Japan is actually the 2nd biggest music market in the world after the US. A lot of kpop groups debut in Japan since the beginning of Hallyu wave. Japan also has its own Billboard chart along with other music charts like Oricon, where at this point BTS also top the charts at Japanese market.

Also another reason for the Japanese versions is that the relationship between the two countries is not very good politically, so Korean music is difficult to enter (due to censorship problems). Therefore, if they want to enter the Japanese market, they have to launch versions in Japanese.

Another clarification (sorry if this is annoying for the rest of us for whom this is common knowledge lol) yes Suga is older than Namjoon (RM) . But namjoon is the leader so it's common that he's always mentioned first. By age, they go Jin, Suga, Jhope, RM, Jimin, V, JK. Formally RM will be listed first bc of his leader position, but yes, Jin is the oldest!

Most Non Army producers of videos about BTS fail to mention that the company Bighit was small, it WAS NOT big as you remarked, without clout, financially weak and basically outsiders in the Kpop industry which made BTS the underdogs. Their struggle in these conditions is what makes their story interesting. They took years, at least 2, to get recognised and reach some success.

@@LoveTheBasics what made their success even more of a shock was this, as mentioned, that they come from such a small company. The biggest awards like song of the year, or album/artist of the year had hardly ever, or never been won by a musician/group that didn't come from the biggest companies in the kpop industry (what is commonly refered to as Big 3: YG entertainment, JYP entertainment, and SM entertainment). Bts came to break that cycle of so called "privileged" artists who debuted under already humongous companies, which promoted them to death and linked them to already other established artists, taking home the biggest awards in shows year after year. This is what makes them the most admirable, they changed the game, they showed small companies and idols that they can also be part of the race and that privilege doesn't always mean the most accolades or following. This is what makes them an interesting case and what caught the attention of both fans and media everywhere!!

Ok, now that he is a self proclaimed ARMY, someone needs to suggest to him one of those documentaries that will make him cry about all of the struggles that BTS had to go through to get to where they are now. This video was good, but he was right when he said it really only showed the good stuff. They fought and clawed their way to the top and deserve every bit of success they got. This kinda made it seem like it was all luck or that the dominoes just kinda fell into place for them. The fight they fought I believe is also a huge part of their success because ARMY fought with them too. They proved that you truly never walk alone.

20:05 yes the Japanese market is HUGE and very hard to break into if you're foreign from what I've learned. That's why you'll see almost every kpop group doing Japanese versions of songs to see if they can gain some recognition there. To the point where trainees/idols are taught Japanese so they'll be fluent which will make them even more marketable. If you check, some of BTS' biggest concerts are held in Japan. When you do well as an artist in the Japanese music market you know you've made it!

Actually they signed J-Hope as a singer and V as a rapper. But V really wanted to sing...so J-Hope was nice and traded places with V. Actually all rappers can sing, but aren't featured to do that. More trivia. 6 were announced as BTS. Big Hit literally hid V. Mr. Bang was afraid another company would try to lure V away from Big Hit. In their early interviews V is not seen on screen, but was sitting there off screen during every interview. This is specifically shown at 13:34 on this video. Even though Jimin was the last picked. V was the last one announced...just right before they debuted. Again, he was there the whole time training. They just kept him out of the photos. So the photos you see in the beginning with V in the picture are after he was announced and came out of "hiding".

I DEFINITELY want you to react to idol. many people dislike the music video for being 'over the top' and 'too much', but that was the point. in that song they were breaking the kpop stereotypes of being 'cringy' and 'extra' while also sticking it to haters. in the song they purposefully wear and do things haters told them they looked bad doing. Like V wore glasses after a hater telling him it looked bad on him, RM used certain filters after a hater told him that filter looked ugly, and they wore bright colors after repeatedly being told they looked and dressed like girls. it is personally a favorite of mine

My first song I listened to of them was Dope back in 2015, and I was 15 at the time, and it’s so ironic that Namjoon said “Welcome! First time with BTS?” I faded out of them until the day DNA came out in 2017 and I’ve been invested ever since. I’m so incredibly proud of them. I was supposed to attend their Map Of The Soul Tour in Atlanta in 2020 but they haven’t announced the rescheduled dates yet 😭😭 I’m so glad you watched this video! Even though BTS debuted as a hop-hop group, that doesn't negate that they had more calm, noon-hop hip songs like 'Just One Day.' The thing about BTS is that even their b-sides are very good and there's a lot of hidden gems people miss out on when only listening to their title tracks.

Interestingly enough, a lot of people think their demographic are teens and at the time, yes, but as they’ve aged, so has their demographic. The majority of their current fans are in the 30s. The 2nd group after that is 20s. The teens are 3rd and people in their 40s follow. There’s a video by XCeleste that brings up their demographic of fans by age and gender.

