We are using filter balls for the first time and was wondering does the pressure gauge reading go up when the filter balls need to be cleaned? Plus thank you for making these videos, they are much more informative than the manufacturer's videos.

Yes, that has been my experience. When the pressure starts to creep up, that is the time to backwash and/or clean the filter balls. Thank you, much appreciated!

Another great video from you!! Your excellent instructions have literally saved our summer!! After watching a previous video about the symbols and their function on the pump I tuned to this video and got a clearer understanding how to clean the filtration balls...my pool is now as clear as when we set it up!! Seriously hope Bestway people reach out to you...once again thank you so very much 👏🏼 One great aspect of your videos is you get straight to the point...thank you for that! One question.. sand vs. filtration balls which is your personal preference?

You are too kind! But thanks! I think both can work well. My personal preference is the filter balls just because they are easier to deal with (in my opinion). If you're doing everything right chemical-wise, you can get crystal clear water with both methods.

@@PracticalMechanic ok thank you... we're sticking with the filter balls the remainder of this summer but thought we might switch to sand next year 🤷🏼‍♀️

@@PracticalMechanic also the chemical balance is a work in progress 😭 we're using HTH products this year because they came with the pool...you pinned a comment about Clorox products in another video...we might switch it up next year and try that brand

I read on here that when the pressure gauge goes up then it’s a client’s time to clean the filter balls, what about when the pressure gauge is low? Any idea what thats indicating?

The problem he is using a very small filter I have a sand filter which holds 150 libs not so easy to remove the balls. I did find a shortcut, just take the value head off after you have shut off all water going to pool, and use a hose with a powerful nozzle on it and rinse them off and let water drain out the bottom of the filter, this did work pretty well. Hope this helps, the biggest problem with the balls is you cannot backwash to clean the filter after putting Algicide in So if you don’t clean the balls first, and you jump algicide in, it’s just really affecting your pool.

Do they have to dry first? And if so how long does it take?

No need to dry them, unless you are going to store them for the winter or something like that. If you plan to continue filtering, just put them back in wet. They get wet when filtering anyway. Hope it helps!

Did your shut off valve on port B come with the pool or bought separately?

Ports B came with two small plugs. Port A came with the valve. Hope it helps

Doesn’t the Backwash cycle do the same thing ?

Theoretically yes. Sometimes even after a backwash, you might still see a dirty plume coming from the jet. In that case, it's a good idea to give them a deep clean. Definitely try backwash first: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5WQq3dtm8eioqc

How long until the balls got that dirty? Im wondering how often i would have to clean them? Also, can you backwash the filter with filter balls?

This was after about 1 month. I usually backwash these filter weekly, then clean them out like in this video once a month.

They dont backwash that well, these are great when setting up pool after winter, just clean as per video until pool is clear.

I have this little things floating all over my pool seems like specs of the filter balls .I cleaned my filter balls with bleach can the bleach has caused all the little floaters or it's something more with the chemicals .I have city water .and this is my second year with the pool last year I did not have this issue and I run my pump for 5 hours a day and it's not going away and I always have a skimmer installed

Turn off the pump and set it to the stop (x) setting.

I carry them inside in a laundry basket and just toss them in the washing machine. No need to put them in a bag or pillow case, unless you are drying them for storage.

For people saying just stick with sand don’t realize how dirty water can still be with sand or some cartridge filter types. Pool balls get down to the micron of filtering water. Check your pool water under a microscope with other methods and tell us then just how clean the water really is

I thought about doing this but didn't want to screw em up. I inherited this pool and filter system and I swear they never backwashed and damn sure never actually washed these things. Ugh! So yeah... THANK YOU! Next time they're going in the washer. ❤

@user-si2tr4pv2t and if he were? I use chlorine tabs. The washing machine trick won't work if you use chlorine tabs?
