Final Cut Pro is RUINING your iPhone 15 Pro LOG Footage

With the launch of the iPhone 15 Pro comes Apple ProRes LOG, and it's amazing! However, there's a good chance you're using it incorrectly inside of Final Cut Pro for this one reason. This video shows how to properly work with Apple LOG footage inside of Final Cut Pro!

Thanks for the video I was wondering why the Apple log footage was looking way better on Davinci resolve yrgb color managed. On the DVR the footage looks great as soon as it hits the time line. I like using DVR but honestly i do miss the magnetic timeline. Wish DVR would add it or something similar.

In my system, using log footage from my iPhone 15, I have to apply Stalman's lut selecting convert from 2020 to 709 to get the right colors. I don't know if my iPhone's camera is using different settings.

Hey again Dylan! tried downloading the stalman lut but its $5 now so i'm using the included apple one, my question to you is after selecting the lut do it looks kinda over saturated... after changing the input to rec 2020 it seems to fix... is that normal? (input rec 2020 output rec 709) Also, If I wanted to use another lut additionally to give it a certain look whats the best way to do that? do I simply add another custom lut to the video and make sure its above the correction lut like you do with the color wheels at 3:11? appreciate the help dude filming b-roll for a vehicle review and just want to make sure i'm doing things right currently messing around with it as I type this

Does anyone know how to stitch Spatial video clips recorded on iPhone15 Pro (with Vision Pro setting) to create a single video? The 3D video I am looking to make is for viewing on Vision Pro. So during the editing process, I cannot loose the 3D effect. I have tried doing this on Adobe Premier Pro and DaVinci Resolve, which produce a highly distorted footage, when viewed on the Vision Pro. Currently, the only editing allowed for Spatial videos on iPhone15 Pro is to trim the beginning and ending of the video. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hej Dylan🖖 Huge thanks for the video❣️ And I wonder about one thing when loading LUT. The material is recorded in rec. 2020 (this can be seen in the inspector's information). Then you add Custom LUT with Apple LUT and change for another :) Just below are the INPUT and OUTPUT options. And that's my question: why don't you change the default rec 709 to rec 2020 in the INPUT place where you recorded the material? Doesn't it matter? There is a color difference when changing. I'm very interested in it. Thanks for your reply.

But the Apple Log is still going to be applied upon import. You would just be adding a custom on top of the camera lut already applied. You still need to set the camera lut to none.

That Custom LUT IS $5.25 and the download was just a sheet of codes...No zip file with LUT files. I sent them an email, but who knows if they'll get back with me...any ideas on how to attain the zip folder?

Unfortunately, to my knowledge, I don't think you can. Fortunately, if you bring all of your footage in at the same time, you can select all of your shots at the same time, and change them to no longer have the transform LUT all at the same time.

Bro, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro can take 12 bit colour depth photo when ProRaw turned on. But iPhone 14 Pro and 15 Pro can only take 10 bit colour depth photo when ProRaw turned on. Why ? I don't have an iPhone, so can anyone please let me know if you turn ProRaw in 12 megapixel instead of 48 megapixel, can it take 12 bit photos ? I'm curious about this because, 12-bit = 68 billion colours. But, 10-bit = 1.07 billion colours. That's a huge difference. If iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro cannot take 12 bit photos, that seems to be a huge downgrade !

Bro, we love ur videos but I saw this just now and as a colorist using davinci and final cut pro I can totally say that u’re doing it totally wrong bro. You have to start coloring with white balance first, after that you can mess with color wheels to bring the hue and saturation. Than you can apply color curves vs. At the final you apply lut with a % amount desired what u are looking for final touch.

That’s for when you want to use a stylized LUT! But this is for a transform LUT to get your clips out of LOG and into Rec709. Everything you said still applies, it’s just that we are using a transform LUT to do the heavy lifting, as general users don’t understand the precise color adjustments needed to get something from LOG to Rec709.
