Final Dumpster Update ! Shutdown the business!!!

Video going through why I shutdown my dumpster business. It was a heck of a journey. Learned a lot over the almost 3 years I was in business. Was able to gain a lot of useful experience, meet new friends and had a good time doing it. However all good things must come to a end.

I think that is why a lot of guys are selling. It ain't easy money. Still gotta put the work in. I did 16hr days for 2yrs until I built my business up. Definently was getting burned out. Instead of running back to my 6 figure job, I chose to go all in on myself. My sales have doubled since then, making more than I did at my 6 figure night job and home for dinner every night. Still ain't easy, especially when you are used to a steady paycheck, but so far I think I made the right choice. Having all my equipment paid for definently helps take some stress away. I paid my insurance at the beginning of year and have very little overhead or bills to pay as a Owner-Operator. Best of luck with your other venture. I don't blame you. You can't work 24/7. Got to enjoy life while you can.

Yeah the business didn't fail and I'm 100% sure the longer I kept at it the more it would make. However to make what I'm making at just my main job I would need a second truck and another driver maybe even 3 trucks. The excavation side of things now that I'm not doin dumpsters is growing like crazy.

Thanks for the tranparency and sharing your thoughts. I have watched your vids from the begining. I like you input on excavation. What type of jobs are plentiful in excavation? What equipment do you need to get at a minimum? Can you rent untill you build volume and cash reserves?

You really need to find what you like to do. I personally like more the land clearing then digging holes. Also isn't a ton of people that do it around here. You can rent but you need charge more for the job. Rental skid steer might be $700 for 2 days. My payment for the month is $1000. Doesn't take many jobs before the numbers look better buying. The excavator I use more than the skid steer. Next year I'm going to look at doing Mulching and more 1 person jobs so I don't need to always have help with me.

@@AZDESERT2024 yeah easier said then done. I looked for a month no luck. Also older truck someone beats the crap out of it blows it up now I have to pay to get a 2nd truck at 80-100k plus repair costs the of first one. Guy damages property, gets into an accident ect now I’m getting sued… and truck is damaged or wrecked. Too many scenarios that ended badly starting out. I worked hard to build a name and brand and the wrong hire in a few weeks can completely ruin that.

Wonder if you could have found a driver or partner to run the dumpsters while you focus on other stuff. If you could take in $10K after profit, it's like earning 10-15% on your money.

Looked for a driver, no luck. This was at $25 an hour. Then I got thinking if the first month they crash my truck then I'm pretty much screwed. Likely would have made 2-3k per month after paying them on average. The other issue I have is I ran it out of my house and with the traffic it was only a matter of time before the town shut me down as well.

@@outdoorzwithcraigdz I hear you on the the headache. What kind of jobs do you mostly do with the excavator? Demo work or more landscaping? I'm surprised you can charge that much in upstate NY.

@@jameshack485 Now I do mostly land clearing, drainage, grading jobs. For example I cleared 1/2 acre last weekend it was $3500, everything left on site, no hauling was done in 12 hours... Spent $200 in fuel. Would take me 15 or so rentals to make that and probably 30-40 hours of time.

Tried that for $25 an hour couldn't find anyone. Plus comes the headache of in 3 years I never hit or damaged anything. First month out they wreck the truck now im out of business or have to buy a new truck.

huh ? How rich I am lol ? If you got that out of the video then your not paying attention and just skimming through. Its about the Journey, I stared with a Chain saw and a splitter on this channel cutting firewood in that same area. Now I have 200k in equipment and a 40k Garage to store it in. Its not easy work, no one handed me anything. You have to put in the time and bust your butt. And I'm not rich by any means and the journey is far from over. This is to give some of you hope that you can make it in business. I give out free advice, Free contracts far from an ego trip.
