Final Fantasy 16 is not a Final Fantasy game

Final Fantasy 16 is feels like an entirely different series at times. I want to discuss and talk about why I think Final Fantasy 16 is not a Final Fantasy game as it picks and chooses bits and motifs from Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 10, Final Fantasy 15, etc. But it is something that is also unique entirely, making it the most different Final Fantasy to date.

Final Fantasy XVI is the sixteenth main installment in the Final Fantasy series. It was released worldwide on June 22, 2023 for the PlayStation 5 as a timed exclusive. Thanks for the vid, It's good to see fair criticism of this game-- but this game really resonated with me regardless in ways that so many other games don't. What really shined for me was the voice acting and soundtrack-- really added to the emotional weight of a lot of important scenes in the game. Not to mention the combat was so addictively fun! Absolutely my GOTY.

They dropped the ball so hard on Odin and Ultima; there are a lot of minor issues in the game, but if you fix those two characters/ the ending, the game becomes like a 9 for me. I can look past mid-side quests and lackluster RPG systems, but when you faceplant a story that hard... that cannot be dismissed so easily.

How to turn FF16 into a true FF instead of a DMC with an FF veneer? 1 - Each summon will grant Clive a different job since he is a one-man army. 2 - Each job forces Clive to use a specific type of weapon. 3 - Each weapon has a specific type of damage and range. The damage types have affinity with the physical characteristics of enemies (similar to the Ys franchise): Slash: soft skin; Pierce: insects and flyers; Strike: tough skin or armor. Elemental: elementals and ethereals. The range types are: close/mid/long. Below is the list of jobs per summon, containing the damage and range of each weapon: Ifrit: Warrior | sword | slash | close; Phoenix: Archer | bow | pierce | long; Garuda: Assassin | daggers | pierce | close; Ramuh: Mage | rod | elemental | long; Titan: Monk | gloves | strike | close; Bahamut: Dragoon | lance | pierce | mid; Shiva: Thief | boomerang | slash | long; Odin: Knight | heavy sword | slash/strike | mid. It would be possible to equip 3 summons for extra abilities, but the main one would determine Clive's job and consequently his weapon. Summons do not influence the elemental damage that the weapon can cause. In fact, there will be an evolution tree only for elemental damage and negative status for both attack and defense. Once these abilities are learned, they can be placed in the available slots on each weapon, similar to the Materia slots in FF7. For example: Sword A: ATK +10, 1x elemental attack Sword B: ATK +15, 1x status attack, 1x status defense Sword C: ATK +5, 3x elemental defense, 3x status defense Sword D: ATK +15, 2x elemental attack, 3x status attack Sword E: ATK +50 Assuming Clive has the following learned abilities: 10% ATK fire, 25% ATK ice, 50% DEF lightning, 10% ATK poison, 25% ATK paralysis, 75% DEF poison. If Clive has Sword A, he can only equip 10% ATK fire or 25% ATK ice. If he has Sword B, he can only equip 10% ATK poison or 25% ATK paralysis and 75% DEF poison. As for the other swords, the player will decide whether to focus on physical damage only (Sword E), elemental/status defense (Sword C), or elemental/status attack (Sword D).

@@b1bblywell... the plot revolves around elemental gods but there isn't elemental damage in the gameplay...WHY!? Pure incompetence in my opinion. I just showed you a simple example of how to implement it, but they were too afraid to force the player to even think...

C feels pretty low. Like you said the highs are really high. I feel like it easily deserves a B+. In my opinion it wasthe third best game that I played this year.

I'm glad you liked it a lot! The pit falls were a bit steep for me after taking the time to reflect how I feel but I still enjoyed the game for what it was. It just kinda felt like a slap in the face from what I was expecting. No harm to the game and again, I'm glad you like it a lot! What other games topped ff16 for you in 2023? ☺️

@@b1bbly Baldur's Gate 3 and Remnant 2 topped FFXVI, for me personally. I never got a chance to play Alan Wake 2, but I heard it was good. I'm glad FF16 won the music award at the game awards. FF16 music is top notch, should have won accessibility as well imo.

@b1bbly Absolutely would recommend Baldur's Gate 3. It's an amazing game. I'd only recommend Remnant 2 if you like soulsbourne games. If you want more generic recommendations, Here's a quick list of some of my personal favorite games: Elden Ring; Subnautica; Deep Rock Galatic; Hunt Showdown; Omori; Final Fantasy XIV; Yakuza Franchise. Those are some of the games that I've played that I genuinely recommend to people to see if they like. They are all good, but of course it is all preference.
