Hi Silver State Trains , sorry to see the layout gone. Moving is a hard job. Me and wife are going to be moving in the near future. We have been here for 37 years it’s not going to be easy. But I agreed to the move if I could have my own train room and she agreed to my idea. We’re planning on getting a modular home and the Lady helping us is making sure I get my train room. I just got layout back running a couple of weeks ago. Been breaking in some new locomotives. Everything is running smoothly. If you have to start out with a small layout it’s fine. Because we all just want to run trains. My layout is a 8 x 4 . I plan to add to it. Good luck with your move and your future plans for a new layout. I’ll be looking for some updates in the future. I’m not going anywhere. You and your family have a very Merry Christmas. Thanks for sharing. Have a good week. 😎😎 👍

Glad to hear things worked out for you. 4x8 is a good size. I’m sure adding to it in the future will be enjoyable as well. I will be starting small at first but I have a big build plan which may start sooner then Later. We shall see. Merry Christmas to you and your family as well. Thank you!!

Oh boy, if I had actually started a KZbin channel to document my N scale layout build last year I would have lost all my subscribers already. Life just happens and gets busy, family always has to come first but we're always here to share the hobby and we will still be here when you come back!

lol. I hear that. Life truly has a way of being super busy. I’m ready for it to calm down. I appreciate it. Hopefully will be back at it soon.

sorry to hear you had to move at such short notice, hoping all is well and this works out as a better situation for you and your family. I am not going anywhere, I will be here when you get around to being able to get back to your KZbin channel, but in the meant time, take care of yourself and loved ones. See you soon!

Thank you for the kind words. The move went well, just was a lot of work. Hope to back up and running soon.

Thank you!! Me too. Have some plans just need time to get them going. Little by little though. One thing is for sure, if my plan works out, it will be a big layout!!

My suggestion for the outlets Is to do conduit on the outside of the walls. It’s the easiest. If you wanted it cheaper could use BX cable. For lights I would buy the shop lights from Home Depot 11$ ea crew then to the roof and plug them into an outlet screwed into your light socket. That is what I did in my basement. Cheap.
@Silverstatetrains17 күн бұрын
Thanks for the tip. The lights I had on my last layout were pretty reasonable and plugged into one another. Super easy. I plan on adding power to my shed so should make things easy. We shall see.

Hi Stephen. Starting over is a great time to put into practice what you have learned from previous builds; e.g. make bigger holes for your power bus wire! Remind us about the reason for the move.
@Silverstatetrains17 күн бұрын
This is true. I think I may just staple the bus wire under the layout next time. It hurt losing all that expensive wire. I found a home on land I just could not pass up. Life long dream. We only have one shot at life and I wanted to give it a go.

Starting over is always a pain in the ass... It's nice that you could make the move before the holidays. Something you may want to give some serious thought to is making your next layout modular. If you're ever faced with a situation like this again they're so much easier to tear down and even reconfigure to fit the new spaces or expand. But you and the family have a good holiday and I look forward to what you come up with next!
@SilverstatetrainsАй бұрын
So true. This was a rough move. Still dealing with issues but we are getting there. I will have to look into the module builds. My plan thus far are another permanent build but noting is set in stone. Have a good holiday as well!!

You are going to have to do a multiple layer layout.
@SilverstatetrainsАй бұрын
If my dream of building g a large 200 sqft shed comes true, I would build a single level layout with different elevation. That should be more than enough track for my needs. I forget what they are called but the round track ladders needed to get from one level to the next I hear are problematic though that is hearsay at this point. Could just do a drop track but not sure of the need at this point. Once I start designing the track maybe I will see things differently.
@dkaustin98Ай бұрын
How about next time you build the layout in modules that are bolted together. I have moved so many times that it is necessary to design and build a moveable layout.
@Silverstatetrains17 күн бұрын
I will have to watch some videos on modules. Not sure I am going that way but does not hurt to look. Thanks for the idea.
@dkaustin9817 күн бұрын
@@Silverstatetrains Think of it this way. If you had to, could you get the layout out of the house and into a U-Haul if you were required to move. How would you design it so you could?
