The last part of Dancing Mad where you fight Kefka. I've added 2 pictures of God Kefka aswell to make it less boring, lol.

I interpret it as more as Kefka's human side coming to him, like his origin story is that he was a failed subject of magitek experiments which fucked his mind, but when you are a god that can do anything, there is a lot of time to reflect, and seeing all these people (the protags) with a reason to live unlike him who is too far gone to return to a healthy life, I feel like he dosen't just feel annoyed which he acts like, but also a feeling of, sadness mixed with slight envy. Maybe I am looking too deep into it and trying to make him more intresting as I found Kefka a little too overhyped, but I consider it headcanon for me.

The beginning of this (And I think the arpeggiations at 1:27 if my ears aren't failing me) and the beginning of Tarkus by Emerson Lake and Palmer are the most iconic uses of quartal harmony ever and this is not up for debate don't @ me. 0:31 Kefka unleashes all of his fury and contempt for what still remains of this dead world, his wrath coming in full to all who dare challenges his power. In a blaze of glory, he descends from the heavens for his last stand. 1:54 Even through all Kefka has accomplished, he has been defeated. He has nothing left to say. All of his hate cannot save him now. In a world of chaos and destruction, he has also been utterly destroyed. A fitting end to the one who created a monument to nonexistence.

I've been gaming since 1986. The more time that goes by the harder it is for me to be in the right mood to go back and play a game from the 90s. On the other hand, enough time has gone by to see what is a classic from that era now. And FF6 still remains my GOTC. The music, the characters, the final boss, the epic ending, it's a special game. It's one of two 90s games that we included music from, in London Symphony form, for our wedding reception in Italy. The other was Chrono Trigger.

This is without a doubt one of the best final boss tracks ever composed. It really captures finality and despair in a way that no other final boss track ever has. If you listen to it carefully, it articulates Kefka's world view. It starts off maniacal... exactly how Kefka presents himself to us for most of the game. But it eventually progresses into a slow, sad despair-like melody. This reflects the true nature of a clown. No matter how silly they act or how much make up they've put on, they're just sad people who wish the world was different. Eventually, the song shifts back to its rapid maniacal pacing with Kefka's laugh welcoming us back to it. This symbolizes the only thing a person can do at the end of the day. No matter our grievances for how things are, all we can do is just laugh and accept it. The world is the world it needs to be. We can't do anything about it. All we can do is laugh and stop taking it seriously. Even when you've become a God, it's the only reasonable thing to do. At the core of it, that's the song's message. If you pay attention, the shifts and progression are conveying the conclusion of a man who finally got to rule the world... and still, his best option is to just laugh. Okay I'm looking way too into this. I just really like the song lmao

I feel like the first part is madness articulated and danger he posed for the world and threat and and second part is the madness at its maximum and how unstable and last part is the sadness followed by a sad laughter at which his loneliness and emptiness is never met and longing. I remember watching a video of review of kefka and talking about final confrontration his clown act slips and sadness is on his face his loneliness shows and his sadness he wants to have that companionship and after he murdered gestahl he only spiraled as a god and got worse and death released him from this treaterous existence.

He might not be the strongest Final Fantasy boss these days or even canonically but he is definitely still the most evil one. People might say that other FF bosses actually achieve their goals but I would say that most of the bosses in the series didn't achieve their goals 100%. Kefka did. Everything that came after was just because he was bored and the damage he caused would take thousands of years to finally repair.

I love how Nobuo threw Kefka's mischievous little theme in the midst of all the chaos, followed by his despair and impending doom. It's brilliant. You almost, almost, feel sympathy for the maniac, but he can't be left alive, he's too far gone, and committed far to many crimes. It's tragic really, Kefka's life, but this battle and his destruction is justice.

@hootllum The depressing part is more in reference to Kefka than to the party members, a reflection of his own impending destruction, and laughing in the face of it. His tower has been overcome, the warring triad defeated, his strongest incarnations beaten (tiers 1-3 and it's grand music); all that's left is himself. Life is meaningless in his eyes even his own life, that's the sadness; it's a concept he embraces fully even onto his defeat, so he dies laughing in the face of existence.

Actually Sephiroth even became mightier after Final Fantasy VII. He was weakened after the battle against Cloud but he still did not want to be reborn as a new person so while the lifestream succeeded in absorbing some of his memories Sephiroth linked the core of his spiritual existence to Cloud's memories. That means he can always regenerate and that is also the reason why he says "I will ... never be a memory./Watashi wa ... omoide ni wa naru nai sa."

I call him a "Mage" because he uses many spells. He has not really the mage job class. And I said "not not" because your post sounded like Sephiroth knows almost no magic. But with the two "nots" I have said that he actually does. The only spells he cannot cast from the Ancient's knowledge are Holy and Meteor which are not like Holy and Meteor in other Final Fantasys, even more powerful than Zemus' Meteor, real story spells with increcible power.

