@@toolgrey9166 each ball made counts as one point each ball that travels pass the head string or into the "kitchen" counts as a point. The idea is to prevent soft breaks. The problem I have with the rule is that many hard breaks don't comply with this rule. Many matches are flipped because of this rule.

So the 9 ball is on the spot now and when breaking if you only pocket one ball 2 balls apart from cue ball must cross the head string 🤔 🙄 this rule sucks when playing on worn cloth in pool halls hardly any thing moves lol 😆

Yeah kinda true but it speeds up games too. You cant run tournaments with games taking forever cus balls are a clustered up and pool becomes a chess match.

I don't like the rule either but eliminating it isn't going to make for more tactical battles. These players play for a living, to win, not to battle or entertain. If soft breaking is left unchecked, after a while nearly every pro will adopt it. It's more controlled, and self-racking + soft break enables easy patterns at their level (see Orcullo vs Shaw @ Hard Times and DO's 6-pack pattern racking to win - a famous old match). The game will get very boring. Imo we need the rule everywhere, or a ref's discretion on soft breaking rule of some kind. At least the 3-point rule is purely objective. Besides, already with alternate break and short races, tactical battles are limited to, what, a few innings of safety battles every now and then? These are meal ticket races, anyway. For battles, watch 1p or long race (50+) winner-break formats.
