Hello! long time no see, I've been busy and like my last video showed I have been waiting for my items to arrive in the mail! The fimi x8se by xiaomi is a competitive drone. it is new and has some bugs in the system, when it comes to recording video however it preforms way above its similarly priced competitors. Its the only drone I have been able to use that records usable 1080p video!! 4k is great, of course... 2k is somewhere trailing behind them both. there are a few features still being developed like Flog and white balance modes, hopefully those will be corrected soon!! ill refresh this description if anything changes. Only obvious shortcoming is the tilt in the gimbal. I discuss that at 6:43.

I have the 2020 version of this drone, I'm not sure if this is an option on the older model but mine has an option to calibrate the gimbal to correct the horizon.

Great review mate. Bought one as a January B-day (no, not bidet) gift for someone, as most recent reviews seem to be pretty positive. He used a Phantom IV 2 yrs ago for some video work, so I hope he'll be pleased with this, and any updates have fixed the issues.

Hi Troy. I realise this is an old video but I only came across it now this minute. I'm wondering if you have any thoughts on The x8 se 2020? There are terrible issues with the gimbal tilt. Was this ever actually fixed in the 2018 version?

I did make a follow up video for this drone and at the time I was happy to report that the gimbal tilt has been fixed!! I haven't considered buying x8se 2020. Id imagine Xiaomi has made additional revisions to improve the x8.

Are you sure it uses wifi for the video link? There's a small switch right by the memory card slot, which switches between wifi and proprietary. It is possible that this switch is used only for the control signals, though.

Let me look into that when I saw it on my drone I assumed it was similar to how DJI drones you can either use the remote or you can use your smartphone to control I assumed the switch works the same way but I will find out and get back to you!

x8se has much better camera and flight time. Spark is smaller and has more refined firmware. (spark is more reliable)

Thank you for confirming the manual video setting issue, i thought my drone was defective. Will just have to wait for more updates. Still a great drone if you can get it for $400

I agree. It shows me the ISO is changing but I assume its automatically adjusting the shutter too. it should have an adjustment for both!

This was the most balanced, realistic review I've seen of this drone. The upside is undeniable and the capabilities are intriguing. It's a shame about the gimbal having issues with maintaining a horizontal setting. This video is now almost seven months old. Has your opinion changed on this drone? Is it still the value-leader to beat? I was just about to pick up a DJI Mavic Mini but for the same money, this one *could* deliver more (if the firmware bugs are worked out) . Thanks!

I did release another video on my channel discussing the firmware improvements made to this drone. It has gotten better. I don't know how it compares to the mavic mini. I havent been able to play with that one yet. I do know that mavic mini does not support 4k and DJI has had poor 1080 encoding.

So I'm interested in this as a convenient size model to take pictures of the sunset with. It appears the 4K video is good, range is great, and flight times are about 30 minutes. Can anyone comment on the jpeg photo quality after the newest firmware update? Thanks

jpegs are pretty good. The one I showed in the video is a bit extreme in contrast, for regular scenes it takes pictures equal to an iphone x

I have written many times to Fimi explaining the problem of manual settings of photo and video. With the latest updates, he has gone F-Log. Video does not work the ISO, and in mode Auto makes strange things changing EV. In mode photo so, manual settings do not work, and RAW files are Holy 💩 They sell you functions like Panorama, but this feature has never been enabled. I do not understand why almost nobody talks about the problems of the camera. I'm tired of publitubers. Good video friend! 👍

I want to remind everyone here, that the first reviews of the the DJI drones were not so good. Most of what was causing the problems then, is just whats going on here with the X8. Software. I truly believe that over the next few months, this drone and its software updates will make it a great drone. Thanks and be safe..

How do you expect to make money from affiliate sales of this drone if you are honest? (It is my experience that FIMI is a dishonest company)

I payed for it with my own money. The affiliate links I put in all my videos are there incase someone looking to buy stumbles on my videos. in my experience around 6 out of 10,000 views actually buy something. realistically my channel isn't big enough to reach an audience where id be making a bunch of money. When it comes to higher priced items like this id say the conversion is even lower, maybe 1 out of 20,000 views. With that being said, I think i would sell the same amount though my affiliate link regardless of what I say in the video.

Shame more channels are not truthful, AndyRC is one of those who hyped this quad up and he will never burn his source of free products and always reminds people of the links to buy them in the description, CurryKitten will say when things are crap however although I don't think he's covered this particular unit.

I purchased this drone with out watching any other reviews to keep my mind open and clear when I flew it for myself. I quickly realized the drone is not finished, so i looked to other channels on YT to see of they where having the same issue. I was shocked when I really didnt see anyone talking about it!!

You do not have any video example in this review -- Why make a review without even including a video example? Why upload a video for a 4K drone... using blurry low bitrate 1080p covered in blocky compression artifacts and macroblocking errors? So that we cannot even see the video quality for the drone? Why even bother uploading? This gives no clue about what the drone looks like, it only shows you KZbin's low bitrate for 1080p, so why even upload it if we can't see it?

80% of my views are from mobile. very few smart phones have 4k display. my channel isnt big enough to justify the longer render and upload times to appeal to what might be less than 5% of total viewers. video example: 1:36 - 2:06 I show 4k,2k,2k60,1080 60, and 1080 30 side by side. 4:46 - 4:59 two different color modes. I have a bunch of video footage from this drone, let me know if you want me to upload anything and I can see what I can do!!

@@StrikerBladeCo Personally 1080p gives me a heart attack and I usually shut the video off within 2 seconds. I watch on a 5K display and a 4K phone. It sends a message that the channel is unprofessional and low-effort. Unless it's like a news channel. Just being 100% honest! The best thing we can do with Xiaomi is to fight and make videos and try to get the message out about cinematic rendering. Xiaomi is a great company, but I will not buy their drones because of the cheap sharpening artifacts. They force the sharpening because they think it's a way of cheating to appeal to average consumer of phone.

If you use an Nvidia RTX you won't have problems in Resolve editing 4K H264 or newer H265 based codecs. developer.nvidia.com/video-encode-decode-gpu-support-matrix You need one of the cards with HEVC 8K support.
