Jenn, I totally agree with your assessments. I've got my eye on Keyper at $99 which does a great job. Please make a part 2...love your videos...I've learned sooooo much, and thank you.

The plug-in prices are getting crazy. They’re all 99-300+ now. I remember when they used to be $20-60 like 1-2 years ago. It’s crazy to spend more than the software with 1-2 plugins

Been using fcpx since it came out and bought morphcut. Never knew that fcpx had a native version of it. Also the color adjustments are new to me. Not sure if I would buy the white balance plugin but who know. Lots of great info in your videos Jenn!

To me, Flow Transition always looks like the subject is doing some funky dance move, but trying to be subtle about it. Glad I never bought the plug-in back when it was the only option. I still only use cross dissolve.

FCP's Scene Removal Mask needs a locked off camera on a tripod. Keyper is more flexible. I was using Keyper just yesterday to clean up the walls behind interviewees that had no clean frame. Keyper is perfect for cleaning up backgrounds rather than replacing backgrounds. Not saying it can't be used to replace BG, but that's not its strong point.

Really love these comparisons. Been using FCPX as a first time editor for a year and need practical insights to keep growing. Haven’t once used noise reduction, and bought Keyper based on your previous recommendation. However, i feel like Apple is leaving behind FCPX with table scraps while DaVinci is hosting banquets. I’m so close to switching that I’m not sure if buying these plug ins to keep FCPX is worth it. If I stick with FCPX, what would be the best way to start learning Apple Motion? That program looks seriously intimidating. (Also - jump cuts are great if you can get the timing right. They’re a gift for humorous content!)

Great video - and I agree with your assessments on the plugins I have (MorphCut and White Balance 2 ). Also a big "NO" on the jump cuts - lazy editing. But a "YES" on a part 2!

Your neat video was just an upgrade price , there are 2 prices 1 for HD and another for 4K and I think it it like 99.00 and 199.00, quite expensive but apparently good, I still would use Davinci for noise reduction if I had to since I already own it.

Hi Jenn, great video, could you do a text when the camera is not moving (tripod) to see if keyper or FCPX BG removal gets a cleaner look, i have a feeling that FCPX might be better and precise in that case. Thanks

I feel like I can get away with maybe one flow dissolve per interview in most cases. But I most always shoot B roll that will cover my bad jump cuts, like showing the guy from the side with a big wide shot where we can't see his lips moving. Nice to know about these, though I may need them. The one affect that really blows me away in final cut pro is the audio noise reduction tool. Wow! And yes, I hate jump cuts. It's the difference between amateur and professional.

Neat is US$74.90 for a complete (not upgrade) Home licence. Maximum frame size is 1920 x 1080. US$129.90 buys you the commercial licence, with no limit on frame size and able to use in commercial projects.

This is a great idea, Jenn. Could you perhaps do more of these comparison videos? Would love to see comparisons with 3D tracking, shape, line and animation options (versus Motion perhaps), and colour grading! Keyper's a keeper! The built in screen removal Apple put in just does not cut it!

I get the opposite with Flow vs MorphCut. Flow almost always looks like a dissolve and MorphCut almost always is a clean morph. I use this often so it is very much repeatable and this in the 7 years or so since both were available.
@seecraig
@seecraig Жыл бұрын
Investigating why my experience is the opposite of yours. MorphCut is now at version 2.0.2 so it certainly has gone through updates. It also has three levels of analysis, Default, Medium, and High, and has a Re-Analyze button. I don't recall needing to use them much. I use this effect weekly and sometimes several times a week. It almost never fails me. For the longest time, I'd test with Flow as well. I believe over 50% of the time (possibly more) it looks like a straight cross dissolve. In a few cases removing and adding it fixed that issue. Perhaps the variable is the codec/GOP structure involves as I'm using Sony cameras recording in Long GOP most of the time. Occasionally I use Blackmagic recorded in ProRes so perhaps codec is the variable on the performance. Since my issues with Flow are so frequent I always use MorphCut now and it doesn't fail me. Perhaps contact MotionVFX on this.
