Final Fantasy VII Rebirth continues the overarching narrative first introduced in Final Fantasy VII Remake (2020) and reimagines the plot, world, and cast of the original Final Fantasy VII (1997). The game takes place on a world known as "The Planet" and centers on the journey of the main characters as they seek to end the tyranny of the Shinra Electric Power Company, which controls the megalopolis of Midgar by weaponizing the Lifestream, and defeat Sephiroth , a legendary veteran of Shinra's elite SOLDIER unit who was presumed dead and now seeks to summon Meteor to wound the Planet, enabling him to attain godhood by uniting with the Lifestream. Rebirth will span the events from leaving Midgar to the Forgotten Capital, though the order in which locations are explored is changed from the original game. For example, the visit to Wutai will be saved for the third installment.
The central protagonist and leader of the game's main party is Cloud Strife, a former member of SOLDIER's 1st Class who now works as a mercenary assisting the eco-terrorist group AVALANCHE, which opposes Shinra's exploitation of the Planet and its resources. Accompanying him are two members of the group: Barret Wallace (John Eric Bentley), its brazen but empathetic leader, and Tifa Lockhart , Cloud's childhood friend and a bartender at the 7th Heaven bar in Midgar, who is a compassionate but shy practicing martial artist. They are joined by Aerith Gainsborough (Briana White), a flower merchant who previously lived in Midgar's Sector 5 Slums and is the sole survivor of the ancient Cetra; Red XIII, an intelligent quadruped from Cosmo Canyon who Shinra held captive as a lab rat; and Yuffie Kisaragi, an expert Materia thief and ninja from Wutai who resolves to join the team to realize Shinra's downfall after a failed attempt to extract the "Ultimate Materia" from their headquarters caused her to lose her partner Sonon Kusakabe.Supporting characters will play roles throughout the story, including Zack Fair, Aerith's boyfriend and the previous wielder of the Buster Sword, who helped him and Cloud escape after Shinra experimented on them using the cells of the extraterrestrial life-form JENOVA; Cait Sith , a robotic cat remotely controlled by Shinra's Head of Urban Development Reeve Tuesti ; Vincent Valentine , a former member of the Turks who Professor Hojo experimented on; and Cid Highwind , a grizzled pilot from Rocket Town and an ex-Shinra rocket scientist who is dedicated to achieving spaceflight. Also appearing are Bugenhagen , the elder of Cosmo Canyon; AVALANCHE member Biggs (Gideon Emery), who, unlike in the original game, survives the Sector 7 Plate's collapse in Midgar and now seeks revenge against Shinra for the deaths of his friends; and Elena (a new recruit of the Turks who seeks to apprehend Cloud and his allies.

Rufus deal made perfect sense to anyone with common sense level thinking. It boils down to “This person/competitor is in both of our way so we will ignore each other until they’re dealt with”. Hence why Rufus didn’t say anything about what may happen AFTER Sephiroth is dead.

@@ajwatcher and under Rufus, Hojo continues his normal operations like nothing's changed. Rufus literally wants Sephiroth dead yet continues to fund the motherfucker that created him and his clones. Like Barrett says later on it doesn't matter who's running Shinra, they're still a ruthless company that sacrifices lives for their own benefit.

@@Kingdom850if it was a way to stopping trouble and make a deal then why shouldn’t they take it? they needed every little thing they could get, plus they were about to take the deal but yuffie ruined it. we wouldn’t have had to fight any of the turks in the game if they weren’t interrupted. and you do realize that not every single person in shinra is exactly the same and wants the same things…right…? i mean hell, rufus literally funded avalanche so that his dad would struggle 😭 reeve hates shinra and has went behind their back. zack didn’t want to hurt anybody, he was a chill guy, same with cloud and kunsel, etc. you need to understand that every character in shinra is different, so we can’t hate everyone as a whole in there.

Bro funded avalanche because he just wanted somebody to take the throne from his dad, he doesn't give a shit about avalanche's goals. And again if he was soooo much better why does he let Hojo continue to run free with his human experiments? It was always Rufus' plan to watch the party and have them lead him to the temple of the ancients. That's the reason behind the deal he was going to make. Like come on, one of the conditions is that they can't return to Midgar, what the fuck? Aerith's Mom is still there waiting for her. Marlene is waiting for Barret. Rufus does not see eye to eye with Cloud, and again, Barret mentions later that no good comes from a deal made with Shinra. He has first hand experience with that, why are you people still thinking Rufus is some saint and Yuffie actually screwed over the party?

In my opinion, probably one of my favorite scenes in the game, seeing Rufus talking calmly to Cloud and others is just icing on the cake…tells you he wanted Cloud to join him to take down Sephiroth while also have no business with Aerith.

At first, you get angry over Yuffie making things worse. Then you realise Cloud and the others have literally no reason to trust that Rufus will keep his end of the deal. They don't know him and Shinra isn't going to stop trying to control the planet when Sephiroth is dead

He knows Wutai is breathing down his neck, he doesn’t completely trust the directors like Heidegger and Scarlet to follow his orders or vision for Shinra, Midgar is in chaos because of the Reactor bombings, the plate fall and the general unrest that his father caused. And he still wants to find the Promised Land All that and also Sephiroth is back. He knows Cloud is after him as well so why not just let him go to pursue him? Don’t see Shinra having any brighter ideas for finding him…and even if he were to find Sephiroth he still has to kill him

I joked in Remake that if Cloud was in the scene with Heidegger where everyone says their status, Heidegger would have revealed that Cloud ain't no Soldier First Class lol (He's the director of Soldier), unless the Whispers intervened lol. They definitely intervened with Hojo lol. That's like me lying that I was in the main cast of Dune lol. You know how easy it is to find out lol then.

Rufus didn't make Sephiroth what he is - his dad and Hojo did. Rufus was essentially exiled until Sephiroth assassinated the old man.
