Thanks for posting this video and analysis. I'd like to share it on my FB page. The comments I've read here, so far, are from a few years ago, yet they talk about how "relevant" the film is today. The film is DEFINITELY relevant, in light of the riots at the US Capitol on January 6. I first saw this film more than ten years ago on TCM, and it was amazing what Lang & co. did here. The film footage that helped to convict the accused rioters and alleged "killers" couldn't be more relevant as well. Anyway, I was hoping I'd find something on KZbin regarding this film. So, again, thank you for posting your analysis, which is quite insightful.

Absolutely and its films like this and The Ox-Bow Incident are classic American films that speak volumes in today's climate. Feel free to share the video and any content as you wish. Thanks!

Fritz Lang didn't escape Germany because he was Jewish, he escaped because (in his version anyway) Goebbels offered him the job of heading propaganda films and he knew that was a gig he definitely didn't want, so he dipped post haste. He tells this story in the Will Friedkin interview - but be advised some party-pooping film scholars have cast doubt on a few of the details.

The studio forced Lang to produce an upbeat and hopeful ending. It went completely against Lang's cynical and realistic vision. His original ending has Tracy remaining in bitter enmity towards humanity and quite rightfully wanting the mob to be punished. The dark suits of the studios always conspired against unvarnished truth. They still do.

This film completely infuriated me. (Spoiler) I knew the mob wouldn’t be lynched, but the implication that Joe might serve time instead..that had me completely enraged.

Are you going to do a top 10 list for 2016 video?
@ThomasPollock957 жыл бұрын
Not sure when, but will definitely do one. Currently debating whether to go by UK release dates or US one. Being from UK its probably wisest.
@curioussebastian7 жыл бұрын
Thomas Pollock Yeah you should go by your countries release dates I would say.
