One of the best final fantasy 8 final boss runs I've seen in a very long time. you play it the way it's supposed to be played, by going in blind, not knowing (or at least remembering) what to expect. It's so boring when the characters are all max-leveld and knows the perfect strategy to beat her super easily. This is a lot more enjoyable watch.

The problem with the draw system is that it doesnt say anywhere that you can get magic better with using the GF tools. Like many first timers stay on battles drawing magic from monsters which is complete waste of time for someone knows how the mechanics work. Like these days if I play this game I dont even get the draw ability on other than one char on bosses to draw the GFs out. Its actually one of the best and creative ability systems in the series, it just needs to much knowledge for first timers.

This game is seriously legendary. I know everyone always boasts that FFVII was the best- but that's a load of shit. FFVII was a decent game, but it was far from the best. The only reason 7 got as much praise as it did is because, for many, it was their first Final Fantasy due to the time, and platform, of it's release. It was kind of like the first game of the series that wasn't a little 2-D character walking around a grid. It was repetitive as all hell, the story was decent but not as great as it's made out to be, and the characters were... okay. Still, it was the first step in the evolution of the series. FF8 was next level shit. Everything about that game was amazing. It is probably the best Final Fantasy ever made, not 7.

RyannBaws most FF fans disagree with you. The junction and magic system was garbage. whoever idea it was to make the characters only need 1000exp to level up needs to be punished, made the game way too easy, any experienced FF player would be max level by the time they finished the Esthar/space story and just got the Ragnarok. the game did do one thing right though, the characters were better and actually had a sory of growth. you feel connected to them, but still...a lot of the game was garbage.

Marcus Skeet I agree that it wasn't the most challenging of the series. I actually posted somewhere else(I can't remember where) about both FF8 and FF10 being a tad on the easy side, with somewhat broken gameplay mechanics; which is why they got hate from a lot of the more hardcore portion of Final Fantasy gamers. However, I typically try to write reviews from an unbiased perspective, and therefore generally will only judge a game as a whole, for what it is in it's entirety. That said, games are made up of varying parts, such as what you mentioned, all contributing to the whole. Gameplay plays one of the biggest roles in my judgement, because overall that's what games are mainly about. While FF8 did indeed flop in a few spectrums of it's gameplay, I mainly take into consideration whether or not the gameplay is fun. For me, and for many many others, FF8's gameplay was a BLAST. It was by no means perfect, but for most, having fun is what it's all about. The fact that it was easier than the norm does indeed hurt my overall rating of the gameplay, but it still gets at least close to an 8 in the department. The other things you mentioned such as story, character development, among other things such as graphics(in it's time), art work, music... are all easily solid 9's/10's, which... when contributed to my view of the game as a whole(as I mentioned earlier), puts it up there to at least a solid 9. This is why I consider it to be one of the (if not the) best Final Fantasy's ever made. I could think of just as many if not more flaws in some of the earlier Final Fantasy's and definitely some of the later.

+Willie Wonker This game is good, really. It is just a matter of opinion. The reason why FF8 is the center of such a figth inside the FF fan community is because it is not a bad game not at all ! But he is very particular for a FF. The gameplay is different. The characters are develloped differently. The center of interest of the game. THe way the story is told. If the game was just bad or mediocre, it would be like FF13 or 12, some people like it but they know it is not excellent so they don't get mad when others say it is bad. The fact is, FF8 is as good, as beautiful, and as well made than any other FF. But since the story and the gameplay are so different from the other game, many people have a hard time enjoying it. I am french so it is hard for me to explain, you should try it and see for yourself. The hardest bosses in this game for me was: Sorceress Adel Those monsters on the Ragnarok Ultimecia's Servants for me to get my abilities back Ultimecia's Final Form I yelled Thank You Lord when I defeated every last one of them. The battle with Yunalesca in FFX reminded me of this battle. Only difference was Ultimecia was more challenging than Yunalesca. Classic memories...

I'm not sure if anyone here has ever encountered this but during the final form of Ultimecia, you can trigger an end to the fight where Ultimecia's blood explodes all over the place and even gets on the characters for that slow mo transition. My brother only ever managed to make it happen once and I don't ever see it being talked about in threads or forums or anywhere. We don't know how to trigger it so if anyone can help, it'd be appreciated.

actually this game can throw someone a huge curveball at the end unless you know what to do through the ENTIRE game. most games, final fantasy in particular, leveling up = Get stronger= easier time. however this is opposite for 8, as the enemies level up with you, and at the end of the game, Griever can wipe your whole party with shockwave pulsar at level 99. Denn Green III Yours is a far better explanation. I vaguely recall spamming Aura back in the day for Lionhearts. May have even lucked out on Selphie's The End once or twice on Omega. Regardless, Ultimecia was easily one of the hardest FF final bosses.

Denn Green III it's actually level 100 and with 255 spr defense Shockwave pulses does around 700 damage

The quick/easy way is to go in with Rinoa at 1 HP (if she gets selected by Ultimecia), then you use Rinoa's limit break Invincible Moon and keep repeating it. Any attacks Ultimecia does on you will hit for 0. Squall casts Aura before Rinoa's limit break and just uses Renzokuken throughout the fight.

I think this is the first pc version, because if I can recall correctly the PS version had the "R1" sign in Squall's Limit Break bar. ryokoshii The original PS and pc release can't be HD, can't be Steam with this upload date, only possibility is PSN. Did some digging, says a PSN version was released in December 2009. Didn't say it was HD but pretty sure it's the one (there were no other releases mentioned) Bummer for me too :( I would rather buy a HD hard copy if they released one.

There is a great trick for Selphie slot limit. Eject the game disc and lets any enemy magic/special attacks to be paused as the game waiting for data. Then, insert the game disc again after selecting the magic. Selphie limit break doesn't pause enemy action even battle setting is set to wait except by ejecting game disc. It also works for selecting battle command outside magic or item menu.

I'm sad to say that while this boss was intensely challenging the first time through, once you learn how to use junctions properly and that limit breaks are broken, this became one of the easiest final bosses of all FF games, second only to Yu Yevon I fear.

***** Yu Yevon shouldn't even count because the ONLY way to die to Yu Yevon is if your entire party gets petrified, and the chances of that happening are VERY SLIM because he'd have to confuse a party member and force them to cast Break or attack with a weapon that petrifies.

The MasterGabe Grind? it takes maybe 5 hours TOTAL to hit lvl 100 in this game, and u can do it all on the first disk.....in the garden

I mean, junction 100x Ultima on STR, and 100x Triple on SPD, you get 255 for both. There's no way you can't get 9999 per slash for Lion Heart Also, the DRAW ability is useless in Ultimecia battle and should replace with something else (even ITEM is better)
