What gets to me is that Hideo is making a game about making connections with other even when you feel apart, and his whole journey to create his studio was him feeling alone but then all the connections he's made over the years supported him and gave him what he needed to create his achievements. There's the whole part of his team not understanding the game and questioning the appeal but they still went with it and kept at it until they found themselves having fun. It's just so beautiful that Kojima couldn't get a loan because he had no actual results, but then he found a banker who was a fan of his work and gave him the loan. When he wanted a certain building he was denied because his company wasn't publicly traded, but one of the owners was a fan so he was allowed to get the office. The power of inspiring people.

The fact that Hideo Kojima ran into every possible wall and still managed to climb over it and thrive goes to show how passion and kindness go so far in making it. His vision and connections built upon each other to help him achieve success, and because of that we got to experience more of his work while reinforcing that very image of him. This world is full of struggle and no people, whenever there is creative work at play the risk is always substantial. Because people *have* to like it, otherwise your value and worth gets thrown out the window, unlike if you were to help create medicine or food. What we can get from this tale is that no matter the circumstance, as long as you have a passion and strive for more, never let go of it even within your toughest struggle, because there are others like you who will see the value of your efforts and together bring forth your true potential. A great video!

Not to mention the multi-hour long cutscenes that could be entire feature-length movies themselves (not everybody's cup of tea, I get it, but I love them.) He really does push the medium forward, it's crazy to think this was his vision since the NES days. So ahead of his time, but luckily, technology caught up to him. Can't wait for DS2 and OD.

Why did he announce Physint so early then? Realistically the game will be released around 2030, or even later. Fanboys believe Death Stranding was a success, and Kojima is firmly standing on the ground with Sony. It does have a similar vibe. tho with Death Stranding there's no way to send messages, it's just possibly helpful objects or structures. The messages in Dark Souls/ Elden Ring are great and inside jokes are birthed from it but it's so flooded with ppl making jokes that it's most of what you see rather than help. I'd love to see more game do these kinds of mechanics. p.s. I was gonna abbreviate Death Stranding to DS but realized we're also talking about Dark Souls and that would be very confusing. There's a surprising number of media that can be abbreviated to DS.
@simpson67003 ай бұрын
the community system is wild. it's so much more than messages or bridges. the more you do for the community the more buildings of others you see. everywhere a player walks the server keeps track of and removes more and more rocks the more players walk there, till eventually you have a smooth player created trail, only that most players won't know that they are creating it. you can find packages players dropped, which you can deliver for them, or return to them. you can leave behind messages that will give others a little stamina boost, or soothe BB.

@cleverowl5595 kinda generic take. I know about the problems with genetics in MGS1, but the story is still alright, gives something to think about, and has *very* cool moments and even lines. And MGS2 is simply majestic. Conspirology is just a backdrop for the awesome and really deep story. The final conversation with AI is simply a masterpiece. And I'm not a big fan of MGS3. The thing is, MGS1-2-3 ofc all are very flawed story/scriptwise, but have something to compensate their drawbacks in the same time. The latter games simply have nothing in this area. Sorry, but MG2 doesn't come close to these three games simply because of its volume and its antiquity. It's too short, simplistic, and nothing but a collection of clichés. It's fun sometimes, but not more. To set it against later games favourably is really strange. They are much more sprawling and mature, like it, or not.

Yes, it's set in a post-apocalyptic world, but there’s a strange sense of peace that washes over me while playing. There’s something calming about just delivering packages, moving through the quiet, desolate landscapes. It almost feels meditative at times. One of my favorite aspects is the connection you feel with other players, even though you never actually meet them. Finding a ladder or a bridge someone else left behind when you’re struggling is such a simple but powerful reminder of hope. Even in a world that can feel isolating and challenging, you realize you’re not completely alone. I get that the story is hard to wrap your head around, and the gameplay isn’t for everyone. But if you can embrace its slower pace and give it time, you might end up loving it like I do.

First of all as an obvious metal gear fan, and someone who loves themes that Kojima explored, death stranding really did had flaws but not at mechanics at gameplay ironicly at acting story pacing, and world building logic, it litteraly needs to its own video to explain this but for short i think sam uniting world without any ideology or belief sounded really wrong and illogical, people change their entire mindset just because you help them ? at the game rather than we are uniting people we are litteraly just giving internet connection to locals, funny enough Sam also doesnt give any emotions properly he is mostly has one facial mimic ( why da heck im here "look") and almost nothing else, i can say the same for rest of the cast too, i really didnt like the acting i cant see any mimic properly and even when they do it looks strange ( i think they are trying to give A24 movies strangeness feeling which looks ridicilous ) , characters just looks strangely too screen, and omg the dialogues, does kojima realy thinks anyone even the greatest minds talk like this in real life, people at death stranding does not have character but concepts and at a game that you dont have a enemy to defeat ( I know rigs exist but he is not the main concern ) and main focus of the game is the people we meet, i think it really fails to do so, I can understand the fustration of people who says they didnt like gameplay but i think they need to give it a chance and gain access to main map of the world ( i think its at 3rd or 4rd act of the game ) which becomes something very extra ordinary and i have never seen before.

