Damn Fool Idealistic Crusader, the studios' bluray transfer restoration departments should hire you to supervise their transfers to make them as excellent as possible. Bravo and thank you for your superb, comprehensive, thoughtful, and insightful reviews

Gosh I wish I could get a job doing that somewhere. I’d do quality control and research for free just to ensure things were done correctly. Thank you for the kind words!!

Great pickup, in-depth Review and appreciation of this WAC Release! What a great year for Blu ray backcatalog releases, especially from WAC and under such challenging circumstances. Glad to know that Warner is back on track for more releases in 2022. My copy of Angels with dirty faces arrived today; looking forward for your review of this release hopefully in the nearer future! Greetings from Germany! Chris

Thank you! I too am trying to keep up with all the WAC discs this year. They’re maintaining such an impressive slate. Same here. Angels has arrived and will definitely get the full review treatment. Trouble is finding the time to watch and review every new arrival!

I find that de-noising audio tracks, particularly optical sources, is akin to DNR to scrub grain away. I dislike both practices, but there is part of me that understands why they do it: most people don't want to see grain or hear hiss/noise, whereas the purists want things to be as original as possible. Some tracks show a kind of 'rounded' sound (the only way I can describe it) from treble roll-off and hiss reduction software that inevitably removes some of the signal as well. Even in the "Ben-Hur" Blu ray I can hear it, particularly in the first meeting of Judah and Balthasar: I can hear 'breathing' or hiss-pumping that sounds like an old Dolby recording with improper calibration. I'd rather have the noise and full-bandwith (or as full as possible with various recording media) as possible.

At this point I wish they would simply provide an "unrestored" audio option. That would solve all of these issues across the board.
