Gambler with a single type of buffed magic materia is very useful for solo sections of the game, particularly the Dyne fight as Barrett can't easily get ATB fast enough to pop off back to back firagas but with gambling you basically have a good chance of using fira or better if that's the only magic you have equipped. You can use Reraise and ATB boost with gamble as those skills won't proc unless ATB boost is on cooldown. it takes a bit of practice to remember to always use your ATB boost so you don't accidentally gamble that skill, but it's worth it and it's also a solid way to reliably cast prayer for 1 ATB bar. so if you want to do a team of purple materia fighters you can add prayer and gamble and make healing really cheap

For Aerith, I equip 'First Strike' and the 'Chocoking Cape' for 2 full ATB charges at the start of the battle. I then pair 'elemental' with a maxed elemental spell to hit everything at once with a tier 3 attack at the start of the battle. It's great 😂

@@luuna7626 Not exactly. Say you have Aerith with Synergy + Comet in your party. As long as she’s not the character you’re controlling, she will cast Comet (almost) every time your controlled character uses an ATB skill that hits an enemy. Spells from Enemy Skill materia included as long as they do damage. Healing/support spells will not activate it though.

The igneous saber is too broken, it’s easily cloud best weapon. Combine it with sonic boom and you melt enemies. I use darkside, plasma and braver and doing 4000 plus damage per braver hit. You can put plasma with hp absorption to negate darkside health affect.

@@sanguinetales i mentioned that and also disorder with the build I mention is a cheat code. You have infinite atb and can spam 2000 damage. Igneous saber can keep sonic boom on for a long time too and haste.

Rune Blade's Sonic Boom + Spell Blade is easily stronger. Giant ATB charges for two characters and Plasma Discharge gets stronger too because of high Magic Attack. With a Deshell on the enemy, I easily do 6k to 9999 damage on enemies without spending ATB. It requires either Yuffie or Aerith in the party tho. Power Cleave on Igneous and Deprotect is strong too but not as potent and has less reach but still very powerful too.

For self destruct just use anti death accessories and if not wrong it'll deal about 3/4 max HP

Synergy+Petrify. When you use ATB, the character with Synergy+Petrify will use Quake and inflict the enemies with petrify. Do enough damage and watch them turn to stone!

It procs when you use Abilities, not spells. So if I use Braver with Cloud, and Cait Sith has synergy with Petrification linked, they'll use Quake

I defeated him about four times before I discovered that's not how Enemy Skills work in this game. If you were lucky enough to acquire Beta early on, you were unstoppable!

For Self-Destruct there is a much better way to use it. Equip a weapon with the Reprieve weapon skill which leaves you at 1 hp when you die, but it needs to be used with either a safety bit accessory or warding materia paired with subversion to protect yourself against instant death. This way you can survive it.

Just a heads-up to add to the Enemy Skill + HP Absorb -- when Plasma Discharge procs, it heals you for every single enemy it hits. So if you wade into a group of enemies and let that burst go off, that "small amount of healing" stacks wildly.

I put the compass on Yuffie and when i got the 3 atb bars it still would not let me use storms fury. I was pretty irritated by this and didnt really understand why not, but now that im seeing you recommend it im wondering what was going on with my game that made me unable to do it??

The last combo with Yuffie doesn’t work. That was immediately my thought too, but when I tried to use the ability it was blacked out. You have to use refocus, so unless the changed it with the recent patch it will t work. Also, don’t forget you can use multiple slots for same elemental materia with different support. Petrify with Synergy as well as a second Petrify with MP absorb is absolutely awesome for mobs that turn to stone easily. So while your lead uses weapon abilities, petrify is used automatically with whoever has it equipped, and you get MP back at the same time. Aerith is a great character to have it on seeing as how her Mag Atk is insane. And like I said you can do it with other elements so if you have the upgraded versions of the spells you get free casting

when you assess an enemy, you can toggle to show its move set. beside each move you will see a staff or sword icons, which indicates magical or physical respectively. another obvious reason is: if there's a flashy magic involved, it is probably a magic attack.

@@j.faulkner2593 Honestly they limited the Materia way too much, they also could have had Chadley act as a Mini-Huge Materia and have him able to fuse multiple Mastered Materia Together. Hell there are even ways to make it not so unbalanced, All Magic added to a weapon? only one is usable at a time with a switching mechanic like Yuffies Ninjutsu. Basically if I want to take the admittedly long, LONG amount of time needed to set up an untouchable element/status effect party, then make it long and tedius by all means... but let me at least bloody do it

​@MasterLittica yeah I was thinking about improvements last night. I'm happy in many ways how they've improved the system over the OG and remake in some ways. I like your idea. I was also thinking about flexibility you could add in part 3 if we were allowed to link 3 materia under conditions. Pair that idea with the development of complementary or supplementary materia that work well to modify or enhance your base linked pairing. They could go about how to earn or craft those materia in different ways but I think it could be a great addition. Just need to be careful it's not busted out the gate. End game or ng+ yeah go wild. I'd like to see more innovation in the system.

About enemy skill, mind blast is NUTS. Late game, i had cloud setup with chocokings cape and first strike materia, so i always had 2 atb off the start. You can literally walk into a group of enemies, and mind blast to instantly stagger every enemy, or at least do 75% . It does as much stagger as Cloud's lvl 2 ascension limit break, except its an aoe blast that you can do right off the start of battle. The devs knew it was OP, so they only let you use it once per battle. The hard part is doing the VR battle to get it. You face a mindflayer and two weaker enemies, but you HAVE to kill the mindflayer first or else you fail the challenge. Probably took me 5 or 6 retrys, putting the weaker enemies to sleep, and constantly shuffing between characters so they didnt wake them up. But the reward is worth it. Honorable mention to rancid breath. Only costs 1atb and inflicts a bunch of random status ailments on enemies in an aoe, and the damage is really good too. Its like 5 spells worth of status ailments, for zero MP one atb cost. And its an aoe, so youre potentially getting 10-15 atb bars of value from a single atb if you hit a few enemies.

Hi. I have a question about dual element materias and elemental materia. Let us suppose you have fire and ice materia linked to a elemental materia on you weapon slot. Then, you fight an enemy that is weak to fire, but has resistance or absorbs ice. What would happen then? I mean, which applies then? The enemy weakness or the enemy resistance.

@@candyhandsjf7288 I tested it i didn't assume it. Tried it on the orcs with fire and blizzard and you will see its switches after a set period of time. They're weak to fire so If it works like you say it shoudn't switch and you can easily see when it does since fire is the only really obvious buff you can keep track of. Also tested it on the blue blob enemy from phoenix that one is resistent to blizzard but even than it still switched to blizzard. I can add a vid if you dont believe me.

Morph is just super hard to use because your party members will kill things that low on health. The only real effective strat i've found is to equip the toad ring on 2 party members to nerf their damage output. Morphing enemies just isn't all that useful unlike in the OG game.

That compass is trash, the 3 ATB gauge will be lost before you can even fill all 3 of it. Just use Refocus with Red XIII.

Yeah just read the ranks for the materia. Rank 1 is 50% dmg reduction for the element Rank 2 is 100% dmg reduction Rank 3 (max) is absorbing the dmg

Anyone else thinks it's stupid that they limit how many you get of certain materias in the game? Like Magnify, the Fire and Ice, the Lightning and Wind seeing you can only get 1 of those materias each. I understand limiting some but just 1 only I believe is stupid. It's the same thing that pissed me off in Remake limiting the amount of certain materias to just 1
