which caused a psychotic break. Now he passes time killing people and taunting that girl whose parents he murdered while they both fight in an arena. Oh, and he wants to kill the people who made him a simulacrum.

I didn't start playing Rev until season 6, and he quickly became my main. I hadn't even seen this trailer until a few weeks ago, and I just cannot get enough of it. It's a lot better than I expected.

Revenant is a simulacrum, which is a human mind downloaded into a robot body. However, revenant was programmed to believe that he was a real human, which is why it shows him as a human in the beginning and shows the robot shaving at the end. The programming shorted out when the glass got into his neck, and he realized he was a robot. It turns out he is 300 years old and has died many times, but has his memory wiped after failed missions. He is resurrected after each time in a new robot body

He got killed at age 44 and syndicate paired with hammond robotics to make revenants mind into a simulacrum server. They made him feel pain and to feel as human as possible. He was the first simulacrum ever in the apex universe and killed for 233 years untill he got assignd to kill andrade. A elevator shard got stuck in his processor and he saw a glitch of the real revenant. He had nightmares of it and he went to find his creators not knowing that they have been dead for 2 centuries. He found this out and killed hammond facilities untill he killed forge, a sponsor for hammond and a new recruted legend in apex games. The syndicate wanted revenant to join the games so that they would have him 'concealed'. (Syndicate created apex games). Revenant agreed because of his endless wanting of blood to be spilled. That is the history of revenant :D

Revenant is a simulacrum which is a robot with a Human mind and body connected to it Basically the human head is hidden away and protected and every time a body would be killed or is destroyed, the mind connects to a different body. Every simulacrum has thousands of bodies. They do not feel any death or pain every time they die. However they do not know that they are robots, they are supposed to believe that they are still humans which is why Revenant is in such dismay when he sees his robot body. Now every death he has ever felt he feels, he feels pain, he feels every death and now he wants to die. How do simulacrums die? Somebody shoots their head. Their human head.

What I read was that basically revenant was one out of a ton of robots whose purpose was too kill employees at Hammond labs, which Loba's ( the little girl) Dad worked for. However, revenant had a glitch that made him think he was human and in seeing himself as such, did normal human things: got dressed, shaved, etc. But occasionally his original programming would kick in and he'd remember he had to take out the employees. At the end when he saw a man in the mirror with a shard of glass in his neck, that was the glitch happening again. But when he pulled out the shard, it kind of showed that he was over the glitch and would remember his real self and purpose.

Some subtle cinematography things also used in this short: the visual bookends of the Hammond robotics logo on his table at the beginning and then his hand at the end, also the snippets of him climbing the outside of the building reveal the duality of his robot body and his human body in the reflection. Lastly the awesome long tracking shot serves a secondary purpose of giving our eyes a moment of rest from all the quick cuts. This short was SO well made, Respawn deserves all the praise.

Revenant is an assassin/hit man that is simulacrum programmed to think he was human. And in this cut scene he kills a future apex legend’s (loba) parents. During the fight he got stabbed with glass from breaking Loba’s dad through it briefly before killing him. That glass caused his programming to short out and show himself what he really is. He’s over 300 years old and during this cut scene he was on a 300 year killing spree.

Revenant used to be a human hitman, and a really good one at that. Actually, he was the best. By far. However, when he eventually died, his "employers" were unwilling to lose their most deadly asset and revived him by retrieving his head and linking it to a computer. Now, Revenant's brain is stored in a self-sustained ultra-high security facility, while his conciousness is streamed to a robot body, like the one we see in the trailer. In this state, Revenant became an even more efficient killer, combining the deadly reflexes of a machine, the near-indestructability of his robot body, and his experience and human inginuity in one deadly package. Since his brain is stored remotely, Revenant is essentially immortal, always returning in a new body should the old one get destroyed (hence his name). Thus, he involutarily served his employers for over THREE HUNDRED YEARS after his death. Now, there was one small issue however: Of course, Revenant would never have agreed to his transformation, so his employers opted to simply... not ask him. They programmed Revenant to still see himself as human, a necessary safety measure as he would otherwise have gone insane. Additionally, they wiped his memory every time he died, so Revenant didn't ever remember his deaths... Until the fateful day we see in this trailer. After three centuries of resets, the errors in his programming finally took over and Revenant's safety mechanisms failed. All the deaths he suffered washed over him in an instant and he could finally see himself for the monster he had become. Needless to say, he was not happy. In fact, he swore revenge on all the people that had caused him such suffering. Namely, Hammond Robotics, the company that used to produce his bodies and provided the technology for the Revenant program. After leaving a trail of blood and mayhem on multiple Hammond facilities searching for his past, Revenant had to find out the bitter truth that, after 300 years, his tormentors were, of course, long gone. Frustrated and furious, Revenant now roams the world in search of release from his perpetual torment, trapped forever in a living nightmare because he can't die, killing anyone he crosses and finally following his programming, slaughtering anyone without need for rhyme or reason.

Something else I like about this is how they distinguished the character roles and motivations. At the beginning we're still unsure who the good guy is and who the bad guy, just with a bounty hunter preparing for a job. His (or his employer's) intentions may have been altruistic and business guy a corrupt and dangerous man. But they instantly established him as the good guy in this story, by showing him interact with his happy family. Killing off a kind father in front of their kid just can't be seen as good, no matter what they did... And to drive the roles home they employed a theme that cinematography borrowed from gaming originally: In a confrontation, you have the good guy on the left, and the bad guy on the right. This is derived from side-scrolling games which overwhelmingly have the player character move from left to right, with the majority of enemies coming at them from right to left. And in this cinematic, the killer is always kept on the right side of the scene, fighting his way through the defending good guys, towards "us", the player, business man, on the left.

Because you asked for an explanation so you get it: This dude was made to a simulacrum (a robot based on a human brain) by the Apex Syndicate (i think) to be an assassin for them. But they programmed so that he sees himself still as human. But when the glass shard was stuck in his neck this malfunctioned and he saw himself how he really is. And now he wants to find his brain so he can finally die (at this point he is a couple 100 years old) but when he wants to destroy his brain it would get teleported to another facility. Because of this he asks th girl (Loba Andrade) and other Legends for help, beccauss she is already an adult by now.

Revenant was actually a hit man operative until a failed mission went awry and he was deemed KIA. The organization who hired him didn’t want to lose such a moneymaker so they turned him into a simulacrim (or crum idfk) which is essentially a robot. It would appear that he was unaware of what he actually is as his demeanor makes it look like he didn’t know of who he was. Everytime his metal body would die, his brain would be replaced into another simulacrim husk.

Just a bit of info because I’m not well versed in the Titanfall/Apex Legends lore. Revenant(the assassin) was originally human, and a proficient killer. After his death, Hammond Robotics brought him back to life in a mechanical body controlled by his (preserved) head (such people are called Simulacrum), and programmed to see himself as human, so he never knew he died. As you saw, after that fateful assassination he realises he’s brought back as a Simulacrum Now, he participates in the Apex Games to find a way to kill himself and stay dead for good.

Revenant was a hit an but then he died and became a robot with is head as the source code. For around 500 yeas he was a assassin for hire, he always believed that he was human, even though he wasn't. until that glass penetrate his neck and he knew he was a robot. He hunted down Hammond robotics employees, they were the company that built him. He eventually joined the apex games so he could kill and really not get in trouble.
