People who met him at a sales yard on a previous day arranged to meet him at the home to buy some paint from him. When they got on the property is when the Ryder truck situation became apparent. They were able to see things up close. Because this was a hoarder property, not many people came onto it like the paint buyers had. They were immediately suspicious of the truck and wrote down the license plate and reported it. The truck was hidden by their property fence and the Famalaros were hostile, so the paint buyers were likely the first people to see the truck situation well enough to become suspicious. This episode kind of glosses over all of that but other documentaries on this case go into better description on the whole situation.
