This is one of the best debates I have witnessed. Sure, there was no decorum and ideas were being debated left and right in a cacophonous style but that was because the topic made no sense. But out of disorder came order, and out of the cacophony there appeared several kernels of wisdom and truth. Are the issues getting mixed up here? There are at least three different strands being discussed, and each collides with the other, only to spread more obfuscation. First, there's the issue of social media playing a 'disruptive' role and giving power in the hands of the commonman (or whoever can make use of it). Secondly, there's the issue of elected politicians massively manipulating the debate, in part by leveraging the social and traditional media, but not just this. Thirdly, from the debate above, one can see an attempt to deflect attention from the role played by such politicians in today's world by their supporters. One (almost convincing) argument that comes up is about the old elite (specially the media) being upset by the changes. This sounds true. But, look more closely and it's clear that there's a new elite-in-the-making fighting the old-elite. The cynical game continueth....