He really screwed over David Hayter with MGSV, with David only finding out he was passed over on the project in favor of Kiefer Sutherland after he phoned someone on the production team and asked if they were going to set up recording sessions. Kojima never even told David in person or apologized. Furthermore, he made Hayter audition for every single game featuring Snake, even though the character had been synonymous with Hayter’s signature voice. Again, great visionary but I think he prioritizes his vision and getting renowned actors in his projects far more than being loyal to his existing staff.

Kojima isn't suddenly going to start making movies in his 60s. He has three games coming in the next couple of years. DS2, OD and the new stealth ggame. He'll be near 70 when hes done assuming they all come out with 2 years of each other. @Sam-lf3hn

Great video..I haven't played D.S and have only p!ayed MGS 1 (PS1) so don't really have any experience of his larger body of work but he seems really grounded - I like that. The part I really appreciated was about the like system and his choice to make it a solely alttuistic mechanic, rather than it being done for player reward. We all need to be kinder to one another in general, and this was a nice little touch to spread some no strings attached good vibes. Cheers Glen 👍

By nature video games are designed so that you play them then throw them down, Death Stranding is different. I've been playing since lockdown and haven't finished by choice, I have logged a whopping 2000 hours in Death Stranding on very hard, the gameplay loop is one of the best.

''mixed reviews'' 80-85 metacritic scores ain't mixed. Any highly rated game will have reviewers that claim it's the worst thing ever made.

Rather not trust metacritic in general. I played games that are fantastic in 70 score while vice versa with the high score.

It was mixed, they deleted all of the negative reviews before the game awards to justify it being there. Kojima has a bit of a history getting anything negative about him deleted.

This game really was a slow burn for everybody. We all, including myself, bemoaned the game as a "walking simulator." It's tedious and strange, and the core game play involves just walking around, but...then you understand that the game is the hike. It's not an escape from reality, but a celebration of it. It's one of the strangest games ever made with an extremely bizarre narrative. No wonder everyone reacted the way they did to the concept, because it was so alien. I'm glad it exists.

I dont think a have ever played a game that means as much as Death Stranding. It honestly puts the whole gaming industry to shame that so few games even comes close having the simple meaning that Death Stranding does. I recently replayed it after not having played it since i completed it when it first came out. I realised how much of my personality, ideology and stance on issues comes from this one game. If it is not objectively the most meaningful game ever, i’m pretty sure it is the most meaningful game to me.

Kojima is a hack, he cannot write, he cannot do art, he cannot do messaging properly. And he's totally clueless about science (physics, biology etc) and philosophy. Death Stranding is a laughable hacky contrived mess.

The premise has never been explained well enough for it to make sense. It seems random, out of left-field, nonsensical. the premise of a TV show, movie, or video game needs to make sense for me to want to get involved.

Really stupid thing with this Amelie and Last Stranding event. How the hell some lass in a red dress living in the otherworld can make the real world die? Really senseless and bs plot. 'Extinction Entity', my ass. Kojima is a total hack.

This makes me want to buy Death Stranding now to support him and his studio. 5 years (and counting) of chronic environmental violence have given me C-PTSD, forcing me to constantly have to distract myself with a torrent of stimuli to avoid the extreme fear and violence. Death Stranding, as far as I could see, is a pretty calm game, it doesn't seem to be something that will help my anxiety. But after seeing how 99.9% of Japan collectively threw him in the dirt despite being the most renowned gaming director in the industry by far and for good reason (in an industry that makes more money than all media and music combined), after seeing that culture try to stifle all his life's dreams and potential to improve humanity's lives out of pure uncooperative prejudice... Studios like Kojima seem like something you have to proritize supporting even if it hurts you. Because the consequences of letting this life-ruining economy keep it's undeserved power will be far more painful than any other event. Do the math, trying to understand human suffering even if you haven't experienced much. One traumatizing event is less painful than a slave's lifestyle in a lifetime. Some personal hardship is not as bad as an entire society deprived of self-control for wellbeing purposes, if for no other reason than that society would create millions more cases of hardship in time. The economy lost the power necessary to improve it's collective behaviors enough to stop it from cannibalizing itself. Supporting independent studios like Kojima's, workplaces that are not fully controlled by a corporate contract solely interested in maximal greed, is the only way to fight back this tenacious anthropophagy.

Its a great game. Keep in mind though while the game is definitely on the less heavy combat side theres still some combat and can definitely be a disturbing game. But its still a very peaceful game that focuses more on traversing the landscape and overcoming environmental obstacles rather than other people. its also reinforced through gameplay with its asynchronous co-op feature where tools you leave behind can be used by other players, even if you never physically see them in game.
