Thanks for the video. Quick question for the feature 1 : if you are recording in D-Log or other flat format, is it working good ? You spoke about that in your vidéo but for someone who struggle with the Color Grading, is it helping to go in the correct way for obtaining a natural look (for example ) ?? Thx

I would suggest adding your D-Log conversion LUT in the inspector window, and then applying the enhance light and color effect. That should give you a really good starting point for a natural look. Hope that helps!

Is there any way to disable the storyline function yet? I do most of my editing in the timeline. So those storylines are SUPER annoying for me. I've searched how to disable them, but I can't find a straight answer.

FCP is based on the magnetic timeline so that is how it works and there is no way to disable it. If the secondary storyline (the grouped clips above the primary storyline) bothers you. You can select all the clips in that group and lift them from the storyline by using the shortcut Option Cmd and the Up arrow. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info. My issue is when I keep lifting clips from storylines, I end up with tons of storylines all over the place and it makes my timeline a mess!

Yeah no way to disable them unfortunately, but like I said, you can lift from the primary storyline (the shortcut is Cmd Option Up) and then you can do it again to lift it from the secondary storyline. That way you will just have the clips on top.

@@Brad_West Thanks for the info. I guess what it comes down to is I don't like the empty storylines cluttering up my timeline (after lifting clips from the storyline). In a large project, I'll often end up with multiple blank storylines, on top of other blank storylines. It's super annoying. I was trained on older FCP versions that didn't use storylines, and to me, those were far superior. I appreciate your explanations.

My main issues are that "add freeze frame" still doesn't work correctly and at Apple they still don't know that Mongolian is a real language. I asked several times to add it to the language list in the captions but even in 2024 (!) it is still not added. This new version of FCP looks more like a beta version.

That's odd! Have you tried using a hold frame instead of a freeze frame?

@@Brad_West Thank you for helping. "Hold Frame" isn't very practical for my workflow. I remark that "Add Freeze Frame" is a problem when I apply it to the last frame of a clip. When I apply it somewhere else in a clip it seems to work. It's a workaround, but is works. Thanks again.

I was hoping you knew how to use a tracker but how to use it when an object is in front of the thing you track and how to handle that to keep the track smooth....also when the track leaves the camera view....I don't know how to deal with both scenarios?

That's a little tricky and in some cases, you have to manually adjust the track frame by frame. You can do that by starting to track, stopping right before the object is obscured and then use your arrow keys to go one frame at a time, each time adjusting the position of the tracking box.

MotionVFX’s mRoto is probably the best option out there for that. Unfortunately there is no built in notion to do that right now.

Hey thanks, Does anybody know why my project icons always show as black when opening my library? FCPX 10.7.2 ? After I open the project it thens makes an icon, but mostly all have black icons and are not "previewing" what is in that project? Is there a fix for this by any chance? Thank you!!

The 'draw mask' feature doesn't work since the 10.8 update. If i select the area with the pen tool, the Final Cut will stop working and won't be able to use any of the features. It works if you press and touch it instead of clicking with a touch on the trackpad, but it's still very slow. Does anyone know a workaround?

Matthew O'Brien discovered a bug with the Trackpad. The bug didn't seem to happen with a mouse. I'd suggest checking out his recent FCP 10.8 videos. You might find the answer you need 😄

Gosh danggit! I had an automatic update on my iMac and got the new update of Final Cut Pro before watching this video. So I wouldn't be able to go back to the previous version in order to create a zip file of version 10.7 would I?

@@thescepterofjudah12 You will be able to if you have other Blu-ray disc writing software, but you won't be able to write to blu-ray directly from FCP. But if you keep a copy of an older version of FCP before updating, you will be able to export the final project from 10.8 and then create your Blu-ray discs from the older version by importing your export.

Yeah you’re not going to be able to get the same results with slow mo compared to actually shooting in slow motion. But there are some shots that it will work on in a pinch.

Before the update if I double klicked on a color correction in the video inspector it jumped directly into the effect. Now after the update it always wants me to rename the color correction/effect. Does anybody know how I can change this double klick setting?

I don’t think you can change it now that you can double click to rename an effect, but if you click on the little color icon on the effect, it’ll open up the effect.

Mine freezes every time I click a title in the viewer to edit the text. Used to do all text editing there no problem. Now I have to edit the text in the text edit window. Also Ken burns effect lags and is feeezy also. I have a Mac Studio with a good build. Anyone else having this?

Are you using a trackpad? Matthew O'Brien experienced bugs in the viewer window when using a trackpad, so I would highly recommend checking out his recent videos.

The same issue here! On-screen controls don't work properly. I can't move the text around with the cursor. It just won't move. Then you release and click somewhere in the viewer and the text jumps to the position where your cursor stopped. Very annoying! Other onscreen controls have the same problem. Yes, I'm using the trackpad which was always perfect. In fact I don't need any mouse at all! Well, this is weird. The first time I see that kind of obvious bug with a simple function. Are they checking what they're releasing after all?! This is a NATIVE SOFT!!

@@Brad_West I don't have a mouse, sorry. I watched the video from Matthew O'Brien that you mentioned. They recommend to turn off the tap-to-click function in the MacOS Settings. Well, I left a comment there: The problem with the on-screen controls and the trackpad could be kinda solved. You must not operate with three fingers but press the trackpad until you click and hold it like that moving the object in the viewer with a finger of the other hand. The same thing with just highlighting the text in the viewer. You press the trackpad until you click instead of tapping it as usual. It works like this for me. Definitely, it's not a solution but it's much better than to turn off the tap to click function.

I just downloaded it today and so far, not too impressed. It’s more of the same that everyone wants instance satisfaction and not put in the work. I tried to color enhance and it was really weak, yeah if you are on a super tight deadline and you don’t have time, not bad, but like anything if you want quality you have to put in the time. Just like jump cuts. When I taught an editing class some years ago, this was not accepted, it was considered lazy and would drop you a letter grade, now that is the norm and is used on every video out there.