BTS songs are what they feel at that time, actually it was vulnerable even from the start, even the first album the main song was abt the pressures south korean economy put their students under. As u know South korea has one of the the highest suicide rate among youth, from HYYH they changed their concept a bit with looks and visuals

What i really love about BTS albums is that it's kind of like chronicle of growth. At each phase of growth, the struggles change, we see the school boy, young high school love, we see the 'emo' persona too, and then we start to get into them as Youth, the struggles visibly change, they begin dealing with heavier topics such as mental health, perception of oneself, and then as you go on they also start deaing with existential crises, more mental health, loneliness, self worth, adult love. I love how, when you listen to the albums in order, and read the lyrics, you can track that change and progress for yourself. I think that's so cool

the actual acronym BTS comes from the korean name of the group, which is '방탄소년단' that is pronounced as 'Bang Tan Soyeondan', i believe BTS was made for easier pronunciation for non-korean speakers. Bullet Proof Boy Scouts is the translation of the name, the meaning of BTS has now also been spread as "Beyond The Scene" in like 2017 or 2018.

There’s a lot of “why?” In the formation of bts Why would BH signed namjoon? Why would bang pd risk everything for a 16 yo? Why would jhope go to a lesser know company? Why would jungkook choose a lesser know company? Why would jin reject one company and say yes to the other? Why would jin get scouted coming out of a bus? There’s a lot of whys in every bts member story… like the possibilities are so low for some of these situations Maybe that’s how it was supposed to be 😊 The japanese matket is the second biggest market in the planet and the hardest one to crack into for foreigners. The best decision BH took was start with jpn promo since their debut. Now bts are BIG BIG in japan, they’ve always been good but after dynamite they exploded there Also, it’s not just about the demographics. Their music has evolved and their discography has grown with them. Since they are soooo involved with the music process is only logical for the songs to change with their age and phase in life

I'm so glad you got to see more about BTS. Watching this just made my heart swell since I've been an ARMY since 2016. Their success is really out of this world and yet they manage to remain humble and true to themselves and that just makes me so proud to support them. @@RA-zr2fz Lol mine too, I became an army in 2020 :( But managing to get a concert ticket is really hard here and since we're literally in the opposite side of the world, they don't come here that often, so b-armys get a little bit mad about the idea of internacional army getting our tickets here rs specially because most of us also don't have money to watch the show in other countries. But yeah, here we like to sing together with the artists, so we do sing the whole show with them and the show becomes a two-sided show with BTS and ARMY singing together thee whole time. Like many Asian cultures, they say their nest with the family names first. So Jimin's family name is Park. BTS comes from their full Korean name BangTan Sonyeondan which roughly translates to bulletproof boy scouts. The Japanese market is actually the 2nd biggest market in the world. Almost all kpop groups cater to the Japanese market as their secondary target market.

The Korean music market before BTS made it big had a very clear hierarchy. “The big three”were the big three music labels (SM, JYP, YG) that basically controlled the kpop industry they had all of the connections and money to invest in training their trainees and to throw into their debut guaranteeing a level of success. After the big three there are mid teir labels Cube, Pledis, and Starship after them all the other labels are tiny and were lucky to get any success at all usually groups from these smaller labels would sometimes get lucky and go viral like EXID. big hit was a one of those smaller labels the fact that BTS dominates KPOP is anomaly enough let alone the internationally.

In 2016 they did 8 fan meet concerts in Japan for 70k concert goers. In that same year they did 3 fan meets for 47k concert goers, this is why it was important to do Japanese versions of their songs at the beginning of their career. Early on BTS realized that they would have to go outside Korea to get their music to be heard. So first they went to Japan then to S. America, to Brazil, Mexico and even to Chile. In that Red Bullet Tour they only went to 4 places in the US NY, Grand Praire(D/FW), Rosemont, LA. So here you can see that even though they were looking to market in the US they still didn't have the high volume of listens here in the US really where they were heard mostly was in Japan and S. America. OK ... You have to go and watch Film Out, Stay Gold, Make It Right w/Lauv, Boy with Love, On, Lights, J-Hope's Ego, Suga's Daechitwa, RM's Persona, Home, Fake Love.

I agree with you so much!! I really think the BU concept was really smart because it makes people come back to their old music videos. Some people come back to it to analyze the story further. It also encourages new fans to venture to their old music videos. So I think it basically makes their music videos timeless because people always come back to it. Also like you said, the vulnerability shown in BU is also a key element as to why people are invested to it and resonates with it. It makes me happy that we have the same thoughts!!

I am glad to see you are trying to get to know more about BTS. I just wanted to point out one thing; their start was not bad, but not as much as they expected. Producer Si-Hyuk Bang, a.k.a. Bang PD, was a famous song writer with numerous hit songs, so when he opened up his new company, Big Hit Entertainment, I think they expected more like a mega hit debut. One thing I like about BTS and their crew the most is that they didn't give up. I mean they couldn't get chances to get on tv, so what they did they do? They made their own TV channel on youtube, Bangtan TV. They make their own radio programs, dance practices, MV's, entertainment show programs etc. Moreover, they are continuously doing it up to this stage, because they know that their fans, who are also their subscribers of their various channels, are the people that made them who they are. I really highly appreciate their effort.

Through the entire video I had goosebumps on me, realizing what we all did for all of this to happen is just ... no words can describe that kind of feeling even just as a fan, you know? I'm very thankful that my father who decides to introduce me to kpop songs and that so happens to be BTS's "just one day" before my father passed away months later after the song actually released.