Sephiroth is also a mage. He just has also his swordsman skills to have a stylish way to fight but his magical and psychic abilities are even greater. And in the real story Sephiroth does "not not" know any spells since he has absorbed the Cetra's knowledge. The only spells he cannot use without Materia are the sealed ones which are an important part of the story. So don't listen to that guy who just tries to argue with you by saying "Kefka became a god" - Sephiroth actually did, too.

@hootllum I think that that depressing part is fro when you beat him Like, you stopped him, and yet all you have to look foward to is the wasteland that he made. and only your grandchildren will see any significant change for the better

@hootllum I doubt that, not by me anyway lol. You should get it though, it's one of the best games in the series, well worth any price, which isn't alot for FF6 these days. It's bound be on online shopping sites like Amazon or eBay. (Y)

@MrCheckersmcgee Well, I've played the American version of this game for the SNES. It was called Final Fantasy 3, so your argument is invalid. (Though he did have six wings, that part is valid. The rest, nope.

@MrCheckersmcgee Have you ever heard of the SNES? The Super Nintendo Entertainment System? In the days when the SNES was widely played, Final Fantasy 6 was ported to the American public as Final Fantasy 3. Yes, I have a SNES. Yes, I have FF6 (FF3 by the cartridge) for it. Final Fantasy 3, the one you referenced, was never released out of Japan at that time. TL;DR: FF6 was called FF3 because the real FF3 was not released out of Japan.

@TheNitroman211 I always argue in sephy's favor since he's unpopular right now. so as a counterpoint: 1. true, but the world was still there. and meteor was falling regardless, so the ffvii world barely survived. 2. but he WAS killed => god fail 3. just, no...he probably got pwned because the ffvii party kicked so much ass lol, that may ruffle some feathers depending on how much you care...

I looked all the way back in the comment thread for a comment like this just to make this point: One does not simply call Dancing Mad "shit," one only calls it "the shit."

I think you are wrong there.Kefka poisned an entire castle, became the God of MAGIC.He is so far,the only FInal Fantasy villain who actually has had full succes in his plans. What did Sephiroth do?Infect people with STigma.Wanted to kill countess people and make the planet his vessel.Did he succed? No.kefka is the most powerful villain.Sephiroth is the most badass. But badassery means nothing if you cant live up to it.So Kefka, unfortunately, and amusingly, wins.

I do, at least in the case of some of the remixes. But that's just me. I also liked Otherworld, from FFX, most of the other music in FFVII, & the special themes in FFT, such as Helldance. The Black Mages' remix of Dancing Mad is also very good, but it's not one of my favorites, mostly because it doesn't feel like it has a real "end" to me. Also, I know Kefka had more than 2 wings. 4 or 6. Then they made Seph 1-up him with 7. Lucifer was said to have 12. I'm still waiting for that villain.

@TJD005 I like your reasoning for these matters, but it's rather unneccesary: a lot of villains try to destroy the world in any way or other and fail... Kefka actually DESTROYS it. Period. xd

Safer Sephiroth had 7 wings, counting the one that was his arm. Kefka had, what appeared to be 6 wings, but I never really understood if that were 6 wings, or two BIG wings of angel, and other two minor wings of devil, but the thing is, the number of wings you have, don't determine the power you hold. (Only in religion, but Kefka's an Agnostic.)

I actually suspect it's just like maybe 4 or 5 people with multiple profiles to look like more people arguing 24/7 because they literally have nothing better to do than debate the merits of characters from a pair of games that were made almost 20 years ago.

@TheLithp It was a long time ago, but you were definitely referring to the Black Mages' version. So you're right, downgrading a song for the fact that it fades out is a pretty dumb response. :-P

My bad. It really is hard to tell sometimes. But that's sort of what I was getting at: Otherworld & OWA CAN fit into other genres. I'm not entirely sure what Otherworld is (it's been called "screamo" before, & I'm not entirely sure I can disprove that), but OWA definately qualifies as orchestra. AOWA qualifies as rock, & is certainly unique. (WTF?! LATIN?!) Regardless, I downloaded all. Black Mages version for DM. I guess there's always been a sort of fan rivalry between VI & VII. I mean--

I have to admit, although I don't understand how becoming a god fit into the story (have yet to play FFVI), I do like the way they did it all "Divine Comedy" style, even though that feels a little random. In other words, Piggy, I'm not sure if the symbolism extends deeper than the final battle, but I most certainly did find it awesome. Actually, to expand on what Mitja is asking: Didn't Kefka have 6 pairs of wings, like a Seraphim?
