Same problem identifying the filter strength, my solution is a silver permanent marker on the edge of the filter. Single dot is one. Dash is five. Dot dot dot is a three. A dash dot is 6 and two dashes is 10. It is easy, visible and works for me

I love your videos, over the years since purchasing my Canon 70D, I have watched many of them. You have such and easy manner in presenting them, easy on the eye, easy on the ear and very easy to understand. Oh and not to forget your humour. Another photographer mentioned she uses the Kase filter system so I thought I'd check out the reviews and see if they are worth it. And I'll definitely have a go at Squarespace. Thank you.

Thanks Dinah - I really appreciate that! In a week a fellow youtuber is releasing a kick starter for a new line of filters that are even better than the Kase and at launch they are going to be 1/2 off. So if you are interested stay tuned - I will share more on my instagram and email newsletters next week.

Main issue with step up rings is that they basically prevent you from using the lens hood. If you find using that critical, then you have a problem with the step up ring.

Great comparison video! I own Kase magnetic filter system and love it. You are right about the possibility of them getting bumped off accidentally. However, during a photoshoot, unless you are working in conditions with EXTREMELY sideway-winds (yet to experience), it should hold up pretty well. I went for 95mm system to avoid any vignetting issues for my 82mm wide angle lens. It doesn't look that big when mounted. You have to buy step up ring separately as the kit comes with only a threaded adapter for the size you have opted.

@@photorectoby Sorry for late response, Toby. I recently acquired 16-35mm lens so 16mm is the widest I use. One thing to note is that at 16mm my lens itself shows minor vignetting but filter system works fine.

Nice!! Glad to know those Haida filters aren’t going to break the bank once I get my Sony 14mm GM!! I’m always scared my NiSi filter holder will fall off, It’s nearly happened to me once.I agree 100% with step up rings. I’ve had to do some intense infield engineering to get them apart some times. Now I make sure I don’t tighten on the lens with any force.

A great review with al the pros and cons, I invested in NiSi before the magnetic influx of filters, I can see the advantage of the magnetic but I will stick with the NiSi system as I've has such great results using it.

@ThomasPetzwinkler
@ThomasPetzwinkler 2 жыл бұрын
Let me mention the Kase K9 system. You get the best of all worlds! 90mm magnetic filters ( CPL and both 6 and 10 stop but no 3 stop yet sadly). This is great because there is no vignetting on wider lenses due to it being 90mm though the 95mm set would avoid this to a higher degree. But back to the K9 set. It has a filter holder that works with the 90mm magnetic filters so that you can use the grad filters as well! Just like NISI, the attachment of the holder is something you need to confirm so you don’t drop it but also just as with the NISI if you are careful no issues.

@@sz2474 Yes, you can stack the magnetic filters. You may get a touch of vignetting on the 14-30 at 14 but its a very doable and usable thing.

Great video - Just in the market for my first filters and this has answered a lot of questions, thanks. Just a question about your favourite step up rings!!!! In the Kase system I would need step up rings for my 67mm and 72mm lenses to bring them in line with the 82mm filters I am looking at. But....you mentioned magnetic step up rings for the Kase system.......how do these differ from screw in ones? I thought you screw the rings into your lens and then screw in the magnetic filter holder then add the magnetic filters. From what you said in the vid, it seemed like you could get magnetic step ups to screw into your lens but then add the filters directly to the magnetic rings...without the holder. Is this right? Sorry for the long question but at the price these are I want to get it right!!! Thanks again

I own the kase system it’s really simple system to use the kit comes with 4 filters you need to purchase the screw in base ring to suit your lens once fitted just place the filter or filters directly to the base ring because there magnetic they will hold . Caution the more filters you stack there’s a chance the filters could detach something to be aware of.

@@rhysstatham7407 Many thanks - so this will make the included (oversized) adaptor ring redundant? Just buy the correct sized magnetic step up adaptors instead of the screw in step up rings and then good to go?

Remove Hoya from the title please, if you don't talk about it. I use excellent quality metal step-up rings and had no issues at all, but I can imagine that if one is in a hurry, it can damage the threads easily and/or get stuck somehow. I always turn it CCW until the threads line up, then screw it in gently all the way up to the end, until I feel any resistance. Only the protector glass on each of my lenses are screwed in somewhat tight (but still removable), so they don't come loose when I remove the step-up ring. 😇

I am moving to the Z system soon and one of my lenses will likely be the 14-24S; Looks like Kase or Nisi system make the best filters for my needs. Just seeing the Kase in action makes sense, but the versatility of the Nisi is hard to ignore. This is going to be a tough call.

I have the NISI V5 kit and the big complaint is that the glass is not tinted in the mass, but it is a layer stuck on the glass. I had, because of that, scratches on my 6 stop I am very sad and even disappointed, I will not take a 6 stop of the brand NISI but rather a KASEFILTER or COKIN which are tinted in the mass :) (translate from french with google ) :D
