Just get a basic gravity fed filter that you can slowly filter with. And get a sealable metal jug. For most water you can just filter and boil, then you're good to go. These packets are nice to have as well so you can collect water from dirty sources as an option when water is hard to find. I'd recommend treatment packs, filter, and something to boil with.

The bag doesn’t separate water from dirt, gravity goes. Any bag would do the same and then all you would need is to boil it or use purification tablets. This thing isn’t unique, you could do the same thing with a garbage/shopping bag.

This is a great tool, I have 1 of these with 10 treatment packs in my car. But I also keep a gravity fed water filter and a metal jug for storage/boiling. The P&G treatment packs work great, but I wouldn't bet my life on them, and with drinking water you are betting your life. Honestly, if you can find clean water your best bet is to filter and boil. I would save the treatment packs for dirty water when you can't find anything else still filter and boil after.

Hi, Yea this is just a first step, next you want to run it through a carbon filter to reduce the residual chlorine and then a physical barrier for bacteria. The idea is that you take the water that is clear in the middle and then you can use it in a Sawyer mini (filtershop.co.za/en/sawyer-mini-puribag-combo-pak) or a Water-To-Go bottle (filtershop.co.za/en/500ml-water-to-go-puribag-combo). All these comments are stupid … this thing will for sure save ur life in a bushcraft survival situation … A real question You put less water than most people and i think it advertises for 2.5 gallons but do you think perhaps with less water and the same amount of solution that the water could be a little more purified or maybe the solubility doesn’t change. It would be an interesting metric to test none the less. I would buy this for sure.

We used a worst case water and actually ended up with too much solids for the part of the bag that is used to catch it. With a cleaner water we would have used more but wanted to test worst case.

In the military we had purification tablets. In panama we search for water anywhere including a mud hole. We would fill up our canteen with the muddy water. Put a tablet in there and wait. The water was safe to drink, but it tasted like mud. That's how I hydrated myself for a whole month in the panama jungle
