Hey! I have been considering this headphone for quite a while. Perfect timing!

Thanks for the review. Totally agree with the cables. I use aftermarket one from Lavricables. The extended tip 3.5mm connectors as used on the beyer T1, T2, T5 2nd & 3rd gen work nice. I certainly can understand how some may find - how do you say "honky-ness" and more so that @5k rise. I would say aside from recording quality, source synergy comes into play too. I found with the Spring 3 KTE which is much smoother than the Soekris I tried with it made a big difference - also more recently I found that with the Ferrum Oor+Hypsos and Spring 3 together, the D8Kpro really caught my attention and was smoothing out the upper mids into treble while still leaving air and energy. I'm also liking it with the Yggdrasil and v550 too. I still have not heard a Utopia so I have yet to decide which other headphone will be the compliment for the Susvara long-term, but for now the D8Kp is handling the task very well. We don't really need to say much about the bass - It may not equal the 1266 TC in bass quantity but wins in quality with some of if not the best tone and texture I've heard in the TOTLs I've heard which is most except for Utopia, Solitaire P or any Estat.

Very nice review of the TOTL headphone, Brian.

I hope you’ll review the originals as well. And thank you again for this review. :)

Apparently the Baeyerdynamic TP 5’s use a cabling Jack that is highly compatible with the D-8000’s. :) You can find after market cables quite easily and the twist lock feature is not an end all be all. ;)

With all the source gear ive tried so far it seemed lacking but was able to test it on a Zahl HM1 (servo mode = more bass, otherwise too little in quantity) and it was really coming alive there. IIRC it's the same amp HEDD audio used at an event and I can see why. No treble issues on that amp.

I really enjoyed the D8k pro for me it was a good balance of technical performance and fun listening experience. I didn't get the mid range honk or shout but I'm a 1266 Phi TC owner so perhaps my preferences are quite different. The D8k pro and VC are two headphones I demo'd recently that I certainly enjoyed and on the short list to pickup used.

Ears are ears, these are a win for me while the he1000v2 treble burns my ears off unless tubed and with low energy music 😂

The hekv2 treble is very peaky, I eventually sold it and go for Susvara and all the peakiness are gone. It’s slightly cheaper than d8k pro too.

Tip for recording audio ...use a dedicated capture device. Most mics will do the job. A cheap external interface for a laptop gives you so much more control and ease of QA. Yes there's the little headache of syncing the audio up with the video in the editing software afterwards but the control you'll have over the audio quality will be worth it. Something as basic and as cheap as a used Tascam US-122 recording into Audacity (free/easy to use) will do the trick.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm looking into all the options. I have a good mic that sounds great with Audacity. One option I'm exploring is recording the audio and video to separate devices and editing together. Perhaps a project for the summer when classes are done.

@@wavetheorysound another thing that was apparent from this video is that your phone camera looks better than your GoPro - thought it was worth mentioning. Anyway, love the content. Keep it up, my dude!

@@wavetheorysound I would introduce an aural exciter into your audio chain. An aural exciter will enhance the bass tones in your voice.

@@wavetheorysoundrecording the audio separately from the video is always better, as it gives at least two tracks to work with (for backups and integration) and it also means you have way more control on the outcome. I learned it when i was shooting little interviews and documentaries. Furthermore, i think you can improve the video quality by adding some light, as photography (and, by extension, videography) is based on light itself. Fun fact: the squeal was way more intense and audible on my ipad air loudspeaker than my senn pxc 550 mk 2!

Well, how would you rank the 8000 pro vs a Stax you reviewed? In detail, especially?

no more HP testing with your G-111?

Didn't use it for this one. In general I don't many are going to (or at least they shouldn't, IMO) drive $4k cans with $500 amps. I bring out my big guns for the big guns. G111 will still be used for mid-fi and lower hi-fi cans.
