I started playing this game on PS3 in 2013. Now I've played it on every other platform: PS4, PS5, PC, and Xbox Series. It's been quite a journey! I'm sure I must have pissed off lots of players when I started. Not only was I on PS3, which struggled to keep up with animations in real time, but it was my first time playing an MMO, so I didn't know what the hell I was doing. And on top of that, I was playing on mediocre wi-fi. 😅

Great video, only played a few hours of the beta on Series X and personally didn't have performance issues outside zone transition frame drop. Legitimately curious about the profanity filter issue. Personally played a good number of MMOs on Xbox Black Desert Online, Tera, Warframe and never noticed/encountered this problem before. Don't understand what the issue is regarding FFXIV because I'm pretty sure every other MMO on Xbox isn't contending with it.

I spent an insane amount of time in FFXI on PC...hundreds of days of playtime, so said the game. Edit: While playing I had no idea the PS5 version of FFXIV dropped that many fps at 4k, VRR is amazing to me!

Definitely been enjoying the hell out of FF14 since it dropped on Xbox and just barely got to the first expansion the other week. Performance wise, it has been a touch iffy at times (had two crashes happen, but that’s like for literal hundreds of hours played), but there also was the other weird tidbit of “please restart your Xbox” error too. It was a bit of a rough launch (and could be rougher when the newest expansion drops soon), but overall it has been a delight to play the game and feel a touch bad to know how much I’ve been missing out. That and how I likely won’t be touching the latest expansion for probably a good couple of months (which is fine since I can take my time with what’s come before that).

@@qwerty-dm8gr it’s weird certainly. Not sure why but it happened when I was typing and when it got sent, the game crashed. Once at the end of a dungeon when I was sending a gg (was able to get back into it fast enough thankfully) while the other was searching for an item on the market. Works great otherwise outside of what was said in the video between the longer dungeon load times and the ?? ?? Parts

the dynamic resolution scaling is a poor mans implementation of what other games have been using for years, but I did find a use for it. My 1060 based laptop when in battery mode really looses a lot of its power and ff14 is very hard to drive at even 30fps. However turning drs on and letting it drop several internal resolutions allows me to get a smooth framerate and still have enough resolution to enjoy playing. It would have been much nicer if there was a manual slider.

Okay, let's get the Xbox Chat Filter problem out the way first; It's Unacceptable. I've seen people trending with screenshot proof that they've been BANNED from Xbox because of mentioning the phrase 'Free Company' in messages, which is the name given to the guilds system in-game. In addition, the filter works on ALL chat text, including NPCs in events and in-game dialogue. This is frankly embarrassing on Xbox's part and the filter frankly needs to be removed instead of redressed. Yeah, that XBSS wait time in content is not good. 20 seconds for a revive from some party members can make or break a moment in those later fights; If you're a caster DPS capable of reviving your healer, your party's likely wiped by the time your healer regains control. CBU3 will likely be looking at this for Dawntrail.

Thinking about it, for a particularly intensive stress test you could leave effects on and join an Aether datacentre hunt train on-content. That'll be a lot less static. That'd be hundreds of players actually fighting a thing.

Very nice video and thanks for showing the goods and the bads - we all should be beneficted. But I wish to point a very great issue at the PS5 version: when you connect the console to a 1080p screen (a very common case worldwide), the resolution toogles do nothing. The game will always run at 1080p regardless. Since FXAA is so bad, it would be great to have a supersampling option. Thanks.

Just a tip for future players: once you’ve seen all the special effects each job does, there is nothing wrong with turning off OTHER player effects to make it easier to keep up with mechanics.

Yes, there is. If you set them "Off" you will not see some of things that healers do like healing bubble. To see those you have to set them to "Limited".

The HUD is actually highly customisable. Try searching for vids on KZbin. You can go really minimalist

Yep the HUD is very customisable, you could play HUDless if you wanted to and things like flying text and damage numbers can be turned off.

Balmung benchmark is my personal overclocking/undervolt benchmark, FFXIV is quite sensitive to any kind of instability to being with, going to Balmung Quicksand push it to the absolute maximum immediately.

A perfect review of the game on Xbox and exactly how I feel about the game myself. As a player of FFXIV on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X, I can totally agree with all the points in regards performance, loading times and the 'profanity' filter. As Xbox is my main platform, I didn't hesitate to buy the full experience there and jump right back into my character to play. The performance is identical to the PS5 version for me, but I also noticed the weird loading times within instanced content which is very inconsistent for me. At some times it is very quick (equal to PS5/PC), but some other times, it is just very long, similar to what MLIG described during the video. It's either a weird server interaction between client and server or something off with the game version itself, but definitely something that needs to be addressed. When it comes to the 'profanity filter', it is for me definitely one of the more distracting issues I have noticed, but thankfully one I can workaround by using Discord voice chat via Xbox and using my phone for interaction with friends. Sometimes, in-game is still used, but thankfully the instances of the filter picking up words haven't been too crazy for me. Overall, I still enjoy playing on Xbox, but I really hope that those issues can be worked out for the release of the Expansion in 6 weeks.

I bought a series X about a month ago as a companion to my PS5 and Switch. Installed FF14 on it to test out the performance, and immediately found the weird “profanity” filters and their weirdness. Also experienced the odd variable load times in teleporting and dungeons. Needless to say, any thought I had about getting Dawntrail for XBox as well were smashed into oblivion. I’ll stick to the PS5, I chat with my FC way too much to deal with this silly filtering.
